The Lowdown

Right, let's have a look at what's on offer for Playa Icacos.

Alright, so the first decent surf of the window kicks off on Thursday the 16th. It's a bit of a slow start, but we've got a clean, glassy morning with some swell from the SSW. The water's sitting at 88°, which is a touch warmer than you'd normally expect for this time of year, so that's a nice bonus. The combined energy is moderate (401) and the swell is a mellow 3ft on a 12-second period. It's not going to blow your mind, but it'll be a fun, clean little wave for an intermediate.

Now, Friday the 17th morning is also looking good with another glassy session, similar size and direction. The energy's a bit lower (355), but for a quick paddle before the wind picks up, it'll be fine.

The real standout, though, is the morning of the 20th, which is a Monday. That's the one to circle. We've got a 4ft SSW swell with a solid 16-second period, so it's a proper groundswell with some grunt. The energy is ramping up to 1041, and with glassy conditions, this is going to be excellent for experienced surfers. It's a little too big for beginners, but for anyone with a bit of time in the water, that's your best bet in the first week.

The good news keeps coming. The 21st is clean again with a 4ft swell, and the 22nd and 23rd mornings both have glassy conditions and manageable, fun-sized waves.

Then the second week really starts to fire. The 24th is a Friday morning, and we've got a 3ft SSW swell, but the period jumps to 24 seconds. That's a *very* long period groundswell, and the energy is strong (963). It'll be super clean and glassy. That's a point-break dream, but at a beach break it might be a bit too straight. Worth checking out, though.

And then the 27th, which is a Monday, is the absolute standout of the whole 16-day window. The morning is dead calm, glassy, and we've got a 6ft SSW swell on a 19-second period. The energy is pumping at 2521. That's a powerful, clean, long-period swell. It's expert territory for sure, but if you're up for it, this is the session to aim for. The 28th and 29th mornings are also excellent, with similar size and glassy conditions, so the whole end of the month is looking very promising.

A bit of a heads-up: the 31st is looking a bit messy with onshore winds and a 7ft to 8ft SSW swell. That's a lot of power (2091 on the afternoon), but with onshore wind, it'll be a bit of a washing machine. That setup might be more fun for the kite crew than the paddle crew.

So, to sum it up: the first week has some fun, clean mornings, with Monday the 20th being the best of that bunch. The second week, from the 24th through to the 29th, is where the real quality lies, with Monday the 27th being the absolute standout. It's a consistent run of good surf, so get your boards ready.

Rusty.
