Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ekas-Outside over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the coming weeks at Ekas-Outside.
We've got a solid run of swell on the way, but it's a bit of a tricky one. The water's sitting at a balmy 82°F right now, which is pretty average for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there.
The first recommendation kicks off on Wednesday, July 8th. The swell is already up around 6ft to 7ft, a nice SSW groundswell with a long 15-second period, packing some serious energy (combined energy of all swells directed here 1811 to 2047). That's strong stuff. However, the wind is a cross-off from the SE, blowing 19 to 22 mph. That wind is the problem; it's keeping the quality down despite all that power. The size is also getting up there, over 5ft, so it's not for the groms.
This pattern pretty much holds through the week. Thursday and Friday (July 9th & 10th) keep serving up 6ft to 7ft SSW swell with that lovely 15 to 16-second period. The energy stays strong (1761 to 2178). But that fresh cross-off wind just won't let up. The waves will be there, but they'll be wind-affected. It's still clean surf, but not the pristine glass you're after.
Now, the standout window for this whole period looks to be the morning of Sunday, July 12th. The wind finally eases back to a light breeze from the ESE at 6 mph. The swell drops to 4ft from the SW with a 13-second period, and the energy eases to a moderate 773. It's not the biggest, but those light winds will make it super clean and the reef will handle that long-period energy nicely. This is the session to aim for. The morning of Monday, July 13th is also worth a mention with a gentle breeze and 3ft of clean SW swell.
We then see a pulse of bigger, long-period energy around Tuesday, July 14th through Wednesday, July 15th. Swell bumps back up to 6ft to 6ft from the SSW with 16-18 second periods. The combined energy rockets back up to 1822 to 2523. But again, that fresh cross-off wind is the main talking point. At over 5ft and with that long period, it's expert territory on a reef, so don't be a hero if you're not one.
The second week remains surfable but nothing spectacular. It's a steady diet of 5ft to 5ft SW/SSW swell with moderate cross-off breezes from the SE. The energy stays moderate (882 to 1226). A few sessions have a gentle breeze, like Saturday morning, July 18th, but nothing that screams must-surf.
There's another bigger pulse building for the morning of Thursday, July 23rd. The forecast shows 6ft SSW swell, a gentle breeze and conditions described as excellent for experienced surfers. That's the best call in the second week, but we're out past the reliable forecast window, so keep an eye on it.
If the wind doesn't ease up on those bigger days, this setup looks more interesting for kite-surfing than a relaxed paddle session. The cross-off winds and strong, clean swell will be a dream for them.
The standout call is the morning of Sunday, July 12th. Get on it.
Rusty.
