Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ekas-Outside over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a solid run of swell on the way, but it’s not all clean and perfect. The standout window is definitely around the 21st and 22nd, with some real quality on offer. Let’s ease into it.
The pattern kicks off with a building swell. Saturday 11th sees a solid 6 ft SW groundswell at Ekas-Outside (Lombok), with a long period of 15 seconds, and the combined energy is a strong 1609. The cross-off wind from the ESE at 12 mph keeps it reasonably clean, but the forecast is a bit marginal, so it’s not the day to get too excited. It’s a beginner-friendly reef break, so if you’re learning, the size is manageable.
Sunday 12th is a bit of a letdown. The swell drops to 4 ft, still SW and 13 seconds, but the wind picks up to 16 mph from the SE. The combined energy drops to 696, and it’s looking a bit messy. Not your best weekend session.
Monday 13th is a weird one. We’ve got a tiny 1 ft SSW swell, but with a ridiculously long 23-second period. The combined energy is 563. That long period means it’ll be fat and slow, more suited to the reef than a beach break. The wind is a light 9 mph, but the size is just too small for a proper wave.
Now, Tuesday 14th sees the swell start to punch up. We’re looking at 6 ft SSW groundswell with a 17-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 2381. The wind is cross-off from the ESE at 12 mph, and it’s clean. This is the start of the good stuff, but the tide might be a factor, so keep an eye on it.
The real fire comes on Wednesday 15th. The swell hits 7 ft from the SSW, period at 16 seconds, and the combined energy is a powerful 2546. The wind is still cross-off from the SE at 16 mph. For experienced surfers, this is a solid, punchy day. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The energy holds through Thursday 16th and Friday 17th, with 6 ft and 5 ft SW swells, but the wind stays fresh from the SE, making it a bit choppy. The combined energy is still in the 1200-1500 range, so there’s plenty of water moving, but the quality is just okay.
The weekend of 18th and 19th is a bit of a wash. The swell is 5 ft, but the wind is a solid 19 mph from the SE. Combined energy is around 1000-1800, but it’s a battle. The beach setup might be more fun for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, to be honest.
Now, here’s the standout. Monday 20th brings a big 8 ft SSW swell with a 17-second period, and the combined energy is a massive 3580. This is a big, powerful swell, and it’s only for experts. The wind is 16 mph from the SE, so it’s not glassy, but it’s manageable.
But the absolute best of the bunch is Tuesday 21st. The morning has 6 ft SSW groundswell, 15-second period, and the combined energy is 1722. The wind drops to a gentle 9 mph from the SE, and it’s clean. The forecast calls it excellent for experienced surfers. This is the day to be in the water. The reef at Ekas-Outside will handle the long period perfectly, and the crowds are only sometimes, so you might get a few sets to yourself.
Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd are also decent. The swell drops to 4 ft on the 22nd, but the wind is a light 9 mph, making for very clean, fun waves. The 23rd brings a short-period 6 ft SE swell, but the wind is only 6 mph, so it’s glassy and fun.
The tail end of the forecast, from the 24th to the 26th, is smaller. There’s a 3 ft SSW swell on the 24th with a 16-second period, and light winds, but the energy is dropping. By the 26th, it’s back to 3 ft and moderate wind.
So, bottom line: Forget the early weekend. Tuesday 21st is your ticket. It’s the best blend of size, clean wind, and quality. The 15th is also a big, powerful day for the experienced crew. Keep an eye on the tide, and get out there.
Rusty.
