Playa El Agua Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about what’s coming for Playa El Agua.

To put it bluntly, this is a rough stretch ahead for us. We’re looking at a full 16-day run with nothing that’s really worth paddling out for. It’s a blank run, which can happen here, so don’t get too twisted about it. The waves are on offer, but the conditions are just brutal.

The whole pattern is the same story: a persistent easterly wind that stays cross-onshore or directly onshore. That wind is just chewing up any chance of a clean face, leaving us with lumpy, choppy, or poor surf for the entire forecast. There is no window of glassy or offshore conditions to be found.

Right from Tuesday the 11th, we’ve got a tiny 3 ft swell from the ENE with a short, weak period of 5 seconds and a combined energy of just 36 – that’s barely a ripple. And it’s messy. That same formula of small, weak, wind-battered surf just drags on day after day. It’s all poor surf conditions and cross-on wind.

We do see the swell size bump up a touch around Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th, with heights hitting 5 ft to 6 ft from the NE. The energy climbs to moderate levels, like 474 on the Friday afternoon, but it’s all for nothing. The period is still short (7-8 seconds) and the wind is a fresh cross-onshore breeze. That combination just means bumpy, lumpy lines with no shape. That 6 ft stuff is getting too big for beginners, but the quality is so poor, even an expert wouldn’t be stoked.

There’s a flicker of something different on Monday the 17th. That afternoon sees a 4 ft swell from the ENE with a much longer period of 11 seconds and solid energy of 402. That’s a real groundswell pulse, but it’s still arriving with a moderate cross-onshore wind. For a beach and reef setup like Playa El Agua, a long period swell like that, hitting a beach, tends to close out or run straight. And with that wind, it’s just not going to offer much.

The rest of the run into late August is just more of the same – small, short-period slop with the easterly wind ruining it. We see a little bump on the 25th and 26th, up to 5 ft with 7-second periods and energy creeping towards 189, but again, it’s cross-on or onshore and labelled poor.

Honestly, if you’ve got a kite, this whole window might look interesting with that consistent side-shore wind and some decent swell energy at times. But for a paddle surfer, it’s a write-off. The conditions are that stubborn. The forecasts can always change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, save your energy. This one’s a lemon.
