The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and quiet stretch ahead. The first decent bump doesn’t even show up until Sunday the 6th, and even then it’s not much to write home about. There’s a bit of a south-west groundswell coming in – about 4 ft with a 13 second period from the SW – but the wind is cross-on from the south at 6 mph, so the surface is gonna be a little rippled and messy. Combined wave energy is moderate at best (684). It’s really just marginal, and the tide might play tricks on you. Not the kind of thing that gets me out of bed.
Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th are similar – small, onshore, or cross-on winds, and the swell just doesn’t have any punch. The water temp is pretty average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there. By Wednesday the 9th, we’ve got some longer period (16 seconds) but the swell drops to 3 ft and the wind stays cross-on. The energy is moderate (643) but the quality is poor.
The whole run from the 6th right through to the 21st is basically a wasteland for decent surf. You’ll see a few pulses of longer-period swell (14 to 18 seconds) but they’re all accompanied by onshore or cross-onshore breezes, and the heights are mostly under 3 ft. Combined energy values hover between 124 and 791 – mostly moderate, but the conditions just kill it. The spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and this stretch lives up to that reputation.
If you’re desperate, the morning of Sunday the 6th is the least bad option – cleanish, light wind, but only 4 ft from the SW. It’s a reef break (Silencios) and it’s fairly exposed to that SW swell, so there might be a few workable waves if you’re patient. But don’t expect much.
Bottom line: there are no standout days in this 16-day window. It’s a quiet run, and that’s not unusual for this spot. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but right now I’d be finding something else to do.
Rusty.
