Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Tauranga Bay has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. It's a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest.
The overall pattern is one of changeable conditions. We’ve got a few periods of messy, wind-affected swell, but there are some windows of clean surf on the horizon. The water temperature is sitting at 62.4°F, which is about average for this time of year, nothing to worry about there.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Tuesday afternoon, July 7th. After a couple of days of junk, the wind swings offshore from the south at just 3 mph, cleaning things right up. We’ll see a 5.9ft swell from the north, but it’s a short-period wind swell at 8 seconds, so it'll be a bit bumpy and not the most powerful. The wave energy is moderate (544). It’s a good little window for beginners, as the size is manageable, and the conditions will be clean.
The standout of the forecast is Friday, July 10th. This is the one to circle. We get a clean 4.6ft swell from the east-southeast, with a 10-second period, giving it a bit more push. The south wind will be light offshore at 6 mph all morning and afternoon, keeping the faces smooth. The wave energy is solid at 337. This is prime Tauranga Bay conditions – clean, fun-sized waves that are perfect for a long session. This is your day.
After that, things drop off again. We see a few mornings with small 2.3ft to 3ft swells and clean offshore winds on Saturday the 11th, Sunday the 12th, and Monday the 13th, but the energy is low, between 92 and 137. It’s surfable for a longboard or a foamie, but it’s not going to be anything to write home about.
We then hit a real flat spell for a few days. From Tuesday the 14th through to the end of the week, it’s either tiny, wind-blown junk or just no swell at all. There is a pulse of big, messy swell on the 15th and 16th (up to 8.2ft), but it comes with strong onshore or cross-shore winds, making it a complete mess. That one is for the kite surfers, not the paddle crew.
Looking further out, there’s another chance for a clean session on Friday morning, July 17th. It’s a long-range promise, so less certain, but it shows a 3ft easterly swell with a light 6 mph offshore southwest wind. The energy is moderate at 302. Keep an eye on it, but don't book the day off just yet.
After that, the forecast goes quiet again with no real recommendations for the remaining days. It’s one of those periods where you have to pick your window.
Stay stoked.
