Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up.
The window kicks off straight away with a consistent run of surf at Lakey Pipe. This is a reef break, exposed to the SW, and it’s picking up a long-period groundswell that sticks around for days. The water temp is sitting at 82°, which is about average for this time of year – nothing wild, just your typical tropical warmth.
Tuesday 7th July is a slow burner. The morning session is clean but the swell is a bit raw and small at 5 ft from the SW, with a long 16s period. The combined energy is moderate (994). The cross-off wind keeps it tidy, but it’s not the standout. The afternoon lifts a little, with the same 5 ft SW swell, but the energy picks up slightly (1009), and the gentle breeze keeps it clean. This is for experienced surfers, as the long-period groundswell will make it a bit tricky on a reef.
Wednesday 8th July is where it starts to get interesting. The morning brings 6 ft of SW swell at 15s, with the energy jumping to 1602 – moderate, but pushing strong. The afternoon gets even better: 7 ft from the SW, still 15s, and energy at 1923. The cross-off wind is light and clean. This is excellent for those who know what they’re doing.
Thursday 9th July is the pick of the first week. The morning has 7 ft SW swell at 15s with energy at 2139, and the wind is a gentle cross-off. The afternoon gets a slight shift to SSW, still 7 ft at 15s, with a light breeze and energy at 1807. Both sessions are clean and powerful. This is big but not monstrous – for the experienced crew, this is the one to circle.
Friday 10th July holds well. The morning has 5 ft from the SSW (15s, energy 1686) and the afternoon bumps to 6 ft from the SW (16s, energy 1764). Winds are light and cross-off all day. Still excellent, but not quite as tall as Thursday.
Saturday 11th July and Sunday 12th July see the swell ease. Saturday has 5 ft (14-15s, energy around 1120-1176) and Sunday drops to 3-4 ft (13-14s, energy in the 400-500 range). Still clean, but the punch is gone. Good for a longboard or a cruise.
Monday 13th July is small, around 4-4 ft, with 13s period. Light winds, but the energy is low (682-758). A fun option if you’re desperate, but nothing special.
Now, Tuesday 14th July – this is a standout. The morning shows 6 ft from the SSW but with a very long 20s period and energy at 2534. That’s a serious groundswell. Winds are moderate cross-off, so it’ll be clean but a bit of a paddle. The afternoon drops to 5 ft at 18s (energy 1803) – still excellent for the experienced surfer. This is a big, clean, long-period swell that will draw lines through the reef.
The pattern continues strong through the middle of the month. Wednesday 15th July has 6-7 ft SSW swell (16s, energy 1857-2046). Thursday 16th July backs off a touch to 5 ft but keeps 15s period and clean conditions.
Friday 17th July to Saturday 18th July holds steady at 5-6 ft from the SW (14-15s, energy 1025-1361). All clean, all excellent for experienced surfers.
Then Sunday 19th July is a big day. Morning brings 7 ft from the SW at 16s with energy at 2287 – that’s strong. The afternoon eases to 7 ft from SSW (16s, energy 2007) with light winds and a few rain showers. Still clean. This is another standout for the experienced.
Monday 20th July stays good: 6 ft SW swell (14-15s, energy 1554-1661) with light winds.
Tuesday 21st July and Wednesday 22nd July see the swell fade. Tuesday has 4-5 ft (13s, energy 553-781), and Wednesday drops to 3-3 ft (13-15s, energy 399-598). Still clean, but it’s tailing off to a small, gentle finish.
Overall, the best on offer is Thursday 9th July afternoon and Tuesday 14th July morning – the former for its size and consistency, the latter for its very long period and energy. Crowds are likely at Lakey Pipe, as it’s a known spot and it’s been consistently good. Do not expect a beginner-friendly wave here – anything over 5 ft on a reef with long period is for the experienced only.
No speculation on buoys, no links, no past. Just the facts as they lie.
