The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – the next 16 days are not looking good for a paddle. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell on the cards.
For the first week and a half, the surf is almost non-existent. From Thursday, August 6th right through to Tuesday, August 18th, the swell is tiny, mostly around 1 ft to 3 ft, with a short, weak period of just 6 to 7 seconds. The combined wave energy is pitiful, barely cracking 100 (20 to 88) for most of that time. The wind is a mess too – mostly onshore or cross-onshore, which will chop up whatever little bumps there are. The water is a warm 85° – a touch warmer than normal – but there’s just no energy to ride.
There is a slight uptick on Tuesday, August 18th afternoon, where the swell pushes up to 3 ft and the energy finally hits triple digits (111). But it’s coming with a strong onshore wind from the WNW, so it’ll be a crumbly, blown-out mess. Still, if you’re desperate, that’s the only window where you might find a few close-out walls. The swell direction is from the WNW, and while the break is exposed to west swell, the short period means it won’t have any real shape.
Honestly, for a beach and point setup like Tel Baruch North Beach, with this kind of weak, short-period swell and crummy wind, it looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The consistency is "fairly consistent" for this area, so a blank run like this is a bit unusual, but it happens. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, don’t get your hopes up.
Rusty.
