Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break it down in feet and miles.
The next 16 days at Ninja's are a bit of a mixed bag. We’re looking at a long stretch of mostly small, weak surf, but there are a couple of windows where it could get interesting. The water’s sitting at a warm 84°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days are a write-off. Sunday, July 5th, and Monday, July 6th, are a no-go, with tiny, messy waves and a moderate cross-off wind that’s not doing us any favours. The combined energy is weak, sitting around 327 to 435 (moderate energy), but the quality just isn’t there. Tuesday, July 7th, through Thursday, July 9th, are similarly poor, with swell barely reaching 2ft to 4ft from the SW and SSW. The wind is a consistent cross-off, but the wave state is just marginal. It’s the kind of window where you’d be better off checking the forecast again.
The first real standout comes on Friday, July 10th, morning. We’ve got a light breeze from the NW, which is a clean cross-off, and a 3ft swell from the SSW with a period of 14 seconds. That’s a nice long-period groundswell, and the combined energy is 489 (moderate). The call is for “good surf conditions,” which is the best we’ve seen. It’s a small window, but that morning session could be worth it.
Then, things get a bit more promising in the second week. Monday, July 13th, sees a 4ft swell from the S, with a 12-second period and a combined energy of 669 (moderate). The wind is light and cross-off. It’s still marginal, but it’s a step up.
The best of the lot, though, is Tuesday, July 14th, morning. The swell is 3ft from the SSW, but the period is a very long 17 seconds, and the combined energy is 686 (moderate). The wind is a gentle cross-off from the WNW, and the forecast is for “very good surf conditions.” This is a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be better at the reef here, offering clean, well-shaped lines. The sets will be more spaced out, making paddling out easier. It’s a hidden gem of a session.
Wednesday, July 15th, morning is also strong, with a 3ft SW swell, 15-second period, and combined energy of 614 (moderate). The wind is light from the WNW, and again, it’s “very good.” That afternoon, the swell shifts to a 4ft SSE with a 10-second period, and the energy is 510 (moderate). Still good.
Then, Thursday, July 16th, is a real treat. The morning is glassy, with zero wind, and a 4ft SSE swell with a 10-second period. That’s as clean as it gets, with a combined energy of 403 (moderate). The afternoon is also glassy, with the same swell. This is a prime session for a small, clean wave.
After that, the surf drops off again. From Friday, July 17th, to Monday, July 20th, the wind turns cross-on, and the swell is small and inconsistent, with the combined energy around 229 to 598 (moderate). It’s not a total write-off, but it’s not a standout.
The standout: Tuesday, July 14th, morning. The 3ft, 17-second SSW groundswell, with a light cross-off wind, is the pick of the bunch. If you can only get out once, make it that session. The clean, glassy conditions on Thursday, July 16th, morning are a very close second.
Rusty.
