The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s flat as a pancake. The numbers are tiny, and the wind is just about always in the wrong spot. If you’ve got a kiteboard, you might be interested, but for a surfboard? Leave it at home.
Haambatia (Herzliya)
Water temp is sitting at 82°, which is a touch warmer than usual for the time of year. You’ll be in boardies or a super thin top.
The first few days – from Tuesday the 14th through the end of the first week – are all about tiny, weak swells. We’re looking at 2ft to 3ft of WNW windswell with periods so short (5 to 8 seconds) there’s zero power. The wave energy is pathetic, most days barely cracking 30 to 78. The wind is a constant headache: cross-shore, onshore, always messing up the surface. It’s just poor conditions. There’s a glassy morning on Saturday the 18th and another on Sunday the 19th with dead calm, but the swell is still only 2ft. It’s pretty to look at but useless.
We get a little pulse around Thursday the 24th of July. The morning shows 5ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the energy jumps to 351. That’s a moderate amount of juice. But the wind is cross-onshore from the SW at 9 mph, so it’s choppy and messy. The call is marginal, not good. The afternoon gets worse with onshore wind. Not a winner.
The rest of the outlook fades back to tiny. Friday the 25th morning is 4ft with light cross-onshore, but it’s still a poor call. By the 28th and 29th, we’re back to 2ft and glassy mornings, but there’s no wave energy.
The only half-decent window is the morning of Thursday the 24th, and even that’s a tough call with the chop. For a beginner, 5ft is getting too big, and the conditions aren’t clean. For an expert, 5ft is small and messy.
Bottom line: There’s no standout. The whole 16-day window is a write-off. Haambatia is an inconsistent spot anyway, and this kind of blank run is normal for the area when the swell doesn’t line up. Forecasts can change, but for now, it’s time to find another hobby.
Rusty.
