Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for the coming weeks.
The pattern is a bit of a slow burn with one clear standout window. There’s a gap right now before things get interesting. We’ve got no surf worth mentioning on the immediate horizon, so we’re looking at a quiet start.
The first real pulse of energy shows up on the morning of Saturday, July 5th. That’s when we see a solid SW groundswell roll in. The water temperature is sitting at 70°F which is about 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, almost like a bath out there.
The standout by a long shot is the Sunday morning session on July 6th at Silencios. We’ve got a clean 3ft SSW swell hitting with a 20-second period – that’s very long period groundswell, which means proper power and shape. The wind is light from the west, which is cross-on, but the sea state is described as having small wind ripples, so it’s not messy. The combined wave energy is a massive 1414 (moderate-to-strong energy). This is a reef break that’s inconsistent, so you’ll need to be patient, but the quality of this swell window is the best on offer. This is a rare, inconsistent spot lighting up, so mark it.
Monday, July 7th, the swell bumps up to 5ft from the SW with a 17-second period, still carrying a lot of energy (1484). The wind is light cross-on again. It’s a bit bigger, but it’s still clean. This is a good follow-up day.
After that, the surf slowly tapers. Tuesday, July 8th, sees swell drop to 5ft with a 16-second period, and the energy is down to 1018. Still surfable but not as punchy. The rest of that week and into the next, the swell hangs around 3ft to 5ft, but the period drops too, and the conditions are described as “marginal” or “poor” with cross-on breezes. It’s not a total write-off, but it’s not going to get your heart racing.
There’s a flicker of life again on Friday, July 18th, with a 4ft SSW swell and a 16-second period (1003 energy), but it’s still cross-on. The following Saturday, July 19th, has 5ft SSW swell with 14-second period and onshore winds, which is a bit lumpy. That’s a long-range call, so don’t book the trip just yet.
For the beginners out there, the swell stays under 5ft for most of the run, so it’s manageable. The only day it pushes over 5ft is on Monday, July 7th, and a couple of days in the second week, but those are still safe for confident intermediates.
Overall, your best bet is the Sunday and Monday of the first real weekend. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty.
