Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mawi over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s check out what Mawi’s got lined up.
First real surf shows up Wednesday the 8th of July. After that, we’ve got waves rollin’ through for a while, but it’s a bit of a mixed story. The first week brings steady cross-off winds from the SE and ESE, keeping the surface clean, but that fresh breeze is always there, so don’t expect glass. Water temp’s about 82°, pretty average for this time of year, so no surprises.
The real standout—best on offer—is the morning of Sunday the 12th of July. Swell drops to 4ft from the SW with a nice long 13-second period, combined energy moderate at 584, and the wind goes light. That’s gonna be smooth, clean, and the long period means proper shape and power on the reef. This is the one to aim for. Expect a few others in the water, as crowds are possible at Mawi.
Before that, from Wednesday afternoon the 8th through Saturday the 11th, we’ve got solid swell size—5ft to 7ft from the SSW/SW—but those fresh cross-off winds (19–22 mph) make conditions marginal. Periods run 14–16 seconds, and combined energy is strong, hitting 2322 on the Wednesday afternoon. It’s doable but not pristine.
After Sunday, Monday the 13th sees smaller surf around 3–4ft, lighter breezes, but energy drops to 501–982. Clean but lacking punch.
Tuesday the 14th brings a spike: 6ft from the SSW with a very long 18-second period, energy at 2294–2554, but that fresh wind comes back. Long period at a reef break like Mawi could be excellent if the wind eases—not forecast to though.
The next true standout is the morning of Saturday the 18th: 5ft SW swell, 15-second period, light breeze, energy 1198. Excellent for experienced surfers. Then Sunday the 19th morning: 5ft SW, 14-second period, light wind, energy 1425. That Sunday morning is another gem—clean, punchy, and well-shaped.
Monday the 20th jumps to 8ft from SW, 16-second period, energy 2971, with moderate wind. Big wave session for experts only. Tuesday the 21st hits 8ft from SSW, 17-second period, strong energy of 3991—strictly for those who know what they’re doing, and the fresh wind makes it a grind.
The last few days, Wednesday the 22nd through Thursday the 23rd, drop to 7–8ft with shorter periods (13–16 seconds) and fresh cross-off winds. Energy fades from 2563 to 1243. Surfable, but nothing special.
Beginner surfers should steer clear when it’s over 5ft, and anything over 8ft is expert-only. Best bets are the mornings of Sunday the 12th and Sunday the 19th—clean, light winds, and proper waves.
Rusty out.
