Puerto San Jose Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, it’s Rusty here. Let’s cut to it for the next couple of weeks at Puerto San Jose. The start is slow, but there’s a solid run of clean mornings coming up, especially toward the middle and end of next week. The surf stays on the smaller side, but when the wind drops, it’s going to be worth the early alarm.

The first couple of days, Tuesday the 4th through Thursday the 6th, are just blown out or too small. We’ve got under 3 feet of SSW swell, but the cross-onshore wind chops it up. Tuesday morning has a tiny 2ft SSW swell at 13 seconds, glassy, but the energy is weak at 187. It’s not doing anything. You’re better off waiting.

Friday morning the 7th sees the high pressure settle in. The wind goes dead calm, glassy as can be. The swell read 2ft but with a long 18-second period, and the energy jumps to 375. It’s small, but it’s clean. The real turn comes Saturday morning the 8th. We get 3ft of SSW swell at 16 seconds, and the energy is at 626. It’s glassy, and the water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – around 88°, so you’ll be fine in boardshorts. This is your first proper window.

Sunday the 9th keeps it going with another glassy morning, 3ft of SSW swell at 14 seconds. Still fun. The afternoons all get ruined by the wind, so you’ve got to be out there early. Monday and Tuesday mornings the 10th and 11th are also clean with 3ft waves, but the energy drops a bit. Still worth a paddle.

Now for the standout. Look at Saturday morning the 15th. We’ve got 4ft of clean SSW swell at 16 seconds, and the energy is ripping at 873. That’s a powerful, long-period groundswell, and the wind is dead calm. This is the one to chase. Friday the 14th is also a cracker – 3ft swell at a very long 18 seconds, energy at 720, also glassy. Those two mornings are the best on offer.

The size is manageable for everyone – under 5ft – but the long periods mean the waves will have some push. Being a beach break, the long-period swell might make it a bit straight, but with that much energy, you’ll still get some good shape. Crowds are often around, so don’t expect solitude, but the clean conditions will make it worth it.

After that, Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th still have 3ft and 3ft waves on offer, but the energy is backing off. The long-range stuff into the 18th and 19th looks smaller again, just those clean but small morning sessions. The afternoons are a complete write-off – the wind just destroys it every day. So, it’s a dawn patrol mission, no two ways about it.

If you’ve got a free morning, make it the 15th. The 14th is your backup. Keep it early, and you’ll be right.
