Table - best surf conditions forecast for Long Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the Long Beach stretch.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – it's a tough stretch ahead. Looking at the whole 16-day window, there's really nothing to get excited about. The swell's coming in from the ENE, sometimes straight E, but that wind is a killer. It's cross-on, day after day, blowing 16 to 23 mph, keeping the surface all lumpy and choppy. It’s a real shame because the water temp is sitting at a nice 82°, which is about average for this time of year, but you won't be enjoying it.
We kick off on Friday the 10th of July with a 7 ft ENE swell, but the cross-onshore wind is cranking at 23 mph, and the wave comment is "poor surf conditions." That sums it up. That trend just keeps going. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are the same story – swell around 6 ft to 7 ft, but the wind is relentless. The combined wave energy is moderate (around 629 to 373), but it’s all wasted energy with that onshore wind messing everything up.
The whole first week is a write-off. We go through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, all with cross-on winds and "poor surf conditions." The swell does drop a little, down to 5 ft by Wednesday afternoon, but it doesn't matter with the wind howling. The period is short, only 7 to 8 seconds, so it's just wind-slop, not a proper groundswell.
Into the second week, it's more of the same. From the 16th right through to the 25th, we're looking at cross-on winds from the E and ENE, with swell heights bouncing between 4 ft and 7 ft. The energy picks up a bit on the 25th of July, hitting 454 in the morning and 485 in the afternoon, but again, the wind is still cross-on from the E at 16 mph. The period is still short, 7 to 8 seconds. This is a beach break, and with that much chop, it's honestly looking more interesting for the kite surfers than for us paddle guys.
So, bottom line: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. It's a blank run, and for this area, that's just how it goes sometimes. Don't hold your breath, but keep an eye on the forecasts – things can change.
Rusty.
