Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
First off, we’ve got a solid window of swell working its way into La Caffrine over the next week, starting Tuesday the 7th. Right out of the gate, there’s some size but the wind is a problem. The water temp here is sitting at 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Tuesday morning the 7th is a bit of a write-off for a good paddle. There’s a 6ft S swell, but with that 19 mph cross-off wind from the SE, it’s going to be messy and the wave energy is strong (1609). That afternoon though, things get wild – the swell jumps to a solid 10ft from the south, which is honestly too big for this spot. The energy is massive (2756), but it’s really only for the kamikaze crew, if anyone.
Now, Wednesday the 8th morning is where it gets interesting. The swell drops back to 7ft from the south, and the wind goes glassy at 3 mph from the ESE. That’s a proper clean morning for experienced surfers. The energy is still strong (1827), and the period is 11 seconds – a nice groundswell. Wednesday afternoon holds at 8ft from the ESE with a shorter 8-second period, but still clean.
Thursday the 9th is a beauty. Morning has 5ft from the SSE with absolutely zero wind – glassy as a mirror. The energy is moderate (510), but it’ll be clean and fun. Thursday afternoon keeps the glassy theme with a 6ft ESE swell at 9 seconds.
Friday the 10th offers something special – a long-period groundswell. Both morning and afternoon are glassy with a 4ft SW swell. This is a 15-second period in the morning, dropping to 14 seconds in the afternoon. That long period will produce some lined-up, powerful waves at this exposed break, but in the 4ft range it won’t be closing out. Energy is solid (721 and 812).
Saturday the 11th is my pick of the whole forecast. Morning and afternoon both glassy, with a 6-7ft SW swell at 15 and 14 seconds respectively. The energy is strong (1438 and 1436). This is a standout window – clean, powerful, and well-shaped for experienced surfers. The crowd factor here is listed as “sometimes,” so you might get a few others, but it’s not going to be a zoo.
Sunday the 12th takes a turn. The swell holds at 8ft from the SW with a 15-second period, but there’s moderate rain and a cross-shore wind in the morning, plus 12 mph cross-off in the afternoon. The energy is huge (3167-3418), but conditions are marginal. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle one.
Monday the 13th offers a cleaner return. Morning and afternoon are glassy again with a 6-7ft SW swell at 14 seconds. Strong energy (1736 and 1368). Another good day for experienced surfers if you missed Saturday.
After that, from Tuesday the 14th through Sunday the 19th, it’s a slow downhill slide. Swell drops to 2-5ft with winds that are mostly onshore, cross-on, or light. There’s a long gap of about six days with nothing worth getting excited about. The energy drops into the weak range (99-640). Conditions are ordinary at best.
Then we get a little pulse again on Monday the 20th. Morning sees 4ft from the SSW at a 14-second period, with a cross-off wind. Energy is moderate (632). But the afternoon builds to 5ft with a 16-second period – that’s a very long-period groundswell. However, the wind picks up to 16 mph cross-off, which puts a dent in it. Tuesday the 21st morning goes big again – 10ft from the south – but it’s too big and the wind is 22 mph. Kite-surfing territory again.
So, if you’re looking for the standout sessions, lock in Saturday the 11th for the clean, glassy, long-period SW swell, and Friday the 10th as a close second. See you out there.
