Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bingin over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Bit of a mixed bag coming up for Bingin over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a solid run of south-west groundswell on the cards, but there’s a catch—most of the time the conditions are only hanging in the ‘marginal’ range according to the models. Still, there are a few windows where it’ll clean up nicely, so let’s get into it.
The water’s sitting at 81°, right around the normal mark for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first chance for a surf comes this Sunday morning, 12 July. It’s small but clean, with that ESE breeze holding offshore at 16 mph. Swell is 3 ft from the SW, period a nice long 13 seconds, so there’s some real groundswell energy in the water—moderate at 598. It won’t be big, but that offshore wind will have it looking glassy. Crowds can be an issue here though, so get in early.
Monday morning, 13 July, drops right off—swell down to 2 ft. Not worth paddling out for. That afternoon picks back up to 3 ft but still tiny.
Tuesday 14 July sees the swell start to build. Morning has 6 ft from the SSW with a 17-second period, and combined energy jumps to 2450—that’s moderate-to-strong energy. The wind is cross-off, so it’s rideable but not perfect. By the afternoon we’re at 7 ft, 18 seconds, energy up to 2776. Getting solid, but still cross-off breeze.
Wednesday 15 July continues with 7 ft in the morning, dropping to 6 ft in the arvo, both with 16-second periods. Energy stays strong (2156 and 1710). Still cross-off winds though.
Thursday 16 July is a standout morning. Swell 5 ft from the SSW, 15-second period, and the wind flips offshore from the ESE at 16 mph. That’ll produce clean, lined-up sets at Bingin (Bingin). Energy is 1147. This is the pick of the first week for sure—offshore wind, fun-sized groundswell, proper reef setup. Get on it.
From Friday 17 July through to Sunday 19 July, the swell hangs in the 4 ft to 5 ft range with periods between 13 and 16 seconds, but the wind stays cross-off and bumps up to 19 mph at times. It’s not bad, but not worth calling a stand-out.
Now, the second week starts to look more promising. Monday 20 July brings a jump: 8 ft SSW swell, 17 seconds, and combined energy rips up to 3571 in the morning and 3305 in the afternoon. That’s strong wave energy. Wind is cross-off again, but at 8 ft on a reef, this is expert territory. Too big for beginners.
Tuesday 21 July drops slightly to 6 ft in the morning and 6 ft arvo, well overhead and still powerful with 15-14 second periods. Energy still high at 1589 and 1370. Cross-off wind again.
Wednesday 22 July backs off to 5 ft, still solid enough, but wind shifts to cross-off from the SSE.
Thursday 23 July is smaller again, 4 ft to 3 ft. A bit of a lull.
Friday 24 July sees another pulse: 4 ft in the morning with a 13-second period, but the afternoon jumps to 4 ft from a 20-second SSW groundswell—very long period. Combined energy 1610. That kind of period on a reef like Bingin will produce some absolute gems, but it can be tricky with such long waits between sets.
Then Saturday 25 July, the biggest day of the outlook. Morning swell 8 ft, afternoon 8 ft, both from the SSW with 17-16 second periods. Energy is massive—3492 in the morning, 4091 in the afternoon. This is strong to very strong wave energy. Only for experienced surfers. Cross-off wind again, so it’ll be clean but heavy.
Sunday 26 July holds at 8 ft in the morning, 8 ft in the afternoon, still sizeable and powerful. Wind picks up to 19 mph from the ESE, still cross-off.
Monday 27 July finishes the run with 6 ft to 7 ft, 14-second period, but the swell direction goes more S, which isn’t quite as ideal for Bingin’s optimum SW window.
So overall, the best bets are Thursday 16 July morning for clean, fun offshore conditions, and then the bigger swells from Monday 20 July through to Saturday 25 July for advanced and expert surfers—just know that cross-off wind is the norm, not true offshore glass. Crowds are likely on those cleaner days, so plan accordingly.
Stay keen, check the tides, and I’ll see you out there.
Rusty.
