The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let's get into it.
The next couple of weeks are a bit of a slow burn at Ekas-Outside, but there’s a solid pulse of long-period groundswell coming through. The water temp is sitting at a normal 79°, perfect for a long session without a wetsuit. The combined swell energy is starting off moderate but builds to something much more exciting.
We’re looking at a bit of a lull to kick things off. The surf on Monday the 24th is around the 7ft from the SSW, with a very long 16-second period. The problem is a strong cross-off wind at 15-19 mph and the call is "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions", so it’s not going to be that clean or organized. It stays like this through Tuesday and Wednesday, with similar 6-5ft SSW swell and that stiff cross-off wind. The combined energy is still moderate (1226 to 1095), but the wind is just keeping it bumpy. It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but not the standout.
The first real standout arrives on Friday the 28th. We get a jump in swell size to 8ft from the SSW, with a 17-second period. The combined energy rockets up to 4123, which is strong. The wind drops to a moderate 12 mph cross-off, which is better. This is a powerful, long-period groundswell that will love the reef setup here. That 8ft is on the cusp for beginners – it’s deep into intermediate-expert territory. The wave quality is noted as "clean". For the experienced surfer, Friday morning is the pick of the week.
After that, things settle back down. Saturday and Sunday the 30th see the swell drop to 6-5ft and the energy falls off (1691 to 948). The wind stays a moderate cross-off. It’s still fun but a noticeable step down from Friday’s peak.
Looking into the first week of September, there’s another pulse. On Tuesday the 1st of September, the swell picks back up to a solid 7ft from the SW with a 17-second period, and the energy is back up to 2541. Winds are a moderate 16 mph from the SSE. Again, strong and clean, but the wind isn't glassy. This is a promising second act, but being a week out, let’s call it hopeful rather than certain. The pattern holds through Wednesday the 2nd with similar size and a gentle breeze on the morning session.
From the 3rd of September onward, we settle into a consistent but smaller run of 5-6ft SSW swell. The energy drops back into the moderate range (1530 down to 975). The wind sticks to that moderate cross-off pattern. It’s consistent, clean surf, but nothing that’s going to blow your mind.
So, to boil it down: Friday the 28th of August is your gem – that 8ft SSW groundswell with strong energy is the one to circle. The 1st and 2nd of September have a similar pulse but are less certain. The rest of the window is leg-shredding, consistent, medium-energy surf that you’ll have to work for.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
