Alright, Rusty here. Let me walk you through this one.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you: the surf outlook for Accra Beach - Rockley Beach over the next 16 days is a tough sell. There’s a real lack of quality on the table, and for long stretches, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The first proper sign of life doesn’t show up until a couple of days in, but even then, it’s messy.
We kick off Sunday, July 5th, with a 6 ft swell out of the east, but don’t get excited—it’s short period stuff at 8 seconds and the wind is a cross-shore at 30 km/h. That’s creating lumpy cross-chop, and the wave energy is moderate (512). The water temp is 83°, which is about normal for this time of year, but the conditions are just poor.
Monday and Tuesday are small or messy, with nothing rideable. Wednesday morning, July 8th, we see some size bumping up to 7 ft from the east, still a short 8-second period. The wind stays cross-shore, so the surf is still poor. However, by Wednesday afternoon, the wind shifts slightly to cross-offshore, and the combined swell energy climbs to 643 (moderate). The wave comment calls it “marginal,” but at least it’s clean. That’s the best it gets for a few days, but honestly, it’s barely a standout.
Thursday, July 9th, sees the swell peak with 8 ft from the east and a combined energy of around 937 (moderate), but those strong east cross-shore winds at 35 km/h keep it lumpy and poor. Not worth it unless you’re after a battle.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th show some cleaner conditions with cross-offshore winds and swell holding around 8 ft to 8 ft (energy 754–887), but the period is still short at 8 seconds, and the wave comment stays “marginal” at best. This is really for the keen, experienced surfer. Crowds are “sometimes” an issue here, so you might have company.
Then from Sunday, July 12th, through Tuesday morning, July 14th, there’s a gap of nearly two days with zero surf—flat, clean, but no waves to speak of. A tiny pulse appears on Tuesday afternoon with 6 ft from the east, but it’s still “poor” with moderate energy (366). The rest of that week stays small or poor.
By Thursday, July 16th, a long-period groundswell sneaks in—0.3 ft from the southeast with a 13-second period. That’s a very long period, but the height is tiny, so it’s not going to do anything. The combination of energy is very weak (12).
The last few days, from July 17th to the 20th, see small east swells returning around 5–6 ft, but again, the wind is cross-shore or cross-offshore, and the consistency is poor. The best setup is probably Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, when it’s clean but flat, or Saturday the 18th when there’s some swell but it’s chopped up.
Honestly, if you’re a beginner, anything over 5 ft here is too big when the wind is on it, and the stuff over 8 ft on Thursday is only for experts—but with the chop, even that’s not fun. For a beach break, the short-period east swell with strong cross-winds makes this look more like a kiteboarding session than a surf session. The blank runs are fairly normal for this area in this setup.
Not much to chase, but forecasts can change. Keep an eye on it.
