The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for us over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are a real struggle. We’ve got a long dry spell of poor conditions before anything even gets close to being worth a paddle. The first real chance of a session doesn't come until Sunday the 26th of July, and even then it’s not going to get the heart racing.
The water is sitting at a warm 84°F and running about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a thick suit.
The standout, and really the only break worth talking about, is Haambatia (Herzliya). It’s an inconsistent beginner spot, and it’s exposed to the swell, but the optimum direction is from the west. The best morning we get is on Sunday the 26th of July. The swell is a tiny 3ft out of the WNW, with a period of just 7 seconds – that’s short period, windswell, so it won’t have much push. But the wind is glassy, a light westerly of 3 mph, which is a major positive. It’ll be clean, even if the waves are small and weak. The combined energy is only 96, so it’s weak, but it’s the only time the wind plays nice. Expect crowds here, as it’s often busy.
The next morning, Monday the 27th of July, is marginal. The swell is 3ft from the WNW, period 8 seconds, with a light cross-onshore from the NNW at 3 mph. The energy is a bit better at 130, but it’s a light cross-onshore, so it won’t be as clean as Sunday. It’s a maybe, but not a standout.
After that, it’s back to small, choppy, and onshore junk for the rest of the forecast. Tuesday the 28th onwards sees the swell drop back under 3ft, winds pick up, and everything turns average. There’s a small blip of cross-shore wind on Friday the 31st of July and Saturday the 1st of August, but the swell is tiny and the energy is weak, so it’s not worth getting excited about. The second week is a write-off – tiny swell, moderate onshore breezes, and nothing that looks good.
So, bottom line: if you’re desperate for a splash, Sunday morning the 26th is your best bet for clean, tiny waves. Don’t expect much, and take a longboard.
Rusty.
