The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for the next couple of weeks.
We’re looking at a solid run of swell at Bingin, but the wind is a bit of a mixed bag. The water’s sitting at 80°, which is bang on the money for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days are going to be a taste of things to come, but not the best. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th have some clean 5ft and 4ft SW swell, but that cross-off wind from the ESE is a bit breezy at 19 mph. The energy is moderate, around 900-980 (combined energy). It’s surfable, but you’ll be working for it.
Monday the 20th is where things start to get interesting. The swell picks up to 5ft from the SW in the morning, and by the afternoon it’s bumping to 7ft from the SSW with a long 16-second period. The combined energy jumps to 2299, which is getting into that strong zone. The cross-off wind is still there, but the quality of the wave is better. This is a good day for the experienced crew.
The real standout, though, is looking like Saturday the 25th. The morning has a clean 4ft SSW swell with a 15-second period, but the wind is truly offshore from the ESE at 19 mph. That’s a big, big plus. The combined energy is 1643, a solid moderate-to-strong pulse. Bingin is a reef break that’s fairly exposed to the SW, and with that offshore wind, it’ll be smooth and lined up. This is your best bet in the first week. Just be aware, crowds are often here, so get out early.
After that, the surf doesn’t disappear but the wind stays a bit stubborn. There’s a pulse on the 28th with 6ft SSW swell and a 17-18 second period, but it’s mostly cross-off. The energy is strong (2337), but the wind isn’t as clean as the 25th.
The tail end of the outlook, into the 31st of July and the 1st of August, sees some bigger SSW and SW swell, up to 6ft and 8ft, but the wind is cross-off again. The 8ft on the 1st of August with a short 10-second period is a bit of a messy combo, better for the experts.
Overall, the surf is consistent, but the wind is the main factor. The 25th of July is the one to circle. It’s promising, but we’re far enough out that it’s not a dead cert. Keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
