Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dreamland over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s lined up for Dreamland over the next couple of weeks.
First things first – the water’s sitting at a warm 81°, right on the money for this time of year, so you won’t need the thick rubber.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start. The first real action kicks off on Saturday the 11th, but it’s nothing to write home about. We’re seeing 5ft of SW swell with a 14-second period, so there’s some long-period groundswell in the water. That longer period means the waves will have good shape and energy, but it also tends to make beach breaks a bit straight – Dreamland is a beach and reef setup though, so it might handle it okay. The wind is cross-off from the ESE at 12 mph, which keeps the surface clean enough, but the combined energy is strong (1219) – it’s surfable, but not pumping. Saturday afternoon is labelled as marginal.
Sunday the 12th shapes up a bit cleaner. The morning sees 3ft of SW swell, 13-second period, with offshore ESE wind at 16 mph. That’s a moderate offshore breeze, which is a major positive – the surface will be glassy and the waves should hold their shape nicely. Combined energy is moderate (476). It’s a small day, but for a longboard or a funboard, it could be a fun, clean session. The afternoon goes cross-off and drops a bit.
Monday the 13th morning brings a tiny 2ft of SSW swell but with a very long 23-second period – that’s some serious groundswell energy, but it’s just not enough height to really get going. The offshore wind is fresh at 19 mph, so it’ll be clean but tiny.
Now, things start to build through the week. By Tuesday the 14th, we’ve got 6ft to 7ft of SSW swell with a 17 to 18-second period – that’s solid groundswell. The combined energy jumps into very strong territory (2753 and 2738). The catch? The wind is cross-off from the ESE at 16 mph both morning and afternoon. It’s clean, but cross-off is not as good as true offshore. This is solid intermediate to advanced surf. For beginners, 6ft and above on a beach break might be a handful.
The standout window looks like Thursday the 16th morning. We get 5ft of SSW swell, 15-second period, and the wind goes offshore from the ESE at 16 mph. The forecast says “expect very good surf conditions” and the combined energy is still strong (1113). That’s the one to aim for – clean, offshore, decent size, and good energy. Thursday afternoon drops off a bit and goes cross-off.
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are similar – 5ft to 5ft of SW swell, 14 to 15-second periods, cross-off winds. Surfable, but nothing special. The energy is moderate to strong.
The second week gets a bit more interesting again. Sunday the 19th morning shows 4ft of SSW swell but with a 21-second period – that’s a very long period groundswell. The combined energy is strong (1626). Wind is cross-off from the SE at 12 mph. Long period at a beach and reef break can be tricky – the sets come less often but have more punch. Worth a look if you’re patient.
Monday the 20th morning pushes up to 8ft of SSW swell, 17-second period, and the combined energy is very strong (3100). That’s a big day – only for experienced surfers. The wind is cross-off and fresh at 22 mph, which will be bumpy and challenging. Might be more of a kite session than a paddle session.
Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd drop back down to 6ft to 4ft range, with cross-off winds. Nothing to get too excited about.
Towards the very end of the window, around Friday the 24th morning, we get a little pulse – 5ft of SSW swell, 14-second period, and the wind goes offshore from the ESE at 19 mph. That’s fresh offshore, so it’ll be clean and hollow on the reef. The combined energy is strong (1783). Friday afternoon gets bigger again at 6ft with a 16-second period and very strong energy (3134), but the wind goes cross-off.
Overall, the best bet is Thursday the 16th morning – clean offshore wind, solid 5ft SW groundswell, and good energy. If you miss that, Sunday the 19th morning could surprise with that 21-second period, but those long-period sets mean you’ll need to be patient and pick your waves.
Keep an eye on the wind forecasts – if a true offshore sticks around on any of these cross-off days, it’ll be much better than what’s currently showing.
Stay stoked.
