The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days look like a real struggle for a paddle. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly any swell to speak of. The whole first week and most of the second week are basically a write-off, so don’t bother rushing to get the wetsuit on just yet.

There’s a big gap of no surf from Tuesday, July 22 right through until the very end of the month. The only tiny bit of action is a couple of weak pulses right at the start and near the end of the period, but they’re barely worth a mention.

The only spot on the radar is Rapid Creek - Beach. It’s a fairly exposed beach break that’s fairly consistent when there’s swell, and it likes a WNW direction. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 21, there’s a tiny 0.3 ft swell from the west with a very long period of 16 seconds. The combined energy is weak (8), and while the wind is a clean cross-off from the east at 12 mph, that swell is just too small to do anything with. It’s a classic “poor surf” call. The same story repeats for the Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning – 0.3 ft, no energy, clean but flat.

From Wednesday afternoon, July 23, all the way through to Friday, August 1, there’s literally no swell showing up. The wind is often offshore and clean, especially on the mornings, but with zero waves, it’s just a flat ocean. You’d be better off going for a swim.

Then, on the morning of Sunday, August 2, we get another whisper of a swell. 0.3 ft from the west, period of 17 seconds, combined energy of just 6. Wind is offshore from the southeast at 16 mph, so it’s clean, but again, it’s not enough to surf. The afternoon is the same story with a little cross-on chop.

The pattern continues through to Wednesday, August 5 – tiny 0.3 ft pulses, long periods, but always “poor surf conditions.” The highest energy we see is 17 on the afternoon of the 5th, but that’s still a joke for a surf report.

Honestly, there’s nothing here for a surfer. If you’re into kiting, the consistent offshore winds and flat water might be your thing, but for a paddle, this is a dead run. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a long wait.

Rusty.
