The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down the same outlook for Playa Icacos, but in feet and miles per hour this time.
We’ve got a consistent run of SSW groundswell coming in, and the water temp is right around normal for the season. No surprises there.
Sunday morning, September 13th, kicks things off with a small 3ft SW swell at 13 seconds, glassy conditions and a light 3 mph ESE breeze. The energy is moderate (273). It’s a gentle start, clean and easy.
Monday morning, September 14th, the swell nudges up to 3ft from the SW, still with a long 18-second period, and glassy winds from the east. Energy is stronger (572). A solid morning for intermediates.
Tuesday morning, September 15th, the swell hits 4ft from the SSW, 17-second period, glassy NNE breeze. Energy is strong (941). This is the first real standout – clean, solid groundswell with offshore wind.
The big one is Wednesday morning, September 16th. Swell reaches 5ft from the SSW, 16-second period, glassy conditions with a light westerly. Energy is very strong (1096). This is the best of the bunch – excellent for experienced surfers. The wind is offshore and the swell has punch.
Thursday and Friday mornings stay good – 4ft and 3ft, both glassy and clean. Energy stays strong through Thursday (950) and Friday (787).
Saturday morning, September 19th, is smaller at 3ft, but again glassy. Then Sunday morning, September 20th, the swell jumps to 4ft with a very long 19-second period, glassy, and strong energy (1079). Another standout morning.
Monday morning, September 21st, is equally excellent: 4ft SW at 17 seconds, glassy, energy 1077. A fantastic run of mornings.
Into the second week, the quality remains but the swell slowly drops. Tuesday morning, September 22nd: 4ft, 16 seconds, glassy, energy 835. Wednesday and Thursday mornings, September 23rd and 24th: both 4ft, glassy, moderate energy (589 and 525). Friday morning, September 25th: 3ft, 13 seconds, glassy and calm – smaller but clean.
The last few mornings – Saturday September 26th (3ft, 13s, glassy, energy 653) and Sunday September 27th (3ft, 17s, glassy, energy 823) – finish the period clean. Monday morning September 28th offers a final 4ft SW at 13 seconds with no wind, energy 705.
Afternoons are consistently choppy with a cross-onshore breeze, so mornings are your only window. Crowds are “sometimes” – expect company on the best days but nothing crazy.
The standout sessions are Wednesday September 16th morning and Sunday September 20th morning – solid groundswell, glassy, strong energy. Don’t miss ’em.
Rusty.
