The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for any real waves. We've got a long stretch of small, weak, and choppy surf ahead, so don't get your hopes up for any heroics.
For the next week and a half, the surf at Haambatia (Herzliya) is just not happening. Swell heights are stuck below 3 ft, and the periods are short, mostly in the 6-7 second range. That’s just windslop, not surf. The energy is weak, with combined swell energy values in the teens and twenties for most of that time. It’s the kind of stuff that's only good for a splash around, not for getting a proper wave. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, which will chop up what little is there anyway. Water temp is running a touch warmer than normal at 85°, which is a bit of a bonus if you do go in for a swim, but the surf itself is a bust.
Things tick up ever so slightly around Sunday the 16th, but it’s still pretty sad. We see the swell nudge up to 3 ft with period of 8 seconds, and the energy starts to climb into the 70s and 80s. But it’s still coupled with onshore winds, so it’s going to be a messy, bumpy closeout. That’s really more for the kite crew than for paddle surfers.
The best we can manage in this whole 16-day run is around Monday the 17th and Sunday the 23rd. On the 17th, we’ve got a 3 ft swell from the WNW. The energy is up to 99 but, again, the period is short and the wind is onshore. It’ll be a junky, sectiony mess. The 23rd is similar, with a 3 ft WNW swell and a bit more energy, but the onshore winds will still be ruining it. None of these are worth getting excited about.
Honestly, this is a blank run. The break is inconsistent at the best of times, and this forecast is a write-off. It's a typical summer lull for this area. We just have to wait for the forecasts to change, because they can. Until then, don't bother waxing up. Keep the board in the car, but don’t get your hopes up.
