The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the outlook for Rapid Creek - Beach over the next 16 days is pretty grim. I’m looking at the charts and there’s just nothing to get excited about. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak swell and poor conditions that don’t really offer any decent surf.
The whole 16-day window is essentially a write-off. The first record shows Wednesday 2nd September, and it’s flat as a tack. We’re talking about a 0.3ft swell from the west, which is just about nothing. The wave energy is weak, sitting at just 7. This pattern of tiny, poor surf conditions just keeps rolling through the entire period. You’ll see morning after morning with clean conditions but no wave height to speak of, and afternoons getting chopped up by onshore breezes. There’s no standout day, no real window of opportunity. The best we see is on Sunday 6th September afternoon with a tiny 1ft swell, but even then it’s cross-onshore and choppy. It’s just not worth paddling out for.
The water temperature is 82°F with a 2°F anomaly, which is pretty much normal for this time of year. The wind will be a mixed bag, mostly light easterlies in the mornings which keep things clean, but then it shifts onshore in the afternoons. The swell direction is out of the west, and the optimum for Rapid Creek is from the WNW, so that’s not helping either.
This is a beach break, and with no real swell, it’s going to be a long wait for something to show up. A blank run like this is pretty common for the area when the swell windows close up. Don’t hold your breath, but keep an eye on the charts – things can change.
Rusty.
