Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of swell lining up for Shipwrecks on Nusa Lembongan, so if you’ve been waiting for a window, this is it. The water’s sitting at about 82° – pretty much spot on for this time of year, nothing weird going on with the temp.
It kicks off Tuesday morning, July 7th, with a clean 4ft SSW groundswell bumping in at 16 seconds. That’s proper long-period energy, so expect nice shaped waves with long lulls between sets – perfect for a reef break like this. Winds are offshore from the SE at 16 mph, keeping the surface glassy. The combined swell energy is moderate at 759, and it’s got that clean, offshore feel. This is a consistent, advanced reef break, so you’ll want your wits about you, but it’s not overly big – good for those who know what they’re doing. Crowds can be an issue here sometimes, so early morning is your best bet.
Wednesday morning, July 8th, the swell pushes up to 6ft from the SSW, still a solid 15-second period, and the energy jumps right up to 1270 – that’s strong, powerful stuff. Still offshore ESE at 16 mph, and it’s clean. This is one of the standout sessions of the whole forecast: solid, punchy waves, nice shape, and that offshore wind making it all look like a postcard.
Thursday, July 9th, holds similar size – 6ft in the morning with a fresh offshore breeze from the ESE at 19 mph, but there’s a chance of rain showers. The afternoon cleans up again with 6ft and offshore SE wind. Friday, July 10th, keeps that 5ft to 5ft range going, mostly offshore, and plenty of energy (1307 to 1568) – another good day, especially the afternoon session.
Saturday, July 11th, backs off a little into the 4ft to 4ft range, but still offshore, still clean. Sunday, July 12th, drops right down – only 2ft to 3ft – so that’s a smaller day, but if you’ve got a longboard and the tide’s right, you might still get a fun one.
Now, Monday July 13th, the morning sees 3ft SSW, nothing special, but the afternoon? That’s where it gets interesting: a 2ft swell but with a 21-second period – that’s very long-period groundswell. At a reef like this, it’ll line up nicely, but don’t expect much power. The energy is moderate at 794.
Tuesday July 14th is a ripper. After a morning of 4ft with fresh offshore breeze, the afternoon delivers 6ft SSW at 18 seconds and the combined energy hits 2098 – that’s strong, muscular swell. Winds are offshore SE at 16 mph. If you can get out there Tuesday arvo, that’s your second standout pick. Conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers, and I’d agree – don’t miss it if you’re keen.
Wednesday July 15th stays solid with 5ft to 6ft, offshore winds, good energy. Thursday and Friday, July 16th and 17th, ease back into the 4ft to 5ft range – still clean, still surfable, but nothing that’ll blow your mind.
Then, Saturday July 18th – hold onto your board. Morning sees 7ft SSW at 17 seconds, afternoon hits 7ft at 16 seconds. The energy is through the roof – 2362 and 2349 – that’s very strong. Winds are offshore ESE at 12 mph in the morning, SE 16 mph in the arvo. This is big, powerful groundswell. At a reef break, it’ll be a heavy, serious wave. This is expert territory only – if you’re not comfortable in overhead, pumping reef waves, sit this one out. For those who are, it’s going to be epic.
Sunday July 19th drops back to a still-impressive 5ft to 6ft, and then the final week sees a slow fade through the 4ft to 5ft range, with winds mostly offshore or cross-offshore. By Wednesday July 22nd, the swell gets skinny – morning has a tiny 2ft pulse with a 20-second period, then afternoon picks up to 4ft at 18 seconds but with cross-offshore winds. It’s still surfable, but you’re scraping the barrel by then.
So overall, the best on offer are Wednesday July 8th morning and Tuesday July 14th afternoon, with Saturday July 18th as the big-wave specialist session for the brave. Don’t sleep on the mid-week options – the consistency here is solid.
Rusty.
