The Lowdown
Right, I'm gonna level with ya, any surfer scanning this for the next couple of weeks at Pico Teneriffe is in for a rough time. The juice just isn't here. The east-northeast trade winds are gonna be parked onshore, blowing at 12 to 22 mph, turning what could be a clean swell into a choppy, lumpy mess day after day. The combined energy of all swells directed here is moderate at best, hitting 145 on the first morning, but it's all cross-onshore and ugly.
Thursday the 16th starts with a 4 ft swell from the ENE, period 7 seconds – small, weak, and bumpy. That's a write-off. Friday the 17th sees a jump to 6 ft from the east, but the wind is a fresh 22 mph cross-on, so it's just lumpy, blown-out junk. The swell hangs around at 7 ft to 8 ft over the weekend of the 18th and 19th, with solid energy readings in the 500s to 600s, but the wind doesn't let up. It's a battleground out there, and unless you're on a kite, it's not worth paddling for.
The whole first week is a bust. From Thursday the 16th right through to Wednesday the 23rd, every single entry says "poor surf conditions." There's a brief moment on the afternoon of Thursday the 23rd where the wind swings onshore from the NNE at 16 mph, and the swell drops to 3 ft with a period of 9 seconds – but it's still not clean, and the energy is weak.
The second week, from the 24th of July onwards, doesn't get any better. More east wind, more chop, and a few days with a risk of thunderstorms. The swell gets a bit bigger around the 26th, hitting 6 ft, but it's still cross-onshore. The only real standout in terms of size is the morning of the 31st of July, when the swell jumps to 10 ft from the east with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy of all swells directed here hits a very strong 1595. But right there in the data, it says "poor surf conditions" with a fresh cross-onshore wind. That's a big, powerful, messy wave only for the experts, and even then, it's going to be a battle.
Honestly, there's nothing good to recommend here. The whole 16-day window is a blank run. For this area, a stretch of persistent onshore trade winds is pretty normal, so don't be too surprised. The forecasts can change, but right now, leave the boards at home.
