Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming down the line for the next couple of weeks.
It’s pretty much a one-spot show this time, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a long stretch of mostly iffy conditions, with a couple of windows worth getting wet for. Water temp is 81°, right on average for the season.
We kick off Monday, July 6 with some serious power in the water, but it’s a tease. Swell is 6ft from the SSW with a very long period of 16 seconds—proper groundswell. The energy is a heavy 2462 (strong). Sounds epic, but the wind is a fresh cross-offshore from the SE at 19 mph, and it’s tagged ‘marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions’. Lots of grunt, but messy.
Tuesday, July 7 drops to 5ft, still a long 16-second period, energy down to 933 (moderate). Wind stays cross-off, fresh. Still marginal.
Wednesday, July 8 sees a jump back up. Morning swell is 7ft from the SSW at 15 seconds, energy 1907 (strong). Afternoon pushes to 7ft with 16 seconds and 2095 (strong). At 7ft, that’s expert-only territory. Wind is a moderate cross-offshore. The marginal tag sticks.
Thursday, July 9 holds similar size—7ft in the morning, dropping to 6ft in the afternoon—but wind picks up to fresh, with some rain showers. Energy stays strong (2095 and 1781). Still not coming together.
Friday, July 10 continues: 6ft in the morning, 6ft in the afternoon, all SSW/SW with 16-second periods. Energy is strong (1948 and 1741). Wind is cross-off, moderate to fresh. Marginal.
The first real standout is Sunday, July 12 morning. Swell drops to a more user-friendly 3ft from the SW at 13 seconds, energy moderate at 733. The big change is wind swinging offshore from the ESE at 16 mph. The call is ‘expect very good surf conditions’. This is your moment—clean, offshore, and Bingin (Bali) loves a SW swell. The afternoon fades fast, with energy dropping to 427 and wind going cross-off, so get out early.
Monday, July 13 morning still has offshore wind but the swell is only 2ft, energy 439. Small.
Then we hit a lull for a few days. From Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 17, the swell picks back up but the wind stubbornly stays cross-offshore. Conditions are consistently marginal. There’s a spike Tuesday afternoon with 4ft swell but an 18-second period and energy of 2126 (strong)—lots of push, but the wind isn’t cooperating.
Another glimmer on Friday, July 17 morning. Swell is 5ft from the SW at 14 seconds, energy 849 (moderate), and the wind drops to a gentle breeze from the ESE—still cross-off, but lighter. The call is ‘expect very good surf conditions’. Not as clean as the Sunday session, but a decent backup.
The last week gets messy again. Swell sizes bounce between 4ft and 7ft, periods from 14 to 17 seconds. Wind stays moderate to fresh cross-offshore. There’s a bump on Sunday, July 19 with 7ft SW swell and strong energy (2121), but still cross-off and marginal. Keep it on the radar, but don’t hold your breath.
Bottom line: the standout is Sunday, July 12 morning at Bingin. That’s your clean, offshore, groundswell window. Backup is Friday, July 17 morning—lighter wind but still cross-off. Everything else is a battle with raw power and messy wind. For the experienced crew, the bigger days mid-week could be a challenge, but expect a fight.
Rusty.
