The Lowdown

Alright, listen up. If you were hoping for a classic summer swell, you're gonna be bummed. We're staring down a proper flat spell for the next two weeks. It's gonna be a test of character, that's for sure.

We've got a real dry patch on our hands. The first little glimmer of hope shows up around Wednesday, August 12th, but it's nothing to write home about. Then, get ready for a long, quiet stretch. The next time anything interesting happens isn't until around Saturday the 15th, and even then, it's a "maybe." After that, it's more of the same – tiny and uninviting through the 23rd.

The only spot that's even in the conversation is a place called “Garbage.” It’s a super consistent reef break, so it's usually the last one to give up and go flat. The most action we'll see all period is the weekend of the 15th and 16th. The wave energy ticks up a notch, with numbers around 551 and 682, which is still pretty weak, but it's the biggest pulse we get. Swell is coming from the SW, which isn't ideal for this break; it prefers something more from the W. But beggars can't be choosers. Expect small surf, with wave faces around 3ft.

The real kicker is the wind. It's going to be mostly cross-on, and at times it's a moderate breeze, which is going to mess with the surface. Saturday morning has a clean-ish 3ft, but the afternoon sees a slightly bigger 4ft, even though the breeze kicks up. It won't be pretty, but it will be surfable for the dedicated. If you've got that itch, this is the closest you'll get to scratching it.

Other than that, it's all knee-high slop with onshore winds. A total write-off for a paddler. If the wind gets up stronger, this beach setup might look more fun for the kite crew than us. For now, I'd say maybe work on your cutbacks on a skateboard. We're all waiting for the ocean to wake up and give us something real. This is Rusty, holding out for a better forecast.
