Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Rapid Creek - Beach.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a tough one. Over this whole 16-day stretch, we’re looking at a proper flat spell. From the start of the outlook on Friday, July 3rd, right through to the end of the 16 days, there is barely a ripple to get excited about. The surf forecast is basically a write-off, with scores of zero across the board for most of the sessions. That’s a long, dry gap of nearly two weeks with no real surf on offer.
Now, the first tiny sign of life doesn’t show up until Thursday morning, July 9th. A whisper of a west swell, maybe 0.3ft, but it’s a long-period groundswell at 16 seconds. The problem is, with combined swell energy of just (5), that’s weak. For a beach break like this, that kind of long-period energy tends to just lurch and stand up without much push, and with a cross-offshore breeze from the ESE at 12 mph, it’ll be clean but gutless. It’s really not worth paddling out for.
Other than a few similarly tiny pulses of 0.3ft swell showing up on a few mornings – the biggest combined energy we see all period is a paltry (7) on Saturday afternoon, July 18th – it’s much of the same: flat and clean, or flat and choppy. The offshore winds we get on many mornings are a tease, but with no swell to work with, they’re just blowing over a glassy ocean. The water temp here is 80°, about average for the time of year, so at least a paddle would be comfortable if you just wanted a float.
There’s simply no standout, no best session. This break is rated as “fairly consistent,” but the forecasts show a blank run that’s unusual for the area. Don’t sweat it, though – forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Rusty.
