Bauang Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be honest right off the bat: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a proper surf at Bauang. We’ve got a long stretch of small, junky waves and cross-shore winds that are going to have you fighting the chop more than riding it. The water temp is sitting at 86°, which is about normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a wetsuit.

The first week is a total write-off. From Tuesday the 5th through to Monday the 11th, we’re looking at poor surf conditions across the board. There’s some swell around, but it’s short-period slop, mostly coming from the west and northwest, with a lot of cross and cross-onshore wind. The energy is weak, mostly in the 100s (102-211), which doesn’t translate to any push. You’ll see waves in the 1ft to 5ft range, but they’ll be fat, crumbly, and messy. Forget about it.

We’re talking a solid 10-day gap with no surf on offer. It’s a painful stretch where the only thing breaking is the consistency of the poor conditions. The wind is a constant problem, and the swell direction is all over the place, never matching the southwest optimum this break loves.

The second week doesn’t get much better until the tail end. From Tuesday the 12th through to Monday the 18th, it’s more of the same—small, weak, cross-shore junk. The swell stays sub-3ft, and the energy drops off into the 20s and 30s. There’s a glimmer on Tuesday the 19th with a bit more energy (141-155), and the wind turns more offshore, but the waves are still only 2ft to 4ft. It’s a cleaner option, but not a standout.

The real, only potential highlight is on Wednesday the 20th. The morning pushes up to 6ft from the southwest, with the energy jumping to 226. It’s still junky period at 6 seconds, but the wind is light. The afternoon looks better with a 3ft west-northwest swell, a solid 11-second period, and a big energy jump to 343. This is the one to watch, a long-period groundswell that could actually wrap in and offer some shape. It’s a beginner break, and 6ft is right at the edge for that, but with light winds, it could be the best we see. For a spot that’s usually consistent, this long blank run is a real bummer, but you know how it goes—forecasts can change. Keep an eye on that 20th.
