Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here, looking at what’s on the cards for La Caffrine. This is an exposed beginner-friendly spot, and the water is sitting at a warm 77°F which is about 2°F above normal for this time of year – a nice little bonus.
The forecast kicks off Friday, July 3rd, and we’re in for a treat straight away. Friday afternoon is looking prime with a clean 4ft SW groundswell, a solid 13-second period, and glassy conditions. The combined energy is a hefty (1159). It’s excellent, clean surf for those with a bit of experience.
Saturday morning, July 4th, keeps the dream alive. The swell pushes up a notch to 6ft from the SSW, still glassy, and the energy is still strong (1124). This is the best of the early run. By Saturday afternoon the swell drops back slightly to 5ft, still clean.
Sunday the 5th is a step down. The morning brings a long-period 5ft SW swell at 16 seconds, but a light cross-shore wind messes with the glass. The afternoon sees a jump in size to 8ft, which is getting big for this break, and still with that cross-shore wind. The energy is cranking (2573), but the conditions are just marginal.
Monday the 6th through to Tuesday the 7th sees the wind pick up. Monday is a choppy 7ft, and Tuesday morning jumps to a stormy 8ft. Tuesday afternoon the swell hits 10ft with a fresh 19 mph cross-offshore wind – that’s expert-only territory and way too big for a spot like this. The energy is massive (3834), but frankly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Things clean up again on Wednesday, July 8th. The swell drops back to a manageable 7ft from the S with a clean cross-offshore breeze. That’s back to being excellent for experienced surfers.
Thursday, July 9th brings a brief return to glassy conditions in the morning with a 5ft SSE swell, but the afternoon drops off to a weak 2ft.
Friday, July 10th is another glassy gem, with a 4ft SW swell in the morning and a 4ft in the afternoon. Good shape, clean faces.
Now, the real standout in the whole window is Saturday, July 11th. The morning session is glassy with a solid 7ft SSW groundswell at 14 seconds. The energy is pumping (1878) and the conditions are perfect. This is the one to circle.
Sunday, July 12th is a monster day but for the wrong reasons. We’re looking at a massive 12ft SSW groundswell with an ultra-long 17-second period. The combined energy is off the charts (7809). It’s glassy, but it’s way, way too big for this break. Experts only, if anyone is brave enough.
Monday, July 13th is still huge, but by the afternoon the swell drops to 8ft and a clean cross-offshore wind returns, making it excellent for the hard crew again.
The rest of the second week sees the swell bounce around. Tuesday, July 14th afternoon is a glassy 6ft with a long 16-second period – very good. Wednesday, July 15th gets a bit wind-affected. Thursday, July 16th morning is glassy at 6ft again. Friday, July 17th starts glassy but small, and the weekend of July 18th offers clean, cross-offshore waves in the 3ft to 4ft range, but it’s tapering off.
So, to sum it up: Saturday the 11th is your red-letter day. Get in the water early for that glassy 7ft SSW groundswell. Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th are your best bets in the near term.
Rusty.
