Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break it down.
So, La Caffrine is the only game in town, and the first few days are a real struggle. The swell is pumping, but the wind is cross-shore, making it a messy, choppy sesh. The combined swell energy is high (1867) on Sunday morning, but the wind is just trashing it. Monday is even worse with a fresh breeze and lumpy conditions. Not worth paddling out.
Things start to clean up on Tuesday, 7th July. The wind goes cross-offshore, and the swell is solid. By afternoon, the swell is 10ft from the south, but that’s a big, powerful wave – only for the experts. The wind is good, but the size is serious.
The real standout, the one to circle on the calendar, is Wednesday morning, 9th July. Glassy conditions, a light offshore from the northwest, and a 4ft swell from the SSE with a 10-second period. The energy is moderate (514), but the conditions are "expect very good surf conditions." It’s clean, it’s fun, and the crowds are only "sometimes" there. That’s the session.
Saturday morning, 11th July, is also a cracker. A 6ft swell from the SW with a long 15-second period, and again, glassy conditions. The energy is strong (1706), and the long period means proper groundswell with good shape and power. This one’s for the experienced crew.
In the second week, Thursday morning, 16th July, is glassy with a 5ft SSW swell, good for a fun session. But the real beast is Friday morning, 17th July – glassy, 8ft from the ESE, and a 9-second period. The energy is high (1581), and it’s "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." That’s a big, clean wave.
The surf drops off after the 18th, with small, weak swells. The last decent call is Monday morning, 20th July, with a tiny 3ft glassy swell, just for the longboarders.
Best bets: the 9th for clean fun, the 11th for power, and the 17th for the experts.
Rusty.
