Alright, let’s get stuck into what’s brewing for Moliets Plage over the next couple of weeks.

First off, I gotta be straight with you – the water is running very warm right now, sitting at 75°F, which is a solid 6°F above what we’d expect for this time of year. That’s unusual, and it’s a weird feeling paddling out in that kind of bathwater.

Right now, we’re in a flat spell. The first real chance of anything worth paddling for comes Monday morning, July 20th. It’s tiny, just 3ft from the NNW, and the period is a short 6 seconds, so the energy is weak (combined energy 83). The wind is glassy though, so the surface will be clean. It’s a beginner-level wave, but honestly, it’s just surfable, nothing to get excited about.

The surf really struggles this week. The mornings are often clean, but the swell is tiny and weak. The afternoons get chopped up by a cross-shore breeze. Tuesday morning the 21st looks clean with a light cross-offshore wind, but the swell is still small at 3ft. It’s not great, but it’s the best of a bad bunch for the early part of the week.

There’s a noticeable gap in quality from the 22nd through the 26th. The swell drops, the wind gets messy, and there’s just nothing to recommend. It’s a proper lull.

Then things start to get interesting. On Monday morning, July 27th, the swell pushes up to 5ft from the WNW (6-second period, moderate energy at 189), but the wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be choppy. Not the one.

The real standout, and the one I’m banking on, is Wednesday morning, July 29th. This is the best on offer. We’ve got a solid 7ft groundswell from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds, pushing a lot of energy (combined energy 1010). The wind is light easterly and glassy – that’s the magic combo. The waves will be clean, powerful, and well-shaped. This is for experienced surfers; 7ft is too big for beginners. The swell direction is W, which matches the optimum for this spot, so expect it to set up nicely.

Thursday morning, July 30th, is also worth a look. It’s a bit smaller at 5ft from the NW, but with a light offshore wind from the ESE, it’ll be clean and fun for the more confident crew.

After that, it fades out again into the first week of August. The mornings of August 3rd look glassy, but the swell is back to 3ft and weak, so it’s a no-go.

The long-range stuff late in the first week of August has some energy, but the wind is always onshore or cross-onshore, so it’s messy. Honestly, the 29th is your day. Circle it.
