Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ekas-Outside over the next 16 days.

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a chat about what's on the table for the next couple of weeks. We're looking at a run of solid, consistent SW groundswell hitting Ekas-Outside – a reef setup that's pretty exposed to the swell and fairly consistent. It's a beginner-friendly wave, but don't let that fool you; when the size picks up, it'll sort the men from the boys.

The water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, so nothing freaky there – just normal July conditions.

The opening days are a bit slow. Sunday morning the 12th kicks off with a clean 3ft swell from the SW, period a long 13 seconds, giving us moderate energy (664). The wind is cross-off from the ESE at 9 mph, so it'll be clean, but the size is small. It's a gentle start, nothing to get too excited about. We then have a few days where the swell is small and inconsistent, with a long period groundswell that might make the waves a bit too straight on this reef. The wind stays cross-off, but the energy is low.

The real story starts to build from Tuesday the 14th. We see the swell jumping to 6ft from the SSW on Tuesday morning, with a 17-second period. That's proper groundswell energy, showing moderate-to-strong energy (2363). The wind is still cross-off, but it's a moderate breeze. The size is getting up there, but it's still manageable for a confident beginner.

Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th hold that 5 to 7ft range, with the swell staying clean. The energy is strong (over 1000). The wind is a bit of a factor, staying fresh from the SE, keeping things cross-off and clean. This is where it starts to get interesting for a surfer who wants a bit of push.

Now, Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th see the swell settle back slightly, still in the 5ft zone, but the wind is still fresh. The energy is still moderate-to-strong. It's surfable, but you're going to be working for it.

The standout is shaping up for the end of the second week. Sunday the 19th brings a pulse: 6ft from the SSW with a 19-second period – that's a very long period groundswell. The energy is very strong (3305). The wind is cross-off, but it's a fresh breeze. This is a big, powerful swell for the reef.

Then we hit the peak. Monday the 20th is the big one for the experts. The morning shows 8ft from the SSW with a 17-second period. That's a lot of water moving. The energy is very strong (3780). The wind is a moderate cross-off. This is a solid, expert-only day. The size is over 8ft, so if you're not on your game, stay out of the way.

Tuesday the 21st morning is the best of the bunch for the experienced surfer. The swell drops to a still-solid 6ft, the period is a long 15 seconds, and the wind drops to a light cross-off from the SE at 6 mph. The energy is strong (1675). This is the cleanest, most powerful, and most manageable size of the whole run. The conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers, and I'd agree. That's the one to circle on the calendar.

After that, we see a drop-off in size, but the wind turns offshore on Wednesday the 22nd morning. The swell is 5ft from the SSW, period 13 seconds, with a light E wind at 6 mph. That's glassy and clean, with moderate energy (793). It's a good chance for a smaller, clean session, but the power is gone.

The run fades into the end of the period, with the swell dropping further. The last few days, like the 26th and 27th, see the swell building back up again – 8ft with very strong energy (4660) on the 26th morning – but the wind is a moderate cross-off. It's a promising end to the forecast, but it's a long way out, so keep an eye on it.

Overall, the best bet is Tuesday the 21st morning for a solid, clean, powerful session. The other big standout is Monday the 20th for the experts who want a serious challenge. The rest of the period is a solid run of clean, cross-off conditions, but the size and wind aren't always perfect.

Rusty.
