The Lowdown

G'day, Rusty here, with the local scoop. Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – the next 16 days are a total flat spell. There's almost nothing to work with, and what little shows up is useless. From the 18th of July through to the 2nd of August, it's a long, dry run of poor surf conditions. The only glimmer of activity is a tiny pulse near the end. For the first break, Rapid Creek – Beach, the water is sitting at 80°, which is about average for the time of year. Nothing special.

The best we can even half-heartedly mention is the morning of the 1st of August. We get a tiny 0.3ft swell from the West, with a very long period of 21 seconds. The wave energy is pathetic, just (9). The wind is blowing offshore from the SE at 19 mph, so the surface would be clean, but with a wave that small and that long a period, it's going to break too straight for a beach break. It's a no-go. Then on the 2nd of August, the morning shows a similar 0.7ft from the West, 18-second period, and a bit more energy (25), but still just a flat day. The afternoon of the 2nd of August, the wind goes glassy, dropping to just 3 mph from the SSW, but the swell is still a pitiful 0.7ft. It's a pretty, calm ocean, but there's no wave to ride.

For the entire 16-day window, there is nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is either non-existent or too small and weak to surf. The offshore winds just can't make up for the lack of waves. This is a proper flat spell where the ocean has gone to sleep. If you want to paddle a flat board, you'll have a clean session, but for actual surf, don't bother. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a solid pass.

Rusty.
