The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this outlook for Marseille - Colombet is a tough one. The next 16 days are looking flat, blown out, or just plain messy. There’s no surf on offer that’s worth getting excited about. The entire period is a write-off for paddle surfing.
Right now, it’s pretty grim. The water is sitting at 76°F which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only encouraging thing. We start on Thursday afternoon the 3rd of September with a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, but it’s a weak 4-second period and cross-shore wind is making it choppy. The combined energy is just 8 (weak). It’s a no-go.
Friday the 4th gives us a glassy morning, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7ft. You’d be floating more than surfing. The energy is a measly 1. Then Saturday the 5th gets a bit of breeze, and Sunday the 6th is glassy again but with only 1ft of swell. It’s just not happening.
We see a spike in energy on the 9th of September—Wednesday morning the swell hits 6ft from the NW with a 6-second period. The combined energy jumps to 224 (moderate wave energy). But don’t be fooled. The wind is a near gale at 37 mph, cross-shore, creating a total mess. Poor surf conditions. That’s kite surfing territory, not for a paddle board.
The rest of the run is more of the same: tiny swells, short periods, and often unfavourable wind. Thursday the 10th gives a glassy morning with 3ft, but it’s weak and short-period. Friday the 11th has a clean cross-offshore wind but the swell is only 2ft. The 12th of September shows a bit more size at 4ft from the NW, but it’s cross-shore wind and the energy is only 66 (weak). It’s inconsistent and rarely breaks here anyway, so a blank run like this is more normal for this spot.
There are no standouts. No hidden gems. The best you could hope for is a glassy, small wave session on the 10th or 16th mornings, but it’s not worth the paddle. The only thing consistent here is the lack of quality. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board at home or find a different hobby for the next couple of weeks.
