Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Caffrine over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s cooking at La Caffrine over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a nice little run of surf starting this Thursday morning, July 9th. The water’s sitting at a warm 76°, which is about a degree and a half warmer than usual for this time of year – feels nice, a bit of a tropical bath. The swell is coming in at 5ft from the SSE with a moderate 10-second period, but the real story is the glassy conditions; that 3 mph wind from the WNW is making it look like a mirror. Clean, smooth, and the energy is moderate (502). It’s a solid morning for a paddle.
The real standout, though, is going to be Saturday, July 11th. The swell picks up to 6ft in the morning, jumping to 7ft by the afternoon, both from the SW. The period stretches out to a solid 15 seconds, giving those waves some real push and shape. The energy is getting strong (1497 in the morning, 1774 in the afternoon). And the wind is glassy – 3 mph from the NW in the morning, then 3 mph from the W in the afternoon, still glassy. This is where the experienced surfers are going to have a field day. The water is warm, the waves have power, and it’s clean. This is the best on offer.
Sunday morning, July 12th, the swell jumps to 10ft, which is too big for most, and the wind is a cross-off from the SE at 12 mph. The energy is massive (3322), but that’s expert territory, and honestly, the size is going to make it a bit of a war zone. The afternoon is still big at 8ft but with a fresh 19 mph breeze, it’s a bit messy.
There’s a gap of smaller, cleaner surf from Monday, July 13th, through to the following Sunday, July 19th. The waves hang around 6ft to 7ft with good 14-15 second periods, and the wind is mostly glassy or light. It’s consistent, good quality, but not the absolute peak of the run.
Then, Sunday, July 19th, we get another big pulse. The morning brings 6ft from the SSW with a very long 19-second period, and the energy is jumping to 2472. The wind is glassy from the WSW. Then the afternoon shows 7ft with a 17-second period, calm winds, and 2753 energy. This is a true groundswell, and at La Caffrine, it’s going to be a treat for the guys who know how to handle that long-period juice. It’s bigger, so it’s for the experienced crew, but it’s looking like a ripper.
The final standout is on Thursday, July 23rd, and Friday, July 24th. The swell is 5ft to 7ft from the SSW, but the period is insane – 21 seconds on Thursday morning, 19 seconds on Thursday afternoon, and 16 seconds on Friday. The energy is through the roof (2969, 4497, and 4306). The wind is glassy or light cross-off, so it’s clean. This is a very long-period groundswell, so think long lines, deep power, and a bit of a wait between sets. It’s a dream for the point, but it’s big and powerful, so definitely for the advanced crowd.
A note on the bigger days: when the swell is over 8ft, like Sunday the 12th, it’s really only for the experts. If you’re a beginner, stick to the mornings around the 3ft to 5ft range, like Friday, July 10th, or Wednesday, July 15th, when the wind is calm and the water is flat.
Crowds can show up here sometimes, especially on the good days, so get in early if you want a clean lineup.
Rusty out.
