Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kewalos over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for Kewalos. The wind is blowing from the ENE, which is cross-off, but it's strong – 18 to 25 mph – and it's just not letting up. That's churning up the water and making things messy. For a reef break, that's a tough combo. The swell is coming from the same direction as the wind, which is never a good sign for quality.
We kick off with nothing to report on Wednesday the 8th of July. The surf is poor, and the energy is weak (636). That's a no-go.
Thursday the 9th, Friday the 10th, and Saturday the 11th are all stuck in the same rut. The swell is around 5 ft to 7 ft, with a short period of 7 seconds. The wind is a fresh to strong breeze, and the scores are a flat zero. The water is a warm 79.5°, which is about average for the time of year, but you won't be enjoying it.
Sunday the 12th sees a spike in energy (1032) with a 7.9 ft swell, but it's still a short period and the wind is howling. It's a marginal call at best.
The whole first week is a write-off. We're looking at a solid 13 days of poor to marginal conditions.
There's a glimmer of hope around Tuesday the 21st of July. We see the swell direction switch to the east, and the period jumps to a very long 18 seconds. That's a proper groundswell. The swell size is small, 2.3 ft, but the energy is moderate (674). The wind is still a moderate breeze from the ENE, which is cross-off, but it's a bit lighter. This is a long-range standout, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it's the best we've got.
Wednesday the 22nd of July keeps that long period (15 seconds) and a similar swell size (3.6 ft to 4 ft). The energy is strong (1072). Again, the wind is the problem, but if it drops, those long-period waves could be something special at this reef. For a reef break, that very long period is a good thing, as it will wrap in nicely.
After that, it looks like it fades out again. The standout is the window around the 21st and 22nd of July. It's promising, but it's a long way off. Hang in there.
