The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve been staring at the charts for the Herzliya stretch, and I gotta be straight with you—this 16-day window is a tough one. There’s nothing that’s gonna get your heart pumping. We’re looking at a long, quiet run with barely a ripple worth paddling for.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Tuesday, August 18th, at Haambatia (Herzliya). But don’t get your hopes up. We’ve got a tiny 3ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a short period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is weak at 74. The morning is a write-off with a cross-on breeze at 3 mph, and the afternoon gets smashed by a 12 mph onshore wind. The water’s a toasty 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only highlight.
The rest of the week is a total dud. Wednesday the 19th through to Monday the 25th of August, we’re looking at flat, gutless conditions. Swell heights barely scrape 2ft, periods are short, and the energy is pathetic—often dropping into single digits. Winds are a mess, mostly cross-onshore or onshore, with a few glassy mornings that offer nothing but a flat ocean. It’s a blank stretch of days.
From Tuesday, August 26th, through to the end of the period on Wednesday, September 2nd, there’s a slight pulse in the water, but it’s still nothing to write home about. Swell sizes creep up to 3ft to 4ft from the WNW and eventually W, with periods improving to 8-9 seconds, and the combined energy hits moderate levels around 119-127. But the wind is relentless—steady 9-16 mph cross-shore or cross-onshore, making everything choppy and messy. The surf quality is consistently poor, and the guidance confirms it’s just not worth it.
There is no standout break here. The whole period is a write-off for paddle surfing. If you’re a kite surfer, those afternoons with 12-16 mph onshore winds and a bit of chop might get you going, but for a surfboard, leave it in the car.
Rusty.
