The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I've got the scoop on Paradise Beach. I gotta be straight with you, the next fortnight or so is a tough one for surfers.
Right off the bat, from Sunday the 30th of August all the way through to the morning of Monday the 14th of September, it's a flat spell. We're talking zero energy hitting this spot. The wind is howling offshore – mostly from the east or southeast at 15 to 25 mph – which would be beautiful if there was any swell to work with, but there isn't. It's just clean, choppy, flat water. Not a thing to ride. That's a solid two-week gap with nothing on offer for a paddle surfer.
Now, Paradise Beach is a point break here, exposed to the northwest swell window. It's a rarity, "rarely breaks" they say, so it takes a very specific alignment to fire. It's an intermediate spot when it does, and crowds are possible.
The one tiny glimmer comes in the very last frame of the forecast. On the afternoon of Monday the 14th of September, we finally see a blip of life. A tiny 0.7 ft swell from the NNW, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 9 (weak). It's not a surfable wave. The offshore winds are still strong at 19 mph from the east. This is not the one.
So, there are no standout days. Absolutely no recommendation in this 16-day window. The water temp for the first record was 84.4°F, which is normal for the time of year, but that doesn't help us now. For an area where this break "rarely breaks", a blank run like this is more normal than unusual. Don't hold your breath; forecasts can change, but for now, keep the board in the car and the wax in the bag.
