Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s brewing, just the one spot today – Ninja’s. It’s a reef setup that’s fairly consistent and usually a good option for beginners when conditions line up. Right now, we are in a bit of a waiting game.
The first few days of the forecast are a bit of a tease. Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th have some small swell running, around 2ft to 3ft, but the winds are a moderate cross-off from the WNW at 12 to 16 mph. The wave energy is weak to moderate (225 to 435) and the quality is just not there yet. This stretch through Wednesday the 8th is pretty much the same story – clean looking surf, but the tide and swell just aren’t cooperating for a proper session.
We start to see a real shift on Thursday the 9th. The swell picks up to 4ft from the SSW with a solid 15-second period, pushing the combined energy up strongly (622). Winds ease to a gentle breeze from the west, still cross-off, and the surf is looking clean. This is the first true standout window of the whole outlook. Thursday morning is shaping up to be very good, with that long-period groundswell hitting the exposed reef just right. It’ll be better shaped and have more push than anything before it. Keep in mind, crowds are often a thing here, so you might have some company.
Friday the 10th is still decent, with 3ft from the SSW and moderate energy (487), but the risk of thunderstorms and that drop in period to 14 seconds makes it a notch below Thursday.
We hit another lull from Saturday the 11th through Monday the 13th. Swell drops back to 2ft to 4ft, and while the wind stays favorable, the wave quality is just marginal. Not worth getting excited about.
Now, Tuesday the 14th of July shows another proper pulse. The swell is 4ft from the SSE, period at 12 seconds, and combined energy hits a strong 646 on the morning. Winds are a gentle cross-off from the west again, keeping it clean. This is the second standout window – very good conditions that morning, with plenty of energy and shape for a fun reef session.
After that, things get a little messy. We get a mix of small swell, cross-shore winds, and even some onshore days from the 15th through the 21st. On the 16th, we get a rare moment of glassy conditions in the morning with a light southerly breeze at 3 mph, but the swell is only 2ft from the SW with a very long 16-second period – it might be a bit too straight for this break, but if you’re patient, the quiet crowd and glassy surface could be a hidden gem.
From the 17th onward, onshore winds and onshore swells from the SSE and SSW make it mostly poor to marginal. The wave energy stays moderate (198 to 662), but the wind is just not working for us. The last few days, the 20th and 21st, show a little more size at 4ft to 4ft from the SSE, but with cross-shore winds creating chop, it looks more like a kite session than a paddle session.
Water temp is sitting at 84°F with a tiny anomaly of +0.2°F, so it’s about average for this time of year – warm and comfortable.
So, to wrap it up: the best bets are Thursday morning the 9th of July and Tuesday morning the 14th of July. Both have that solid swell, good direction, clean winds, and enough period to get the reef working. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or just average. Keep an eye on that glassy 16th morning too, if you’re feeling patient.
Rusty.
