The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s cooking at La Caffrine.
First up, the water temp is sittin’ about average for this time of year, so no weird surprises. The week starts off a bit meh, but patience is gonna pay off. Thursday the 16th has a small clean morning wave – 2ft of south swell (10 seconds period) with a light cross-off breeze, giving you smooth lines. The combined energy is moderate (279). It’s not huge, but it’s rideable for a beginner.
Friday the 17th picks up a bit more size, 3ft to 4ft, but the wind turns cross-on, and the period is long (16-17 seconds), which means the waves might be a bit fat and straight at this spot. The energy is strong (569-872), but it’s a bit messy.
Saturday the 18th stays small and cross-on, not worth your time.
Now, Sunday the 19th morning is a real turn-up: clean 3ft swell from the southwest, 16 seconds, with a light cross-off from the southeast. The water is glassy, the energy is pumping (572), and the set waves will have some real push. That’s a good session.
But the real standout? Monday the 20th. No wind at all in the morning, glassy as a mirror, with 6ft of SSW groundswell at 14 seconds. The energy is cracking (1446). That’s a solid, powerful wave for experienced surfers. The afternoon is even bigger at 7ft, still glassy. This is the best of the first week.
Tuesday the 21st morning is another glassy jewel – 5ft, 12 seconds, clean as. The energy is strong (891). A great follow-up.
Wednesday the 22nd is a stunner again: glassy in the morning, 7ft of SSW swell at 12 seconds, energy is massive (1815). The afternoon stays glassy with 7ft. This is high-quality, powerful surf.
Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th keep the run going with glassy mornings and solid 5ft to 6ft waves, excellent energy. The 24th morning has a very long 16-second period, which will really unload on the reef – expect some long, powerful lines.
Saturday the 25th stays glassy all day, 4ft to 5ft, very clean.
Now, a word on Sunday the 26th: the swell jumps to 10ft in the morning. That’s way too big for this break – it’s a warning for big-wave chargers only. The energy is insane (3756). The afternoon drops to 8ft, but still expert territory.
Monday the 27th still has 7ft, but the wind is cross-off, so it’s clean and powerful for experienced surfers.
The real gem of the whole outlook? Thursday the 30th. Glassy calm, 8ft of SSW groundswell, 17-second period. The energy is massive (4096). That’s a proper, world-class set-up for experts. The afternoon is glassy too, 8ft, 16 seconds. If you can handle it, that’s the day.
The 31st has a smaller 7ft but the wind turns cross-shore, so it’s a bit less clean.
There’s a gap at the start of the period, but overall, this is a solid run of surf. The 20th, 22nd, and 30th are the true standouts – glassy, powerful, and clean. Crowds are sometimes here, so you might have some company on the best days.
Rusty.
