The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I'm staring at the charts for the Haambatia (Herzliya) stretch, and mates, it's a bit of a tough run. The water's sitting at a balmy 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't need a wetsuit.
Righto, the outlook for the next 16 days is a long, slow grind. We've got a solid gap of poor surf conditions right through until the 10th of August. That's over a week of small, weak, and messy waves. The swell is tiny, barely reaching 2 ft, with periods around 4 to 7 seconds, meaning it's all wind chop. The wind is mostly cross-onshore from the NW or WNW, keeping things choppy and uninviting. There's a couple of glassy mornings on the 10th and 11th, but the swell is so small – 2 ft and 1 ft – it's barely worth a paddle.
The first real sign of life shows up on the morning of the 14th of August. The swell picks up a notch to 4 ft from the WNW, with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 128 (moderate). The wind is a light cross-shore from the SSW, which is a decent wind state. Still, the forecast calls it poor surf, so it's more of a glimmer.
Things start to look a bit more interesting on the 15th of August. The swell builds to 5 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 330 (strong). There's some clouds around, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the SW. This is the biggest swell of the window, but with that 5 ft height and a period of 8 seconds, it's not a clean groundswell, and the wind is on it. It's still rated as poor surf, so it's a watch-and-see situation.
The morning of the 16th of August is nearly the same story, with a 5 ft WNW swell, 8-second period, and 238 combined energy (moderate). The wind is a light cross-shore from the SW, which is as good as it gets in this window. The forecast calls it "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions," scoring a 1 out of 10. That's the best we get, but it's still a far cry from good.
So, the honest truth is this: there's no standout session in the next 16 days. The area is inconsistent at the best of times, and this run is a blank one. The best chance for a surf might be a dawn patrol on the 16th, with a light cross-shore and a 5 ft WNW swell, but you'd be chasing crumbly, low-energy lines. If you're desperate for a paddle, that's your window. Otherwise, wait for the next swell.
Rusty.
