Praia da Vieira Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer down at Praia da Vieira.

Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and frustrating run for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long stretch of poor surf conditions ahead. The first sniff of anything rideable shows up on the morning of Tuesday, 21 July. We’re looking at small, clean waves with a glassy surface. The swell is from the NNW at 2 ft, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined wave energy is weak (76). The water is sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary, and you’ll be fighting for scraps.

From Tuesday afternoon all the way through to the end of July, it’s a grim picture. The wind picks up onshore or cross-onshore, the swell stays tiny or gets messy. The morning of Saturday, 25 July, we see a jump in height to 5 ft from the WNW, but the wind is a cross-onshore mess and the combined energy is moderate (245). It’s not worth paddling out for. The same goes for Sunday, 26 July, with 6 ft from the NNW in the morning and a fresh cross-onshore wind making it lumpy. That’s not a surf, it’s a washing machine. Even with the energy up (379), it’s poor.

We get a slight break on the morning of Monday, 27 July, with 5 ft NNW swell and a light cross-onshore. The conditions are marginal, but it’s the first time we see a score of 1, so it’s at least worth a look. The energy is moderate (259). Still, the wind is a problem.

The real standout, and the only one I’d actually get excited about, is the morning of Thursday, 30 July. The wind goes glassy, and we get a clean, small 1 ft swell from the WNW with a longer period of 10 seconds. The energy is low (65), but the conditions will be smooth. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. For the size, it’s one for the log or a longboard.

After that, we’re back into the poor run. The morning of Tuesday, 4 August, shows a 4 ft from the NNW with a light cross-onshore and moderate energy (207). It’s marginal, but nothing to shout about. The rest of the forecast is a dead loss.

So, to sum it up: the best bet is the morning of Thursday, 30 July, for clean but tiny waves. Everything else is a fight against the wind or just flat. If you’re desperate, the morning of 21 July or 27 July might give you a few, but don’t expect much.
