The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on offer for Silencios over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough outlook. Silencios is an inconsistent reef break, and the whole forecast period is littered with poor conditions. The water's sitting at 69°, which is much warmer than we'd usually see at this time of year.

We start off with a real gap here. From Saturday the 12th of September all the way through to Friday the 18th, it's a write-off. We're looking at small 2ft to 3ft SW swells, but the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, turning everything choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out for.

The first real flicker of hope shows up on Saturday the 19th of September, in the afternoon. We get a tiny 3ft SW swell with glassy conditions. The wind goes glass, the combined energy is moderate at 337, and the period is a solid 11 seconds. It's small, but it'll be clean. The problem is, this break is inconsistent and crowds are possible, so if the stars align, it won't be a secret. That Saturday arvo is your best bet, but manage expectations.

After that, we sink back into a long stretch of poor surf. From the 20th of September right through to the 27th of September, the story is the same – small SW to SSW swells, mostly onshore or cross-onshore breezes, and the energy levels drop off. There's a couple of mornings with 3ft to 4ft SSW swell, like the 23rd of September, but the period is a short 8 seconds and the wind is onshore, so it's just not going to shape up.

Forget about the second week being any different. It's the same tune: small, poor conditions, and no real standout. If you're desperate, that Saturday afternoon is the only time the conditions might let you have a few clean ones. Otherwise, you're looking at a pretty blank run, which for an inconsistent spot like this, isn't surprising. The forecasts can always change, so keep an eye out, but right now, it's a waiting game.

Rusty.
