Praia da Vieira Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we've got coming down the line for our local stretch. It's going to be a bit of a mixed bag, so let's get into it.

Right from the start, we've got a bit of a wait on our hands. The first session worth talking about is this Friday morning, the 4th of September. We're looking at small 2 ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a short 8-second period. The combined energy is low, weak even, at just (67). But, with a light NE cross-off breeze, the water at Praia da Vieira is 68°, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year. Honestly, it’s surfable but very ordinary – a bit of a groaner to get things started.

Saturday morning is where things start to look a little more promising. The 5th sees a touch more size at 3 ft from the WNW, period stretching to 9 seconds, and the energy bumps up a notch to (123). The real story here is the glassy conditions with a light northerly wind. That's clean surf, no doubt about it. For a small wave, this is about as good as it gets in the short term.

That glassy feeling pops up again on the morning of Tuesday the 15th. It's flat calm, not a breath of wind, and we've got 4 ft of NNW swell at 8 seconds. Energy's moderate at (197). It'll be clean, but the short period will keep things a bit lumpy and less powerful. Still, a good morning for a longboard or a funboard.

Looking further out, the morning of Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th both have glassy conditions on the cards. Wednesday morning has 3 ft from the NNW at 7 seconds (171 energy), and Thursday morning has 3 ft from the NNW at 8 seconds (180 energy). Both offer that clean, windless surface, but the swell is small and short-period. Good for a cruise, not for a thrill.

The standout window in this whole outlook, though, is the morning of Monday the 14th of September. Now, Monday morning itself isn't a standout because of the wind, but look at what's building. The pulse of swell through the 13th and into the 14th is the biggest we see in the whole forecast. On Monday the 14th morning, the wind swings around to a light SSW cross. That’s a huge improvement on the onshore winds we’ve been fighting. The swell is 5 ft from the NW with an 8-second period and energy at (316). That's the most sizeable, most powerful wave we're going to see, and for the first time in days the wind won't be destroying it. It’s still a bit short-period and cross, but it’s the best combo of size and manageable conditions in the entire 16-day window.

After that, we trail off. The 17th afternoon and into the 18th gets blown out by strong NNW winds, and the 19th is a write-off with messy onshore junk. The last real sniff of anything clean is that Thursday morning on the 17th. After that, it's a long, choppy fade-out.

So, to wrap it up: the best bet for a clean, fun session is Saturday the 5th of September for the small, glassy waves. But if you want the biggest swell of the period and can handle a bit of cross-wind texture, make the call for Monday the 14th of September, early. That's the one.
