Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s coming up for the next couple of weeks.
We’re focusing on Bingin, a classic reef break. The water’s sitting at 81°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing wild there. The big story is that we’ve got a solid run of south-southwest swell coming through, but there are some trade-offs with the wind and conditions.
This Saturday, July 4th, we’re kicking off with a 7ft SSW swell, period around 15 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell. The wind is cross-off from the ESE at 12 mph, so the surface should be pretty clean. The combined energy is strong (2027), but the call is marginal surf, maybe due to tide. It’s more of a warm-up session.
The standout, no question, is Sunday morning, July 5th. The swell drops just a touch to 6ft from the SSW, still with a long 14-second period, but the wind shifts fully offshore from the ESE at 12 mph. That’s the magic combo. Clean, groomed waves for experienced surfers. The energy is still strong at 1516. This is your window.
From Sunday afternoon and through the following week, the wind stays mostly cross-off and a bit stronger, often a fresh breeze pushing 15 to 19 mph. The swell size bounces between 4ft and 7ft, with long periods in the 15 to 17-second range. The energy stays moderate to strong (values between 933 and 2123), but the conditions are consistently described as marginal. There’s lots of energy, but the wind and possibly tide are keeping things from being perfect.
Around Thursday, July 9th, and Friday, July 10th, we see a bit more size (7ft and 6ft) with very long periods, but the wind is strong and cross-off. There’s rain showers in the forecast too. This might appeal to the more committed surfer, but it’s not the cleanest.
Looking into the second week, from around July 12th onward, the swell drops off noticeably. Heights fall under 3ft through the middle of the week, with energy dropping into the hundreds (458, 371, 441). The period on July 13th hits 20 seconds, which is very long, but with only 1ft of swell, it’s not going to do much.
There is a little pulse on Tuesday morning, July 14th: a 3ft SSW swell with an 18-second period and fresh offshore wind at 19 mph from the ESE (1125 energy). It’ll be clean, but it’s small. A longboard could have fun. The main contender for the best day in week two is Sunday morning, July 12th, with a 3ft SW swell, 13-second period, and offshore wind—small but tidy.
By the final weekend, July 18th and 19th, the swell is fading fast (3ft, weak energy under 320), and the conditions are either poor or very marginal. Not worth getting excited about.
If you’re an advanced surfer, get it done this Sunday morning, July 5th. That’s the one. The rest of the run has waves, but you’ll be working for them.
