Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Caffrine over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here, and I’ve got the lowdown on the only game in town for the next couple of weeks. It’s a one-break show, so let’s get into it.
We’re looking at La Caffrine, a beginner-friendly spot that’s exposed to the swell. This place is *fairly consistent*, so we’ll have waves to talk about, but the quality is going to be a real mixed bag. The opening act hits us on Sunday the 12th of July, and there’s no messing about – it’s full-on from the get-go.
The standout session, the one you’d circle on the calendar, is hands down the Sunday morning on the 25th of July. We’ve got a solid 7ft SSW groundswell pumping in, with a very long period of 18 seconds. That’s serious energy, over three and a half thousand units of it (3523)! The wind is glassy from the SE, so you’re looking at pure, mirror-like conditions. This is the pick of the bunch for an experienced surfer – that size is well into the expert zone. The same goes for the afternoon that day; 7ft SSW at 17 seconds with a light, clean offshore breeze. Both sessions are top-tier.
Before that, we have to work through a bit of a mixed forecast. That first Sunday morning, the 12th, sees a big 10ft SW swell (15-second period) but the wind is a light cross-onshore. The energy reading is a massive 3281, but it’s a bit too much power for this break, and the conditions aren’t perfect. Monday morning the 13th looks cleaner with a cross-offshore wind and a 8ft SW swell, which is good for experienced surfers only.
Things get interesting on Tuesday the 14th. The morning session is a classic: 6ft SSW swell with glassy conditions. That’s a great window for the more advanced crew. By Thursday the 16th, the swell drops right off to under 3ft (335 energy), so you’re looking at a lull with weak, small waves. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
There’s a real gap in quality from about the 16th through the 21st. You’ll see small waves and tricky winds, with many sessions described as marginal. It’s not totally flat, but it’s not worth getting excited about.
The quality returns on the 23rd of July. The Thursday morning has a clean, cross-offshore wind and a 7ft SSE swell – another one for the experienced surfers. Friday the 24th is also looking clean, and the afternoon session throws in a very interesting 4ft swell with a very long 21-second period. That’s pure groundswell energy (2226), which will wrap in nicely and offer some real power for its size at this spot.
Then we hit that big, clean weekend on the 25th and 26th. After the Sunday peak, Monday the 27th is still offering a solid 6ft SSW swell in clean conditions (2482 energy). It’s another good option for the experienced crew.
A quick note on the swell windows: we get a lot of long-period SSW and SW swells here. That means the waves will have real punch and long waits between sets. Paddling out will be easier, but be ready for those bombs. Also, remember the break can get crowded sometimes, so get in early on those standout days.
This is Rusty, signing off.
