Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a close look at what's coming down the pipe for Lampaul Ploudalmezeau. We've got a few windows, but you've got to pick your moments carefully.

The forecast kicks off with a bit of a struggle. Wednesday afternoon we've got a weak 5 ft swell from the west, but it's bumpy with a strong 30 km/h south-westerly and a short period of just 7 seconds. The water temp is sitting at 60°, which is almost two degrees colder than we'd expect for this time of year – so you'll want a decent steamer. That first session is a no-go; the energy is weak (283) and conditions are just marginal.

Thursday and Friday offer a bit more hope. Thursday morning has a moderate offshore breeze with 5 ft swell from the west at 8 seconds, and the afternoon cleans up a little too. The combined energy sits around 244 to 212 – still modest. Friday morning looks the pick of this first run: 6 ft from the west-northwest with a clean offshore wind from the WSW at 20 km/h. You'll find some fun little waves, but it's nothing to write home about. The afternoon Friday gets a bit ugly with a cross-shore breeze messing things up.

Now, here's where it gets interesting, but not for everyone. Saturday morning the 5th of September, we see a pulse of long-period groundswell rolling in – 6 ft at 12 seconds from the WNW. The energy jumps to 1080, which is solid. BUT, that's an onshore wind from the east-northeast. It's going to be lumpy and poor. Then Saturday afternoon gets worse. Not the day to paddle out.

Sunday and Monday we get a big drop in size, but hold on to your hats for Monday the 7th of September. The forecast is showing a big WNW groundswell pushing 7 ft with a long 12-second period, and the energy is massive at 1249. The wind is clean cross-offshore from the WNW at 20 km/h – this looks incredible but here's the rub: at 7 ft, Lampaul is a beginner spot and this is very much expert territory. The waves will be powerful and the rip will be working. If you're not solid, stay on the beach and watch. This swell is too big for this break for your average surfer. It's gonna be a wash-through, meaning the sets will be lining up but closing out and generally unruly. A beach setup with this size and period can get a bit shifty and better left to the guys with big balls and bigger boards, or even the kites.

After that, the swell fades fast. We've got a few small, clean days around the 11th and 12th, but they're under 3 ft with low energy – basically lake conditions. There's then a long quiet gap.

The next highlight is a full week later, on Monday the 14th of September. We see another solid pulse – 5 ft from the WNW with a long 12-second period. The energy is solid at 671. Winds are light and cross-offshore from the west at 15 km/h. This looks much more manageable than the earlier big swell and should offer clean, fun waves on the sets. The tide will be important, but this is your standout window for a proper session without the terrifying power. Tuesday the 15th also offers a smaller, but clean, follow-up with 4 ft and light winds.

So, to wrap it up: the first few days are small and average. The big swell on the 7th is for experts only. The real standout for most surfers will be Monday the 14th of September – clean, groundswell, and manageable size. It's a long way out, but it looks promising.
