The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again, but I’ll use the old measurements this time. It’s looking like a long, slow period for waves, so don’t rush to wax up.

Right now and for the next week, it’s a bust. The wind is howling from the SE and ruining everything. The first few days show a solid 8ft swell from the SW with a long 16-second period, but the cross-onshore breeze has it all torn up and choppy. The combined energy is strong, around 3974, but it’s not worth paddling out for. This mess continues through the weekend and into the start of September. By Sunday the 30th, the wind gets even stronger, making conditions poor. This run of bad conditions holds through to the 7th of September.

The one bright spot in this 16-day forecast is on Friday the 11th of September. We’ll see another pulse of 8ft swell from the SSW with a 16-second period. The combined energy will be pumping at around 3938. It’s still not perfect, with moderate cross-onshore winds, but it’s the best we’ll see. This is a long-range call, so keep an eye on it. Then on Saturday the 12th, the swell jumps to 10ft from the SSW with a very long 18-second period. That’s a big, powerful groundswell, and it’s only for experts. With the cross-onshore wind, it’ll be a real handful.

The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual. Just a lot of waiting for the wind to swing around.

Hang in there. It’s a rough spell, but forecasts can change.

Rusty.
