The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's break down what La Caffrine has in store for us.
The first few days are a bit of a mixed bag, but a serious run of swell is building for next week. The water’s sitting at 24°, which is about average for this time of year, so you can leave the wetsuit at home.
Wednesday afternoon (the 15th) is a tease. Swell is a clean 4ft from the SSW with a 12-second period, and the wind is dead glass – 0 mph. That’s a rare treat. The combined energy is moderate (488). It’s a small, quiet session. Thursday morning (the 16th) will drop to 2ft, but with a 9 mph offshore from the north, it’ll be clean and workable for the beginners. The energy is lighter (252). Thursday afternoon turns cross-shore and messy with 3ft from the SE, so best to call it a half-day.
Friday and Saturday (17th & 18th) look marginal with rain showers and light onshore breezes. The swell is trying to build but the texture isn’t there. Nothing to get excited about. Sunday (19th) is also cross-onshore, with 3ft to 4ft from the SW. It’s okay for a paddle but the wind will mess with the face.
Now, here’s where it gets real. Monday the 20th morning is the standout. The swell bumps up to 7ft from the SSW with a solid 14-second period, giving us a huge leap in energy to 1613. But the best part? The wind is glassy again – 3 mph from the south. This is a clean, powerful groundswell, and for a beach-and-reef setup here, that period is going to push through proper lines. At 7ft, it's getting into expert territory. Crowds can happen, but that size might thin the pack.
Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd keep the energy pumping (943 and 1229) with 5ft to 6ft SSW swell. The early glass-offs on both days are gold. Wednesday afternoon gets lumpy as the wind picks up.
The real juicy window is Friday the 24th. Both morning and afternoon are firing. We’re looking at 8ft of SSW groundswell with a 16-second period – that is a very long period and will have massive grunt. The energy readings are enormous (3370 and 3418). Morning is dead glass, afternoon is clean offshore. This is a full-blown big swell event for experienced surfers only. If you can handle 8ft clean lines, this is your day.
We roll into a solid weekend (25th and 26th) with 6ft to 10ft swell, but be warned: on Sunday the 26th morning, the swell hits 10ft with 4936 energy – that is far too big for this break. Even with glassy wind, that's a paddle-out for the truly elite only.
The final week (27th to 30th) holds onto 6ft to 8ft SSW/SW swell, with some excellent clean mornings (like the 27th afternoon with a 9 mph cross-off). The energy stays high, but the cross-shore winds on many afternoons will add some bump. There’s plenty of swell on offer, but you have to pick the glassy windows. The promising long-range stuff from the 24th is a little less certain, but the pattern looks locked in.
In short: the best waves of this outlook are Friday the 24th morning. Get it.
Rusty.
