The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. We've got a solid run of swell coming in for Shipwrecks (Nusa Lembongan) over the next couple of weeks. This is a reef break for the advanced crew only, and it's looking really consistent. The water temp feels about average for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.

The week kicks off on Friday, August 21st, with a clean 5-foot SW groundswell rolling in at a solid 15 seconds. It's a bit on the smaller side, but the offshore SE breeze has it looking glassy – real nice start to the weekend. By the afternoon, the swell jumps to 7-foot from the SSW, period pushing 17 seconds. That's some serious groundswell energy (2577) and it's going to be fast and hollow on the reef. Only for the experienced, but if you're on it, you're in for a treat.

Saturday the 22nd keeps the good vibes rolling. Morning sees a clean 6-foot SSW swell with a moderate offshore breeze. The afternoon gets a bit tricky with a cross-off wind, dropping the quality a touch, but it's still a solid 6-foot.

Sunday the 23rd starts clean with a 6-foot SSW swell and light cross-off winds, but it gets more marginal by the afternoon as the wind picks up. Monday follows a similar pattern – clean in the morning, fading in the arvo. The energy is starting to dip a bit.

Tuesday the 25th brings a shift. Clean offshore winds return with a 5-5-foot SSW swell. It's not huge, but the conditions are prime. Wednesday the 26th is similar but with a shorter 14-second period, making it a bit less powerful.

Thursday the 27th sees a small dip in size (3-4-feet), but the period stays long. That means long lulls between sets, but the waves that do come will have plenty of push.

Now, the standout window is the end of the first week and into the second. Friday the 28th has a 7-foot SSW swell with a variable wind that's just cross. The arvo is where it's at – clean with a cross-off breeze and that 7-foot of solid, powerful swell (2541 energy). Saturday the 29th is still good, but a bit smaller at 6-feet.

Then we hit a lull for a few days. Sunday the 30th and Monday the 31st are smaller and mixed with some rain showers, so the quality drops off. Not worth paddling out for unless you're desperate.

But hold on to your boards, because things fire back up on Tuesday, September 1st. We're looking at 6-foot SW swell with an 18-second period. It's big, it's long, and it's clean. The morning has a bit of a storm risk, but the arvo is light and cross-off – that's a serious session. Wednesday the 2nd keeps the 6-foot SW swell coming with offshore ESE winds both sessions. Super clean.

The absolute pick of the whole forecast is Friday, September 4th. We've got a 7-foot SSW swell in the morning with a massive 20-second period. That's a rare, deep-ocean groundswell. The combined energy reading is a whopping 5849. By the afternoon it bumps to 8-foot at 19 seconds and 6310 energy. This is huge, powerful, and will be bending around that reef perfectly. Light winds and clean conditions. This is one for the experts only – it's going to be critical, fast, and heavy.

Saturday the 5th still offers a solid 8-foot SSW swell at 16 seconds with light winds, so the window remains open for the experienced crew.

In short, there's great surf on offer for the advanced surfer. The first week is solid, with Friday the 28th being a highlight, but the real big daddy is September 4th and 5th. Get out there and earn your barrels.

Rusty.
