Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Ekas-Outside. We’ve got a stretch of clean, consistent surf comin’ through, but it’s a mixed bag of quality across the next couple of weeks.
We kick off on Tuesday, July 7, with the first surf on offer. The water’s warm at 82°, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year – no major anomaly there. The swell is a solid 5 ft from the SW, with a long 15-second period. That’s a proper groundswell, so expect longer lulls between sets but better-shaped waves. The wind is a cross-off from the SE at 19 mph, keeping things clean on the face. The combined energy is moderate at 936, but the forecast calls it marginal, so it’s not firing just yet.
Wednesday, July 8, sees the swell bump up. Morning brings 6 ft from the SW, still with that 15-second period, and the energy jumps right up to 1943 – now we’re talkin’ moderate to strong. The wind stays cross-off, but it’s a bit stronger in the arvo at 22 mph. Still clean, but the rating’s low. Thursday, July 9, holds steady around 7 ft from the SSW, with a similar 15-second period. The wind eases a touch in the morning to 16 mph, but it’s still cross-off. Energy peaks at 2159, so there’s plenty of grunt in the water.
Now, for a standout, I’m lookin’ at Saturday morning, July 11. Swell’s a bit smaller at 5 ft from the SW, 15-second period, but the wind drops to a lighter cross-off from the ESE at 12 mph. Energy is still solid at 1505, and it’s the best score of the run. That’s the pick of the first week – clean, punchy waves without the wind howling. It’s a bit much for beginners at that size, but for anyone with a bit of experience, it’s worth paddlin’ out. Ekas-Outside is a reef break, so it handles that long-period swell nicely. Crowds are listed as “sometimes,” so you might have a few out, but not packed.
Sunday, July 12, drops right off. Morning swell only 3 ft, 14-second period, and energy down to 538. It’s got good surf conditions, but it’s small. The rest of the week starts to pick up again, with Monday, July 13, offerin’ 4 ft, and the energy buildin’ back to 708.
Then we hit another real standout. Tuesday, July 14, morning brings 4 ft but from the SSW with a super-long 19-second period. That’s a very long-period groundswell – which means epic shape at a reef break like this, but expect long waits between sets. The energy is a strong 2177. The wind is a cross-off from the SE at 16 mph, so it’s clean. This is the best on offer across the whole forecast, but it’s over a week away, so treat it as a promising long-range call.
The following week tails off. Thursday, July 16, is 5 ft with 15-second period, but energy drops under 1000. By Monday, July 20, it’s down to poor surf conditions, and Tuesday, July 21, is also poor – a real dry patch. Wednesday, July 22, limps back with tiny 3 ft to 3 ft and weak energy, so you’re basically lookin’ at a blank run from the 20th onwards.
Bottom line: the first week has a clear standout on Saturday morning, July 11, for clean, solid waves. Then keep your eye on Tuesday, July 14, for that super-long period groundswell. After that, it’s a long gap of not much to get excited about.
