The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for the next couple of weeks for this spot. We're only lookin' at one break on the cards, so all eyes are on the one.
So, the story for the whole forecast period is a bit of a tough one. For the first ten days, from now through to the end of August, the wind is just relentless out of the east, blowing straight across the face of the wave. It's not looking good, and the wave energy is weak to moderate at best, ranging from (237) up to a brief spike of (744). The swell direction is all east-northeast, with short-period, choppy lines around 3 ft to 7 ft. This ain't the Soup Bowl we dream of; it's a lumpy, cross-onshore mess.
Soup Bowl (21st August – 30th August)
Honestly, it's a write-off. The wind is a steady 16 to 22 mph from the east, making for fresh cross-onshore and lumpy conditions every single day. The swell is short-period (mostly 7-8 seconds), so there's no power or shape to it. The water temp is about average for this time of year, but you won't care about that when you're getting blown off your board. This stretch is for the diehards only, and honestly, it looks more set up for kite-surfing than proper paddle surfing.
A Glimmer of Hope (31st August)
Monday the 31st of August is the one real standout in the whole outlook. The wind finally drops right back to a light breeze at 6 mph. We're still stuck with a cross-onshore direction, but the surface will be much cleaner, just with small wind ripples. The swell comes in at 6 ft to 6 ft from the east, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a moderate (443) to (507). It's the best we've got by a long shot, but it's still "marginal surf." It's a quiet-looking wave, but with the drop in wind, you might find a few rippable shoulders if you pick your time. The swell direction is pretty much right on the money for optimum (*NE*), even if the quality is only so-so.
Back to the Grind (1st September – 5th September)
After that brief respite, we sink back into the pattern. The wind picks up again to 12-19 mph from the east, with moderate to fresh cross-onshore winds. Swell holds around 5 ft to 7 ft from east-northeast, but the period stays short and the wave energy is moderate (222 to 551). By the 4th and 5th of September, we're looking at 7 ft of lumpy, cross-onshore junk again. No good.
So, bottom line: there's no classic Soup Bowl in this forecast. The only day that's even worth a mention is the 31st of August. It's not going to be epic, but it'll be the tidiest the place gets. Get on it early if you can, because the rest is a bumpy, windy grind.
Rusty.
