Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Caffrine over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s on the cards for La Caffrine.
First up, the big story is the swell. We’ve got a serious pulse of energy coming in, with combined swell energy readings well into the thousands (3281), and it’s a solid 10ft from the SW with a 15-second period. That’s a powerful groundswell, but here’s the rub – for a beginner-friendly spot like La Caffrine, that’s way too big. This is expert-only territory all Sunday morning. The wind is a light cross-on from the SW, so it’s not clean, but the real issue is the size. The water temperature is sitting at 76°, which is about average for the time of year.
By Sunday afternoon, the swell drops to 8ft, but it’s still a big, powerful SW swell (2708). The wind stays light cross-on. It’s still a big, challenging day, and the tide could be a factor. Not ideal for the average surfer.
Monday morning, the 13th, still sees a 8ft SW swell (2703), but the wind shifts to a cross-offshore from the SE at 9 mph. That cleans it up nicely, but it’s still a big wave for this spot. Only experienced surfers should be out there.
The standout in the first week is Tuesday morning, the 14th. The swell drops to a more manageable 7ft from the SSW (1921), and the wind goes glassy from the S. That’s perfect conditions. The wave quality will be excellent, but at 7ft, it’s still a big wave for beginners. This is the best session for experienced surfers looking for clean, powerful lines.
After that, the swell drops through the week, with Wednesday morning, the 15th, offering a 5ft S swell (1165) and clean cross-off winds. Good, solid size for a competent surfer, but not a standout.
The following week, from the 20th onwards, we see a massive spike in energy. Monday the 20th has a 8ft SSW swell (3976), but it’s accompanied by 16 mph cross-shore winds, creating a messy, choppy surface. That’s a kite-surfing setup, not a paddle-surfing one.
The real standout for the second week, and the best on offer overall, is Monday the 27th. The swell is 8ft from the SSW (3468), with a very long 18-second period. That’s a deep, powerful groundswell, and the wind is a clean cross-off from the SE at 12 mph. This is a massive, perfectly groomed swell, but it’s strictly for experts. The long period means it will be bowling at a beach break, so it’s a heavy, powerful wave. For the right crew, this is the session of the month.
There are no great options for beginners in this 16-day window. The consistent theme is that the swell is too big for the majority of the period, or the wind is not favorable. The best clean windows are for experienced surfers only.
Rusty.
