Table - best surf conditions forecast for Silencios over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll level with you, this stretch we’ve got coming up is a long, quiet road for the most part. We’re looking at Silencios, a reef break, and for the bulk of the next week and a half, the surf is just going through the motions. The good news is, there’s a real standout morning tucked away at the end of the first week, but you’ll need to be patient.
The overall pattern is dominated by inconsistent, marginal conditions. From Saturday, July 11, right through to Saturday, July 18, we’re looking at a gap of about eight days where the surf is less than exciting. The swell is hanging around 3 ft to 5 ft, mostly from the SSW, with a moderate amount of energy in the water. The wind is light, but it’s consistently a cross-onshore breeze, which is putting a bit of texture on the surface. It’s not blown out, but it’s not clean, either. The water temp is a notable 69 °F, which is much warmer than what’s normal for this time of year.
Now, the real bright spot. On Sunday morning, July 19, we’ve got a genuine window of opportunity. The swell bumps up to 6 ft from the SW, with a period of 13 seconds, giving it some real grunt. The wind is glassy—dead calm, offshore—so the surface is going to be like a mirror. This is a solid, clean swell for an intermediate surfer. The only thing to keep in mind is that Silencios is an inconsistent break, so you might have to wait for the sets, but when they come, they’ll be worth it. Expect some crowds as it’s often busy.
After that Sunday morning high, the wind switches back to a cross-onshore by the afternoon, and the swell quality drops off. The following week sees the swell fade back down to 2 ft to 4 ft, with a very long period (24s, then 21s) on the 23rd and 24th of July. That groundswell has good energy for its size, but it’s breaking straight and won’t offer much shape for this reef. It’s more of a tease than a real session.
So, to wrap it up: the best on offer is Sunday morning, July 19. Get in early, the water’s unseasonably warm, and the glassy conditions will make it shine. The rest of the 16 days is a flat spell with a few tiny, messy waves that aren’t worth chasing.
Rusty.
