Puerto San Jose Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ for Puerto San Jose.

Right off the bat, the first few days are a bit of a write-off. We’ve got some small, weak swell on Tuesday the 4th and Wednesday the 5th, but it’s all cross-on wind and the wave comment ain’t pretty – definitely not worth paddling out for. The water temp is sitting at 88°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a wetsuit.

The first real glimmer of hope comes on Thursday morning the 6th. The wind goes glassy, and while the swell is tiny at 1ft from the SSW, the period jumps to a long 14 seconds. Combined energy is moderate (140). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Not a standout.

Now, Friday morning the 7th is where things start to get interesting. We’ve got a clean, glassy start with a 2ft SSW swell, but the period is a very long 18 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell. The energy reading jumps to 376 (moderate), and the forecast says “expect good surf conditions.” For a spot that’s exposed to the SSW, this is a promising little window. It’s small, but clean.

The real standout of the whole outlook is Saturday morning the 8th. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the SSW, with a 16-second period, and the energy is now 639 – solid moderate. The wind is glassy, offshore from the NW, and the forecast is calling for “very good surf conditions.” This is the best on offer in the first week. Get on it early before the afternoon cross-on wind spoils it.

Sunday morning the 9th holds a similar 3ft SSW swell, still glassy, but the period drops to 14 seconds. Still fun, but not quite the peak of Saturday.

We go through a bit of a lull Monday the 10th through Wednesday the 12th, with onshore winds and choppy afternoons, though Wednesday morning the 12th does offer a brief glassy moment with 2ft SSW swell at 16 seconds – worth a quick look if you’re keen.

The next big standout is Friday morning the 14th. The swell is back to 3ft from the SSW, 18-second period, and the energy jumps to 715 – now we’re talking strong. Glassy conditions, offshore from the north. This is a real gem. The afternoon gets messy, but the morning will be tidy.

Then Saturday morning the 15th takes the cake. The swell pushes to 4ft from the SSW, 16-second period, and the energy is 740 – strong. Glassy, offshore from the ESE. This is the best of the entire 16-day run. Clean, punchy, and lined up. If you can only pick one session, this is it.

Sunday morning the 16th and Monday morning the 17th offer smaller but still clean 3ft SSW swells, though the energy drops. Tuesday morning the 18th is glassy with 3ft, and Wednesday morning the 19th caps it off with a nice 3ft SSW swell, glassy, 16-second period, and strong energy (536). Another very good morning session.

Overall, the standout windows are Saturday morning the 8th, Friday morning the 14th, and especially Saturday morning the 15th. The rest of the time, the afternoons get chewed up by cross-on winds, but the mornings are where the magic happens.
