Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Caffrine over the next 16 days.

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.

We’ve got a really promising run of surf coming up at La Caffrine. The water temp is sitting at 76°, which is about a degree and a half warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s got that nice, slightly above-average feel to it. The first few days are the real standouts, so let’s get into it.

Friday 10th July is looking glassy as hell. We’ve got a clean 4ft SW groundswell with a long 15-second period, and the wind is dead calm. The energy is solid, sitting at 627, and it’s going to be clean all day. This is a proper beginner-friendly wave – small, clean, and easy. Not the biggest, but the quality is there for some fun, uncrowded laps.

Saturday 11th sees the swell jump up to 6ft by morning, and 7ft by the afternoon. The period is still a nice 15 seconds, but the wind goes cross-on and then onshore, so the surface is going to get a bit lumpy. Still a decent size for a stronger paddle, but the wind is a letdown. The energy is cranking up though, hitting 1495 in the morning.

Sunday 12th is the first big spike. The swell is 10ft in the morning, but that’s too big for this break – it’s for experts only. The wind is howling from the SE at 15-19 mph, but it’s cross-off, so it’ll be clean. The energy is massive at 3609. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on a beach break. The afternoon drops to 8ft, still big, but the wind is still strong.

Monday 13th is a beauty. The swell drops back to 7ft, still a solid size, but the wind is light and cross-off, keeping it clean. The energy is 2426. This is excellent for experienced surfers who can handle a proper wall. The wind stays light all day, and the quality is high.

Tuesday 14th, the swell backs off to 6ft, but the wind goes glassy from the ESE. Perfect conditions. The energy is 1149, and the water is still clean. This is a great morning for a long, easy session on a solid SSW groundswell.

Wednesday 15th starts glassy with a 4ft SSW swell, but the afternoon turns into a mess. The wind swings onshore and the swell direction shifts to ESE with a short 9-second period, which is junk. Avoid the afternoon.

From Thursday 16th through to Monday 20th, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The swell drops right down to 2ft to 4ft, mostly small and weak, with periods dropping to 8 seconds at times. The energy is low, between 200 and 500. There are some glassy mornings, but the waves are just too small to get excited about. A few days of flat spells in there.

Now, here’s the real standout. Tuesday 21st July. The morning brings a 6ft SW groundswell with a massive 18-second period. The energy is 2466, and the wind is glassy. This is a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be powerful and clean, but it might break a bit too straight at the beach. It’s a point break and reef kind of swell. For La Caffrine, it’s going to be a clean, powerful wave for experienced surfers.

The absolute highlight of the whole period is Thursday 23rd July. The afternoon session is a cracker. We’ve got a 6ft SSW groundswell with an enormous 22-second period – that’s very long period, meaning heaps of energy and good shape. The energy is 4793, and the wind is a clean cross-off. This is the best wave of the forecast. It’s not too big, super clean, and the quality is top-notch. It’s a bit far out, so take it with a grain of salt, but it looks bloody good.

Friday 24th July goes huge again – 12ft in the morning. That’s too big for this spot. Experts only. The energy is 6631, massive power. The wind is glassy in the morning, so it’ll be clean, but it’s a beast. The afternoon is still 10ft. Not for the faint-hearted.

The last few days, the swell drops back to 6ft to 7ft, with some cross-shore winds. It’s still surfable, but nothing beats that Thursday 23rd.

So, the best on offer is Thursday 23rd July afternoon at La Caffrine, with a solid 6ft SSW groundswell, clean cross-off wind, and that incredible 22-second period. The Tuesday 21st morning is a close second for the glassy, long-period stuff. Get on it.

Rusty.
