Table - best surf conditions forecast for Brookings/South Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cookin’ for Brookings. It’s a slow start, and honestly, the whole 16-day window is a tough one. The first few days are a washout, with small, wind-affected NW swell and cross-shore breezes messing up the surface. The water’s sitting at 56°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so nothing to get fired up about there.
The first mention of any real size comes Saturday the 12th, but it’s bumpy and short-period. The real kicker doesn’t show up until Friday the 17th of July, when a solid pulse of NW swell pushes through. The forecast shows the swell jumping to 12 ft on Friday afternoon, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s a lot of water moving, with combined energy hitting 1638 (strong). The wind is a moderate cross-shore, but the problem is that at this size, Brookings/South Jetty is just too exposed. It’s a beach/jetty setup, and anything over 8 ft is expert-only territory. The score ain’t there for the average surfer.
The real standout, if you’ve got the nerve, is Saturday the 18th of July. The swell holds at 10 ft with the same short period, but the combined energy jumps to a massive 2075 (very strong). The wind is still cross-shore, but the power is undeniable. This is a big-wave day for the brave, and the northwest swell direction is exactly what this spot wants. It’s too big for beginners, but if you’re an expert, it’s the best on offer.
Honestly, after that, the pattern gets messy. The swell drops and switches direction, with a lot of SW groundswell coming through from the 20th onwards. Those long-period SW swells (16-26 seconds) are prone to breaking straight on the beach, making for a frustrating paddle. The 24th and 25th look promising with a long-period SW groundswell, but the energy is moderate (around 524-825), and the cross-shore wind will keep it from being truly clean. The crowds at Brookings are sometimes an issue, but with this quality, it’ll be quiet.
So, for the pick of the lot: Saturday the 18th of July. It’s a big, powerful NW swell that’s going to light up the jetty. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but it’s the only true highlight in the whole run. Stay safe out there.
