Table - best surf conditions forecast for Benete over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, checkin’ in from the island. The long-range picture is a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a couple of solid windows if you’re patient. We’ve got a real standout on the cards early, and then a few promising late swings.
The pick of the whole 16-day run is Benete, a reef and point setup that’s a rare breaker. It’s an advanced spot, and it doesn’t come alive often, so when it does, you pay attention. The action kicks off Saturday, July 11th. The morning starts with a clean 5ft SW groundswell, with a very long 15-second period, and light cross-shore winds. The combined energy is pumping at 1437 (moderate-to-strong). The water’s sitting at 82°, which is about average for the time of year. By Saturday afternoon, the waves drop slightly to 5ft, but the wind goes cross-offshore and it’s looking clean. Sunday morning, July 12th, is your best bet early on – a glassy 3ft SW swell, long 14-second period, with barely a whisper of wind. The energy is 558 (moderate). It’s small, but it’ll be perfect for the board when it’s this clean. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.
The real standout is a solid pulse that arrives Monday, July 13th, into Tuesday, July 14th. Monday afternoon sees a 3ft SSW swell, but it’s got a very long 21-second period, clean cross-offshore winds, and an energy rating of 868 (moderate). It’s a sneaky good session. Then Tuesday, July 14th, is the big one. The swell jumps to 6ft in the morning, then 7ft in the afternoon, both from the SSW, with a long 17- and 18-second period respectively. The energy is huge – 2201 and 2512 (strong). The wind is light and cross-shore, keeping it rideable. This is a solid, powerful groundswell, and at over 5ft, it’s getting into the territory where beginners might struggle. For a rare-breaking spot like this, it’s a gift.
The middle of the week from Wednesday, July 15th, through to Sunday, July 19th, sees solid swell hanging around (4ft to 7ft), but the wind is mostly cross-shore with a bit of chop, and the reports are calling it marginal. The energy stays strong (over 1000 most of the time), but the quality isn’t there for paddling. It’s a bit of a waiting game.
Then there’s a quiet spot on Thursday, July 23rd, when the swell drops to 5ft but from SE with a short 7-second period and poor conditions. Not worth paddling out.
The next promising window opens Monday, July 20th, with a big 8ft SSW swell, strong energy (3257), but moderate cross-shore winds. It’s big, powerful, and over 8ft, so it’s for experts only. Then Tuesday, July 21st, brings a slight drop to 6ft, and the afternoon sees cross-offshore winds with good conditions. Wednesday, July 22nd, has a clean 4ft SSW swell with cross-offshore winds in the afternoon and energy at 677 (moderate). That’s a nice little session.
The real late standout is Saturday, July 25th, and Sunday, July 26th. Saturday afternoon has a clean 5ft SSW swell, long 15-second period, cross-offshore winds, and energy at 1320 (strong). Sunday afternoon is smaller at 4ft, but still a clean cross-offshore breeze. Both are solid, clean options, though the swell is a bit over a week away, so the forecast is less certain.
Overall, the best bets are the glassy Sunday morning, July 12th, for clean small waves, and the big Tuesday, July 14th, for a powerful, rare session. The late July 25th run is also worth keeping an eye on. Stay patient, and get it when it’s glassy.
Rusty.
