Alright, this is Rusty.
Alright, look, La Caffrine is your spot for this whole run. It’s the only game in town from the data I’ve got, but for the first week or so, it’s going to be a proper ride for those who know what they’re doing. The setup is an exposed break, so it catches everything that comes its way.
We kick off on Monday the 13th of July with a solid 8 ft SSW groundswell, period hanging around 14 seconds. That’s a proper long-period swell, so it’s going to have a lot of energy behind it – we’re talking strong wave energy (2181). The water is sitting at 76°F, which is about average for this time of year. Morning winds are glassy off the ENE, so it’s clean. This is excellent, but at that size and with that power, this is strictly for experienced surfers. The swell is coming right out of the SSW, which is the optimum direction for the break, so the lines will be lined up proper.
Tuesday the 14th is a beauty. The swell drops a touch to 6 ft from the SSW, still a nice 14-second period. The big news is the morning: glassy conditions with light NW winds. That is a major positive. Moderate wave energy (1286) but the conditions will be perfect. It’s a standout window right there for the experienced crew. Tuesday afternoon gets messy with onshore wind, so surf the morning.
Wednesday the 15th morning keeps that glassy feeling with a 4 ft SSW swell. It’s weaker, but still clean. The swell energy drops to 636. It’s a good option for a beginner if they are feeling brave, as the size is manageable. The rest of the week through to the weekend sees the swell drop and go a bit mixed. Thursday the 16th is tiny at 3 ft from the S, and the period drops off too. Not worth paddling out for. Friday the 17th morning is completely glassy with a tiny 2 ft swell but a very long 17-second period, giving it a bit more life (414 energy). It’s not going to be big, but it’ll be perfect little peelers for the log.
The real standout is next Monday, the 20th of July. We get a massive pulse from the SSW again. The morning shows 8 ft at 14 seconds, and the afternoon ramps up to a solid 10 ft at 13 seconds. This is very strong wave energy (2837 and 3115). Now, the wind is a cross-offshore breeze at 16 mph, which will keep the faces clean. But look, at 10 ft, this is only for the hardcore experts. For everyone else, it’s a no-go. Because it’s a proper beach break with that much power and a long period, it might be breaking a little too straight in some spots, but the direction is right for the break.
After that massive swell, the energy stays high but the wind picks up. From the 21st to the 23rd, we’ve got consistent 5 ft to 8 ft SSW swell, but the wind is a cross-offshore SE breeze, blowing at 9 to 19 mph. It’s clean, but it’s windy. Look at Tuesday the 21st afternoon: 19 mph cross-offshore wind with a 7 ft swell. That’s kite-surfing territory. It’s going to be choppy and tough for paddling.
Finally, the last few days of the month, from the 24th to the 28th, settle back into a solid pattern. The swell stays in the 5 ft to 8 ft range from the SSW and SW, with that long period of 14-16 seconds kicking back in. Thursday the 24th afternoon and Saturday the 25th morning are the highlights – clean conditions with a light breeze and excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers. The energy is strong again (1582 and 1293). This is a solid run to end the period, but that Monday the 20th is the big one, if you can handle it.
Rusty.
