Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lakey Pipe over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Lakey Pipe over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of groundswell on the way, and the water is sitting at a warm 82°F, which is about average for the time of year. The first proper call is Thursday afternoon, July 9th, with a solid 7ft SSW groundswell rolling in at a long 15 seconds. The wind is a gentle cross-off from the SSE, keeping things clean. The wave energy is pumping strong (1902), and this is one for the experienced crew – it’s got some power. This is a standout.
Friday the 10th backs it up with a 5ft SSW swell in the morning, but the wind picks up a bit, and the tide might be a little questionable. It’s still surfable, but not as clean. The afternoon bumps back up to 6ft from the SW with a 16-second period, and the energy is still very high (1878). The wind stays light and cross-off, so it’s worth a look.
Saturday the 11th is more of the same: consistent 5ft SW swell with a 14-15 second period, light cross-off breezes, and clean conditions. The energy is solid (1183-1112). This is a good, solid day for intermediates.
Sunday the 12th sees the swell drop to 3-4ft, and the energy follows suit (487-397). It’s clean but small. Monday the 13th is even smaller in the morning at 3ft, but the afternoon shows a spike in period to 20 seconds from the SSW, with energy jumping to 537. That’s a very long-period pulse, but it’s only 2ft, so it’ll be a bit of a wait for sets.
The real action kicks back in on Tuesday the 14th. The morning brings 5ft SSW with an 18-second period and energy of 1817. The afternoon is the pick of the day – 6ft SSW, 18 seconds, and a massive energy of 2544. The wind is light and cross-off. This is another standout for the experienced surfer.
Wednesday the 15th keeps the size up with 7ft SSW in the morning and 6ft in the afternoon, but the wind is a bit stronger (20 km/h), so it’s a touch less clean. Still plenty of power (2252-1827). Thursday the 16th settles back to a cleaner 5ft SW swell with a 15-second period and light winds. Good, consistent waves.
The second week stays active but drops off a bit. Friday the 17th is 5ft SW, clean but not as punchy. Saturday the 18th is similar at 5ft SW. Sunday the 19th shows a pulse: 6ft SW with a 16-second period in the morning, energy 1691, and the afternoon stays solid at 6ft with 15 seconds. The wind is light, so it’s clean and powerful.
From Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd, the swell fades to 4-5ft, with period dropping to 13-14 seconds. The energy is moderate (500-981). It’s still surfable, just not as exciting.
Then we get a late burst. Thursday the 23rd shows 4ft SSW with a 17-second period, energy 1167. Friday the 24th is the best of the late run: 5-6ft SW/SSW, 16-second period, light winds, and energy around 1300-1390. Clean, powerful, and lined up – a great way to close out the outlook.
Keep in mind, Lakey Pipe is a reef break that handles a SW swell best, and it’s consistent. The crowds are often there, so expect company on the best days. The bigger swells (over 5ft) are for the experienced crew, and with those long periods (15-18 seconds), the waves will have plenty of push and shape, but the sets will be a bit more spaced out. For the best of the best, point your board at Thursday afternoon July 9th, Tuesday afternoon July 14th, and Friday July 24th.
Rusty.
