Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kewalos over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here.
This is a tough one for Kewalos. Solid reef, but the wind and swell direction just aren’t cooperating for a long time. We got a real frustrating stretch ahead.
Water temp is a normal 80° for the season. The real problem is a relentless ENE wind that's blowing across the face almost every day. The waves look ridable in size sometimes, but that cross-off breeze makes everything messy and hard to ride.
The most consistent energy comes early, Sunday the 12th through Monday the 13th, with swell around 5 ft to 6 ft from the ENE. The combined swell energy is moderate, around 600 to 800, but with that wind and a short period of 8 seconds, it’s gonna be lumpy and ugly. Not worth a paddle.
Things drop right off after that. We get a couple of days on the 14th and 15th with a small SSW groundswell showing a long 14-second period, but it's only 2 ft. The combined energy barely breaks 260. The wind is still trashing it, so it's flat and messy.
Then it's a wasteland of short-period ENE windswell (7 to 8 seconds) with that same dirty cross-off breeze for days. Heights pop up to 6 ft on the 19th, but the energy is low and the quality is poor. Honestly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of this.
The only glimmer, and it’s a long-range one, comes right at the end. On Monday, the 27th of July, we finally see a big jump in combined swell energy to over 1000. The swell shifts to a better E direction with a 15-second period, getting up to 4 ft to 4 ft. The wind eases to an ENE 20 km/h, which is still cross-off but might be just rideable. This is the only real standout in the whole 16 days, and it’s still a questionable call. It’s clean, but it’s a long way off, so don’t get your hopes up.
Overall, this is a blank run for Kewalos. A long, frustrating one. That wind just won't let us be.
Rusty.
