The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be real about the next 16 days – it’s a long stretch of near-nothing for surf. The first half-decent chance doesn’t show up until Monday, July 27th, and even that’s a quiet, small-wave affair. After that, there’s a big gap of days with no real surf until Sunday, August 2nd, and then a final tiny window on Monday, August 3rd. It’s a proper dry spell for most of the forecast.

The best of the lot is at Tel Baruch North Beach, and it’s not a big one, but it’s clean. The standout is Monday, July 27th, in the early morning. We’ve got a small 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW… nothing to write home about size-wise, but the wind is glassy – dead flat water, no chop. The period is 8 seconds, so it’s a short little wind swell, but under those conditions you’ll find clean, peelable little waves. The combined energy is weak (157), so it’s easy paddling. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, and it’s fairly consistent, so you’ll get a few rides. The water is sitting at 84°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – almost a degree and a half above average, so it’s pleasant. Crowds are often around here, so expect a few others for that glassy morning.

The other moment to keep an eye on is Sunday, August 2nd, morning. Again, glassy winds, with a 2ft swell from the WNW, period of 8 seconds. It’s a very small wave, combined energy of just 51, so it’s a longboard or a foamy kind of day. It’s surfable but very ordinary. The same goes for Monday, August 3rd, morning – glassy, but only 2ft of swell, still from the WNW, period 7 seconds. Energy is a tiny 32. It’s a paddle for the sake of it, not a wave count kind of session.

Don’t bother with the afternoons – the wind swings onshore, turns choppy, and the wave quality drops to poor. And for the rest of the 16 days, it’s a mix of cross-shore junk, tiny or no swell, and poor surf conditions. There’s a stretch from July 28th right through to August 1st where the only thing on offer is a few 1ft to 3ft days with a cross-breeze, not worth wetting the suit.

So, if you’ve got a longboard and a flexible schedule, Monday, July 27th morning is your best shot. It’s not a classic, but it’s clean. Otherwise, the forecast is a long wait until August 2nd, and even then, it’s a glassy paddle in tiny waves. Be patient, it’ll turn.

Rusty.
