Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let's have a look at what Mother Nature's got cooked up for us. This is a proper south-west swell window, and La Caffrine is the only spot on the radar. It's a fairly consistent beachie that's exposed to the south, and the water temp is sitting right where you'd expect for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
We kick off on Saturday the 4th with some proper glass. A solid 6ft SSW groundswell rolling in with a period of 13 seconds, and the combined energy is pumping at a strong 1124. The wind is dead calm from the NW, turning it glassy. This one's for the experienced crew though, as that size and power will be too much for beginners. Saturday afternoon sees the energy drop to a moderate 940, but it's still glassy and clean. Honestly, that Saturday session is a true standout.
Sunday the 5th is a bit of a mixed bag. The swell sticks around, but we get a cross-shore wind that'll put a bit of a wrinkle on the face. The combined energy jumps way up to 2588 on Sunday afternoon, with an 8ft SW swell, but the wind will make it a bit of a wrestle. Not the cleanest.
Moving into the week, Monday and Tuesday are a write-off for clean surfing. Strong cross-shore winds and big, messy swell. Tuesday afternoon actually sees a massive 10ft S swell with fresh energy readings of 2567, but the forecast says it's simply too big for this break. That's an expert-only, potentially dangerous situation, so give it a wide berth.
We get a second wind on Wednesday the 8th. Wind swings cross-offshore, the swell drops to a more manageable 7ft from the SSE, and the energy is still a strong 2200. Looks clean and excellent for the experienced surfer.
There's a lull of smaller, weaker swell on Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th, with mixed wind conditions. Nothing to write home about.
Then, a late-week gem appears on Saturday the 11th. A 7ft SW groundswell (14 second period) with a combined energy of 1969 and a clean, cross-off breeze. This is another standout window for the experienced surfer.
Sunday the 12th brings another pulse of big, powerful swell at 10ft from the SSW. The energy readings are massive at 4726, but it's again just too big for the break unless you're a pro and the tide lines up right.
Now for the real highlight: Monday the 13th of July. The wind drops to dead calm. It's glassy. We've got an 8ft SSW groundswell with a period of 14 seconds. The combined energy is cranking at 3087. This is an absolutely perfect, high-performance window for experienced surfers. The sets will have real power, and with no wind, the waves will be as clean as it gets. This is the best session on offer.
Tuesday the 14th keeps the glassy conditions but the swell drops back to a nice 7ft. Clean, powerful, and excellent for those who know what they're doing.
We get another glassy day on the 15th, with a long-period 5ft SSW groundswell (16 seconds). That long period will mean longer lulls, but the waves that come through will be well-shaped and hold up nicely. Good for the points and reefs.
The outlook gets a bit messy again from the 16th onwards with more cross-off winds and a mix of shorter period swells. There's one final jewel on the 19th of July: a glassy morning with a 4ft SW groundswell at a very long 18-second period. The energy is a solid 1938. That's a very promising, clean session to round things out, but it's a long way out, so keep your fingers crossed.
Overall, the window is small but the quality is high. Don't even think about it if you're not an experienced surfer on those bigger days. The standouts are Saturday the 4th and Monday the 13th.
Rusty.
