The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, but I’ll switch to feet and miles for you. Let’s be real, it’s been a rough patch. We’re looking at the Rapid Creek area and the surf is practically non-existent for the entire 16-day stretch. There’s a big dry spell from right now until the first week of August.

For the first week and a half, there’s nothing. Flatter than a pancake. The water is about 77°, which is a bit nippier than usual for this time of year.

The first sign of life is on Wednesday afternoon, August 5th. It’s a tiny 1ft swell from the NE, with a weak period of 3 seconds. The combined energy is a pathetic 3 – barely a bump. The wind is cross-onshore, so it’s choppy. Not worth the effort.

The best of a bad bunch comes on the morning of Friday, August 7th. We get a tiny 0.3ft pulse from the west, but it has a very long period of 18 seconds. That’s some distant groundswell energy, but the height is so small it’s a non-event. The wind is offshore from the SE at 12 mph, which would make it glassy. The energy is still just 6, so it’s weak. It’ll be clean, but you’d be lucky to catch a foam ball.

Looking further ahead, the mornings of Friday, August 14th look similar, with a tiny 0.3ft swell from the west and a very long period of 22 seconds. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’ll be clean, but again, barely any push.

The bottom line: There is no standout. There is no good surf on offer. All the scores are zeros. If you’re itching for a paddle, the morning of August 7th might be the cleanest, but don’t expect a wave. It’s a total blank run for this spot. Hopefully, the models change soon.

Rusty.
