Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dreamland over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about the next couple of weeks at Dreamland.
Alright, Dreamland, we’ve got a solid run of swell on the cards but it’s not all clean. The water is sitting at 80.8°F, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real standout, and it’s not a perfect one, is Saturday morning, July 11th. We’ve got some decent 5.2ft SSW groundswell rolling in with a period of 14 seconds. The wind is offshore from the ESE, so it’s going to be clean. The energy is moderate at 1149, but it’s the best combo of size and clean conditions we see in the first week. Keep in mind the swell is from the SSW, but the optimum here is SW, so it’s a little off-angle, but still workable. Expect some good, lined-up waves, but it’s 5.2ft, so it’s getting a bit punchy for the beginners.
After that, things get a bit messy. The wind goes cross-offshore for most of the afternoons, and the swell holds up around 5ft to 6.2ft, but the quality drops. Thursday July 9th through Friday July 10th have some solid 6.2ft SSW swell, but the wind is either cross-off or a fresh 22 mph offshore, which will make it bumpy. The energy is high, hitting 1940 on Friday morning, but with that wind, it’s not going to be the clean session you’re looking for.
The real potential for a proper session comes later. On Tuesday July 14th, the energy jumps right up to 2423 with a 6.2ft SSW swell and a period of 17 seconds. That’s a lot of water moving around. The problem is, the wind is cross-offshore from the ESE at 16 mph, so it’s going to be a bit choppy. If you’re an expert, you might find some power, but it’s not the clean glass we want.
And then, hold onto your board, because on Wednesday July 15th, the energy peaks at 2473. The swell is 6.6ft from the SSW, period 17 seconds. That’s a serious groundswell. But again, the wind is cross-offshore and fresh, so it’s going to be a lumpy, powerful beast. This is for experts only. The long period (17 seconds) means it will be better on a reef or point, but Dreamland is a beach and reef setup, so it might break too straight. It’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a nice paddle session.
The best window for a clean, fun surf comes right at the end. On Friday July 24th, we get a 4.9ft SSW swell with a 16 second period, and the wind drops to a gentle 9 mph breeze from the SE. That’s cross-off, but it’s light. The forecast says "expect very good surf conditions" for the morning. The energy is solid at 1244, and with that light wind, it’s likely to be the cleanest, most user-friendly day of the whole run. Crowds are possible at Dreamland, so get there early.
The second week has some solid size, but it's all in that cross-off wind. The morning of July 18th has a nice 4.6ft SW swell with a 15-second period and offshore wind, but the energy is moderate. It’s a decent option, but not the standout.
So, the best on offer? Saturday morning July 11th for a clean, punchy session, and Friday morning July 24th for the cleanest, most enjoyable waves of the whole outlook. The rest is either too windy or too big and messy.
