Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cabo Blanco over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Cabo Blanco.
Straight up, the next week and a half is looking like a write-off for any decent waves. We’re staring down a long, dry gap from today through to about the 20th of July. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple, and the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, which just messes up what little bump there is. The water is running at 74° – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, a solid 7° above average, which is pretty wild.
The first real sign of life shows up on the morning of Sunday, July 20th. We’ve got a pulse of WNW swell coming through, with a period of 21 seconds. That’s a proper long-period groundswell, and at a point break like Cabo Blanco, that’s exactly what you want to see for shape. The swell height is only 0.7 ft, so don’t get too excited about size, but the ocean energy is climbing to 46 (moderate energy). The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the SSW at 12 mph, which is a major positive for clean conditions. The crowds here are often, so you won’t be alone, but it’s a big wave spot for advanced surfers only.
The real standout, the one worth circling on the calendar, is the morning of Tuesday, July 21st. The swell holds from the WNW at 1.0 ft with a period of 20 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 78 (moderate energy). The wind is light from the SSW at 9 mph, with a cross-shore direction. That’s going to be glassy, clean, and the wave quality will be there for the few who paddle out. For a spot that’s fairly consistent but needs the right swell window, this is the best on offer in the whole 16-day window.
After that, the energy fades through the rest of the week, with the swell dropping back to 1.0 ft to 1 ft, and the wind picking up harder from the SSW, getting lumpy. The morning of Thursday, July 24th, still has some 1 ft NW swell with a 16-second period and 86 energy (moderate), but the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-shore, so it’s going to be bumpy. Not worth the hassle.
Overall, it’s a long wait for a very short window of clean, small-to-medium groundswell. If you’re an experienced surfer and you’ve got the patience, the 21st is your day. Otherwise, it’s a kitesurfing setup for most of the rest of it.
Rusty.
