The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s call it like it is: the next 16 days at Cabo Blanco are a total flat spell. There’s no surf worth chasing, and it’s gonna be a long haul. The first record starts on July 16th, but it’s just a cruel tease.
For the first week, from Thursday the 16th through to Wednesday the 22nd, we’re looking at nothing but tiny, weak bumps. The swell is all under 4ft, and mostly a lot smaller, with periods as short as 4 seconds – that’s pure wind chop, not real swell. The combined energy is low (under 52), and the wind is cross-shore or cross-off at best, so it’s choppy and messy. There’s a brief moment on the morning of the 22nd with a clean cross-off breeze, but the swell is only 1ft from the NW with a 19-second period. That long period groundswell would be better for a point or reef, but there’s just no height to work with. It’s a total dud.
Then we hit a real gap. From the morning of the 24th right through to the afternoon of the 26th of July, there’s zero swell – flat as a pancake. The 24th morning has an offshore wind, but no waves to ride.
After that, from the 27th of July onward, it’s more of the same. Tiny dribbles of NW swell, 0.7ft to 1ft, with periods around 12 to 14 seconds. The energy is still weak (under 54). The wind stays cross-shore, so it’s lumpy and uninviting. Even the morning of the 30th with a light breeze won’t save it.
There’s nothing here for a surfer. The water is a weird 75°F on the 16th, which is a massive 8°F warmer than normal for the area – that’s very unusual, but you won’t be in the water anyway. Honestly, this stretch is so poor and the winds are so persistent and cross-shore that this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Don’t hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing.
Rusty.
