Table - best surf conditions forecast for Charpencaye over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get real about the next couple of weeks at Charpencaye.
Well, the honest truth is, looking at the whole 16-day window, there’s not much to get excited about. The swell is coming in from a pretty poor direction, and the wind just won’t play ball. This forecast is a bit of a bummer, because normally this spot can handle a bit of east swell, but with the wind hammering it from the same direction day after day, it’s gonna be a choppy, messy mess.
From Thursday the 9th right through to the end of the run on Friday the 24th of July, every single day is rated as poor surf conditions. There’s no standout, no hidden gem window. The combined swell energy is in the moderate range, hitting between 630 and 727 in the first few days, but it’s all coming from the east with a short period of just 8 seconds. That is pure windswell, lacking any real power or shape.
The wind is the real killer here. Every session is cross-onshore, from the east or east-northeast, blowing at 16 to 19 mph for most of the first two weeks. That’s a moderate to fresh breeze, keeping the surface lumpy and choppy. Even around the 15th and 23rd of July, when the wind backs off a little to a gentle breeze and shifts to a cross-shore direction, the swell is just too weak and short-period to make anything of it.
Because there’s no good surf on offer, I’ll just give you the context. The water temperature is sitting at 83°F with an anomaly of +0.5°F, which is pretty much average for this time of year.
From July 9th all the way until the end of the 16-day run, it's a consistent run of poor conditions. This is a reef break that can handle east swell, but with the wind never letting up, you’d be wrestling with chop all day. For a beginner, the waves are around 5 ft to 8 ft for the first 10 days, which is more than enough to be intimidating in these ugly conditions. After the 20th of July, the swell drops below 5 ft, but the wind still messes it up.
This is one of those forecasts where you save the energy and wait for a better swell direction. The setup here isn't working for paddle surfing at all. Honestly, with that consistent cross-onshore wind and decent sized choppy waves, a kitesurfer might have a ball here.
Rusty.
