Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ninja's over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for this stretch of coast. We’ve got one spot on the radar, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
The first proper surf recommendation kicks off on Friday, July 10, but to be honest, the early days are pretty marginal. The water temp is sitting at a warm 85°F, which is about normal for this time of year – nothing to write home about.
Friday, July 10 sees a small 3ft SSW swell at Ninja's (reef), with a clean 13-second period and a moderate cross-off breeze from the WNW. The energy is moderate (436), but the call is that it’s only marginal surf. Not much to get excited about yet.
Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12 are similar – small, clean, but tiny. Swell drops to 2ft to 3ft, and while the wind stays favourable, it’s just not enough to get the heart pumping. The energy is weak (208-318).
Monday July 13 starts to bump up. We get a 4ft to 4ft S swell, still clean, with a solid 12-second period. The energy climbs into the moderate range (539-685), but the score is still low. It’s looking like a small, clean, but not very powerful setup.
Tuesday July 14 holds similar 4ft SSE swell, with the energy staying moderate (520-637). Still clean, still just okay.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Wednesday July 15 kicks off with a shift. We get a 3ft SW swell, but the period jumps to a very long 16 seconds. This is a proper groundswell. The energy is strong (632), and the wind is light. The report says “expect very good surf conditions”. This is the standout of the first week. The long period should make for some nice, lined-up waves at the reef, though the long period can make it a bit straight at some beach breaks – but here at Ninja's, that’s a bonus. The swell is small, but the quality will be high.
Thursday July 16 continues the trend with a 3ft SW swell at 14 seconds, still clean with light winds. A solid option.
Friday July 17 is more of the same, with a 2ft SW swell, very clean, but the size is starting to drop.
Saturday July 18 sees a change to a 3ft SSE swell, but the period drops to 9 seconds. The energy is moderate (263). Not bad, but not the quality of the previous days.
Sunday July 19 is a write-off. The wind shifts to a cross-shore with a cross-chop, and the period drops to 8 seconds. The conditions are poor. This is a gap in the good stuff.
Monday July 20 gets a pulse of long-period S swell (16 seconds, 567 energy), but it’s crossed up with strong winds. The conditions are marginal at best. It’s a messy one.
Tuesday July 21 to Thursday July 23 is a bit of a wash. We get a 4ft to 5ft SSE swell, but the period is short (10 seconds) and the winds are messy. The energy is moderate (382-475), but the quality is poor. The break is a reef, so the short period won’t help it much.
Friday July 24 sees a bigger pulse. A 5ft SE swell with 10 seconds of period, and the energy jumps to strong (804). The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean. This is the biggest swell of the period, but at 5ft, it’s still manageable for most. The longer-range outlook is promising, but it’s a week and a half away, so take it with a grain of salt.
Saturday July 25 holds similar 5ft to 5ft SE swell, still clean, with strong energy (578-690). A decent way to close out the forecast.
All in all, the standout is Wednesday July 15 with that long-period SW groundswell and light winds. It’s not big, but it will be clean and quality. The big SE swell on the 24th is a close second, but it’s a long way off.
Keep your eyes on the forecasts, and don’t expect the first week to be pumping. When it’s good, it’ll be sweet.
Rusty.
