The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s happening for Tel Baruch North Beach over the next couple of weeks.

First off, I gotta be straight with you – the outlook is a bit of a tough one. The forecast shows a long stretch of minimal wave activity. The water temperature is sitting at 84°F with an anomaly of 2°F, so it’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is nice for a swim, but not so much for the surf.

We start off on Friday, 31 July, and honestly, there’s nothing to recommend. The swell is tiny, around 3 ft from the WNW with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy of all swells is weak at 71, and the wind is cross-on, making for poor surf conditions. This pattern just keeps going. Saturday the 1st of August, Sunday the 2nd, Monday the 3rd – it’s all the same story. Small, weak swell, 2 ft to 3 ft, and cross-onshore winds chopping it up. The energy readings are in the low double digits, barely a pulse.

We’ve got a real blank run here. Through the first week of August, if you’re hoping for a wave, you’re going to be disappointed. The break is fairly consistent, but the swell just isn’t showing up. It’s a beach and point setup, but right now it’s looking more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, with that constant cross-onshore breeze.

We do get a couple of brief moments of relief. On Wednesday morning, 5 August, the wind goes glassy, and on Tuesday morning, 11 August, we get another glassy window. But the swell is still pathetic – 1 ft to 2 ft, with energy as low as 12 and 37. You might get a tiny, clean ripple, but it’s not going to be a proper surf.

The second week is even worse. From 9 August onward, the swell drops to 1 ft or 1.0 ft, and the wave energy plummets to single digits. It’s just flat. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, so even the tiny bumps are messy.

So, what’s the best on offer? Honestly, there isn’t a true standout. If I had to point to anything, the glassy mornings on 5 August and 11 August give you the cleanest water, but you’ll be on a 1 ft to 2 ft dribble. It’s not really surfable. For the rest of the 16-day run, it’s a write-off. The forecast can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home and maybe grab a beer by the shore.

Rusty.
