The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, but we’ll do it in feet and miles per hour. So the whole picture: we’ve got a long run of SW groundswell, but the wind is going to mess with it most of the time. Water temp is 27°, normal for this time of year.
The first real gem is Friday afternoon, the 17th. Benete is showing a clean 5ft SW swell with a 16-second period, the wind is cross-offshore at 6 mph, and the energy is strong (1282). This is a reef and point break that rarely breaks, so it’s a special one when it lines up. It’s advanced, and you might see a few others out. That Friday arvo is your best early call.
Saturday the 18th has the swell holding at 5ft, but the wind is more cross, so not as clean. Saturday afternoon cleans up a touch with the lighter breeze.
Now for the end of the forecast window. Thursday, the 30th of July afternoon brings a clean 4ft swell from the SW, but the period is a massive 20 seconds. The energy reads 1548 – that’s huge power for that size. Light cross-off wind, clean faces. That’s excellent for experienced surfers. Then Friday, the 31st of July morning has a 6ft SW swell, 18-second period, and energy at 3619 – that’s a lot of juice. Winds are light cross, so it's not perfect. But Friday afternoon, the wind swings cross-off and the swell jumps to 7ft. At that size, it’s expert-only, but the quality is top-notch. That’s your best call for a big, clean, powerful session if you’re up for it.
In between, there’s a lot of cross-shore wind and moderate chop. The second week drops into shorter-period SE windswell around 6ft down to 3ft, with more wind and less consistency. The gap after the 31st is flat and messy. So you want to hit Friday the 17th for clean lines, and then the 30th and 31st for the real heavy stuff – but know your limits on that last one.
Rusty.
