The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so we’ve got a bit of a slow start, but there’s a decent run of surfable waves coming through. The main event is really pointing to the end of the run, with a lot of promise in the background. For the first week, we’re looking at a persistent, clean, cross-off breeze from the west or west-northwest keeping things tidy. The swell is going to be a bit on the small side for a while, but the conditions are good for the smaller boards.
Starting off from Tuesday the 14th, Ninja’s is seeing a south swell pushing 4 ft with an 11-second period. The wind is a cross-off from the west at 12 mph, which keeps the surface clean. The water is a warm 85°F, which is about average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (519). It’s a bit marginal, but the clean conditions make it a goer for a beginner-friendly wave.
The pattern continues through Wednesday and Thursday the 15th and 16th. Swell drops a touch to 3 ft and 3 ft, but the period stretches out. A very long-period groundswell from the southwest on Wednesday morning hits 16 seconds (580 energy), meaning longer waits between sets but the waves will have good shape. The wind stays light and cross-off, so it’s clean. By Thursday, the swell is smaller but still clean.
Friday the 17th sees a slight bump up to 4 ft from the SSE with a shorter 10-second period. The wind is still cross-off, so it’s clean. The energy is moderate (407). It’s a nice little Friday session.
The weekend of the 19th and 20th is looking real nice. The wind drops to a light breeze, almost glassy. Swell hangs around 3 ft to 2 ft from the SSE and SSW. The light wind will make it feel like a private session for a bit, but crowds are possible at this spot. The energy is still moderate (around 264-286).
Now, the second week gets a bit more interesting. Through the 21st to the 24th, we’ve got a mix of small, clean waves. The wind stays light to moderate, cross-off, so it’s still surfable, but nothing massive.
The standout period is the final few days. On Sunday the 26th, we’ve got a serious pulse coming in. The swell from the SSW jumps to 3 ft with a very long period of 20 seconds (740 energy). The cross-shore wind is moderate, so it’s a bit choppy, but the energy is there. The real magic is Monday the 27th. The swell hits 3 ft from the SW with an 18-second period, and the combined energy rockets up to 1219, which is strong. The wind is a light cross-shore, so it’s a bit textured, but the size and power are there. This is the best window for the session. The period is so long it’ll be best on a reef or point, breaking with real purpose. It’s a bit big for beginners, but for anyone with some experience, this is the one. The forecast is less certain this far out, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
The 28th and 29th keep the energy up with SW swells of 4 ft and 3 ft, good periods, and a clean cross-off breeze on the 29th.
So, the best bet is Monday the 27th at Ninja’s. The south-west swell with a 18-second period has the most energy of the whole run. It’s a big, powerful groundswell. The wind is a bit messy, but the quality of the wave itself will make up for it. The water is warm, and the crowds are always a factor, so be ready for that. If you can get out then, you’ll be rewarded.
Rusty.
