The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up. Rusty here.
Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you. Over the next 16 days, Rapid Creek – Beach is a total flat spell. There’s not a single decent wave on the cards. The finder is showing basically nothing but tiny dribbles, and the guidance confirms it’s a poor run of surf conditions from start to finish. For a spot that’s fairly exposed to the west, we’re just not getting any love from the ocean. The swell is practically non-existent, with the combined energy barely registering, often just a 4 or 5 (weak energy). It’s a quiet stretch, and sometimes that’s just how it goes around here.
We start off on Friday, the 21st of August, with nothing. Saturday the 22nd? Nothing. Sunday the 23rd, Monday the 24th, Tuesday the 25th – all flat. The few times we see a tiny 0.3 ft swell from the west, it’s got a super long period of 15 to 17 seconds, so it’s got that drawn-out energy, but there’s just no height to get excited about. The winds are a mixed bag too, with some clean mornings and some choppy afternoons, but it doesn’t matter when there’s no wave to ride.
The water temp is sitting at 80°F when we first check, which is about average for the time of year, so at least you won’t be freezing if you go for a swim.
This pattern of flatness just keeps rolling through the end of August and into September. There’s a tiny blip on Thursday the 3rd of September morning with a 0.7 ft swell and a combined energy of 24 (still weak), but the wind is cross-on and it’s just not surfable. The rest of the first week of September is the same story. Friday the 4th, Saturday the 5th – all tiny, all poor.
So, the bottom line: there’s nothing to recommend. No standouts, no hidden gems. The forecast window is a bust for surfing. If you absolutely need to get wet, maybe bring a bodyboard or a set of fins, but for a proper surf, it’s a no-go. The good news is that these blank runs aren’t forever, so keep an eye on the charts.
Rusty.
