Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Caffrine over the next 16 days.
G’day folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a yarn about what’s coming up for La Caffrine. The window kicks off on Wednesday the 8th of July and runs for just over two weeks. There’s a bit of a mixed bag, but plenty of good windows if you pick your moments.
The first recommended session is Wednesday afternoon, July 8th, with a 8ft ESE swell. It’s a cross-off breeze from the SE at 6 mph, and the water temperature is sitting at 76°, which is bang on average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (2012), and those waves have decent period, but at 8ft it’s getting into experienced-only territory. Still, it’s clean and punchy.
Thursday the 9th looks real good in the morning. Glassy conditions with a WSW breeze at 3 mph and a clean 5ft SSE groundswell running at 10 seconds. Combined energy jumps to strong (502). This is the kind of morning that’ll have you grinning ear to ear—solid, clean, and well-shaped. The afternoon drops off in quality, so get on it early.
Friday the 10th is a ripper. Glassy conditions both sessions—calm in the morning and a light westerly glass-off in the arvo. Swell is a consistent 3ft to 4ft from the SW with very long-period groundswell of 14 to 15 seconds. That’s the kind of energy that wraps in nicely here. Combined energy is strong (566 and 756). Expect clean, fun, groomed lines all day.
Saturday the 11th is the standout. Glassy both sessions with very light winds. Morning swell is 6ft from the SW at 15 seconds, and the afternoon bumps to 7ft from the SSW at 15 seconds. Combined energy is very strong (1470 and 1764). This is excellent surf for experienced surfers. Long-period groundswell, clean conditions—this is your best bet across the whole outlook. Get out there for Saturday.
Sunday the 12th gets a bit too big. 10ft in the morning and 8ft in the afternoon from the SW, but the wind shifts to a moderate cross-shore SSE, creating chop. The energy is massive (3374 and 2708), but that’s too much for this break unless you’re an expert on a big board. Even then, the afternoon gets messy. Might be more of a kite session.
Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 14th holds clean, cross-off SE winds with swells between 5ft and 7ft from the SW and SSW. Periods drop to 13–14 seconds, but the energy stays strong (1061–1748). These are still excellent, clean waves for experienced surfers. Crowds can pop up here sometimes, so get in early.
Wednesday the 15th is a glassy morning with a 6ft SSW swell at 12 seconds. Combined energy is strong (1315). The afternoon backs off a touch but stays glassy. Clean, shoulder-high+ waves with no wind—great midweek reset.
Thursday the 16th drops right off. Small 3ft–3ft swells with onshore and cross-onshore winds. Not worth paddling out.
Friday the 17th picks back up with glassy conditions and a long-period 3ft to 4ft S swell at 15 to 19 seconds. Combined energy is strong (1070 and 1454). That very long period will put some serious push into the waves, especially on the points and reefs. Clean and inviting.
Saturday the 18th holds clean, cross-off and glassy conditions with small 2ft–4ft S and SSW swells. Energy is moderate to strong. Fine for a fun, uncrowded paddle.
Sunday the 19th onwards gets rough. Rain showers and strong cross-shore winds kick in. Swells drop to 1ft–2ft, and conditions are poor. The run from the 19th to the 22nd is a write-off—rain, strong SSE winds, and lumpy, messy surf. Stay dry.
Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd see a slight bump in swell but still cross-shore wind and marginal quality. Not a highlight.
So to wrap it up: the best on offer is Saturday the 11th of July—glassy, 6–7ft long-period SSW groundswell, strong energy, and clean. Friday the 10th and Friday the 17th are also top-tier days. Get on it.
Rusty.
