British Beach Surf Forecast and Surf Report

First off, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this is a rough stretch for British Beach. We’re looking at a 16-day window, but don’t get your hopes up for a single good session. The surf just isn’t cooperating.

The whole period kicks off on Thursday, 6th August, but it’s a write-off. We’ve got a 5ft swell from the ESE, but it’s a short period windswell at 8 seconds, and that 22 mph cross-shore wind is ruining any chance of a wave. The water’s a warm 78°, which is about average for this time of year, but that’s the only plus.

The following days are a real grind. Friday the 7th through to the 11th, the swell drops right off – we’re talking 1ft to 2ft, with periods mostly around 9 to 12 seconds. The winds are cross-offshore, which is about the only decent thing, but there’s simply no power. The combined swell energy is stuck in the double digits – weak stuff. You’d be floating out there, not surfing.

From the 12th to the 14th, it gets even worse. Swell periods dive to 4 seconds, which is just messy. The energy is pitiful. The wind is still cross or cross-off, but it doesn’t matter when there’s nothing to ride.

The second week doesn’t offer any relief. The 15th of August has a brief moment of hope with a 3ft swell from the SE, but at 4 seconds, it’s junk. The 16th sees a longer period swell of 15 seconds from the S, giving a moderate 2ft, but the wind switches to a fresh 22 mph cross-on. That’s lumpy, ugly, and useless. The 17th and 18th bring some size – 5ft to 5ft – but it’s still wind-affected and short period, and by the 18th the energy finally climbs into the moderate range, but it’s cross-on and choppy. Not worth paddling out for.

The 19th and 20th keep the trend going: moderate energy, but the wind is either cross or cross-on, and the swell direction is all over the place. The 20th has a 6ft swell from the S, but with a 7-second period and 19 mph cross-shore, it’s just a washing machine. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.

We end the outlook on the 21st of August with a 3ft swell and a 14-second period from the SSE – that’s a long period groundswell, which is promising for a point break or reef, but British Beach is exposed and the wind is cross-on. It’ll be a choppy mess.

There are no standouts here. Not a single day where the stars align. The whole 16 days is a blank run, and for this area, that’s just how it goes sometimes. The forecasts can change, but right now, leave the board in the shed.
