Leivada (Tinos) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for the Tinos area.

First off, this stretch is for Leivada (Tinos). The water temp is sittin’ around 76°, which is about what you’d expect for this time of year, nothin’ unusual there. Now, I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day run is a tough one. There’s waves on the table pretty much the whole time, but the wind is the bad guy here, and it ruins pretty much everything.

The first real surf we see starts on Wednesday the 29th of July. It’s small, only 3ft from the north with a short 4-second period, so it’s weak energy (40). But the real killer is the wind strong from the north at 22 to 28 mph, blowing right onto the break. That’s just messy. We go straight into Thursday the 30th with solid swell – up to 10ft on the morning, even 12ft by the afternoon. That’s proper size, too big for beginners. Here’s the thing though: the wind cranks up to 34-37 mph from the north, blowing straight onshore. It’s a near-gale. The combined energy hits 1620, so there’s heaps of power, but it’s blown-out chaos. This isn’t a surf spot right now; it’s more of a kite-surfing situation if anything.

Friday the 31st through to Monday the 3rd of August keeps a similar story. Swell sits between 5ft and 10ft, all north-northwest, but the wind is relentless – strong breeze to near-gale, mostly onshore or cross-onshore. The quality is poor, every single time. There’s a small breather on Tuesday the 4th of August when the swell drops to 2ft and the wind backs off to a gentle breeze, but that’s cross-onshore and choppy. Not worth paddling out for.

From the 5th of August onward, the swell fades away to almost nothing – we’re talking 1.0ft to 2ft with periods of 3-5 seconds. The energy is pathetic (single digits or low double digits). The wind switches to cross-onshore, still ruining any chance of a clean wave. This flat spell runs all the way through the 7th of August.

Then we get a pulse again on the 8th of August into the 10th. Saturday the 8th has 7ft from the north, period 7 seconds, moderate energy (402). But again, the north wind is strong, cross-onshore, and messy. By the 9th of August, swell hits 10ft again with 1060 energy, but the wind is a near-gale. Sunday the 9th is another blown-out, expert-only mess. Monday the 10th still has size – 8ft – but the wind stays cross-onshore. The 11th of August starts to drop off, and by the 12th and 13th we’re back to tiny, weak waves and strong, onshore wind.

Bottom line: There’s one spot looked at here – Leivada – and it’s inconsistent even on a good day. With this persistent, strong onshore northing wind, there is no standout session. The waves are either too windy, too big, too small, or a combination of all the wrong things. If you’re itching for a paddle, the *least* bad window might be Tuesday the 4th morning with that 2ft and lighter wind, but it’s cross-onshore and lumpy. Honestly? This is a blank run. It happens here. The coast is exposed to the north, and when the Meltemi gets going, it’s game over for clean waves.
