The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here again. I’ve chewed over the numbers for Rapid Creek - Beach, and honestly, it’s a proper flat spell—nothing worth chasing for the full 16 days. The first hint of a wave shows on Sunday morning, August 9th, but it’s a tiny 0.3 ft from the west with a super long 16-second period, and the combined energy is a pathetic 6 (weak). Water temp is about what you’d expect for the season, no big anomaly. The whole run is marked as “poor surf conditions” from top to bottom. Mornings often glass off with light offshore breezes from the southeast or east, especially from around August 15th onward—but there’s zero swell to ride. Afternoons see some wind from the north-northwest or north, but that doesn’t help. Swell heights barely hit 0.3 ft or 0.7 ft, periods jump between short and weak (3 to 4 seconds) and very long (17 to 19 seconds), but combined energy stays under 10—just dust. There’s no standout session at all. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with those winds. For us surfers, it’s a total blank. This area can go flat, so it’s not a shock, but it still stings. Forecasts might shift, but for now, save the gas. Rusty.
