The Lowdown
Alright, let's have a look at what's cookin' over the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it's a bit of a grim run for Walkers. We've got a decent amount of swell on the horizon, but the wind is going to be a real problem for most of it, keeping things messy.
The water temp is sitting at about 84°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so at least you won't be needing a wetsuit.
The biggest issue is that persistent easterly wind. It's mostly cross-on or onshore from here right through to the end of the month and beyond. That onshore breeze is just going to wreck any chance of a clean face. The swell energy is moderate at best for the first week, with values around 200-300 (moderate wave energy) for most of it, and the period is short, around 7 to 8 seconds, which means weak, crumbly waves. Not worth paddling out.
There is a spike in size on Monday the 24th of August, with swell heights hitting 10ft to 12ft and the energy jumping up to 2396 and then 4494 (very strong wave energy), and on the Monday afternoon the wind actually goes onshore with a longer period of 13 seconds. But the problem is the wind is onshore and it's lumpy. That's a whole lot of water moving around with no shape, just a messy, blown-out wall. That’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing day, to be honest. Even for experts, that looks like a washing machine.
Later on, around the 30th of August into September, the swell period does get longer, hitting 13 seconds, which is better for shape, but the wind is still cross-on or cross-shore, keeping the quality poor. The combined energy on the 30th August morning is 944 (moderate wave energy) and the 31st August afternoon is 983 (moderate wave energy), so there is some power behind it, but it’s just not going to be clean.
For the entire 16-day window, the best recommendation I can give is maybe the afternoon of Tuesday the 25th of August, which is at least a "marginal" call, with a 6ft swell from the ENE and a gentle cross-onshore breeze. It's still not great, but it's the least bad. Or maybe the morning of Wednesday the 26th of August, when the wind swings SE, giving a cross-shore, with a 4ft swell. It’s still a short period 8 seconds, but it’s the cleanest wind we’ll see. It’s a shame, because the break is consistent and exposed, but the wind just won’t play ball. The optimum swell direction from the NE is in the mix, but it's all for nothing.
Honestly, for the next two weeks, I'd keep the board in the car and look for something else to do. It’s a blank run.
