The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for La Caffrine over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but things are looking up. The water’s sitting at 76°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real action kicks off on Tuesday the 14th. It’s a bit of a messy start, with a cross-onshore breeze and a stormy feel in the air. The swell is pushing 5ft from the SSW, but it’s a bit of a lumpy one. The energy is strong, coming in at 1251, but the conditions are only marginal. It’s a pass for me.
Wednesday the 15th is a different story. The morning is looking glassy with a light SW wind, and the swell drops to a clean 4ft from the SSW. It’s a nice, friendly wave, perfect for a beginner session. The energy is still decent at 629. The afternoon turns a bit onshore, so make the call for the early one.
Thursday the 16th offers a small, clean wave in the morning. Swell from the SE at 3ft with glassy conditions. The energy is a bit lower at 303, but it’s a good option for a longboard or a learner.
We get into a bit of a lull from Friday the 17th through to Sunday the 19th. The swell is small, around 3ft, and the wind direction is all over the shop. There are some glassy windows, like Saturday morning and Sunday morning, but the energy is low and the waves are a bit weak. Not really worth jumping out of bed for.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Monday the 20th sees a big jump in size. The morning is a cross-onshore 7ft from the SW, but the energy is pumping at 2012. The afternoon, however, is looking at a solid 10ft from the SSW. That’s a serious push of water, with energy at 3078. The wind is just a cross-shore breeze, but at this size, it’s a heavy powerful wave. This is expert territory only. It’s going to be a beast.
The rest of that week stays big. Tuesday the 21st is still up around 7ft to 8ft, with a cross-shore wind. The energy is still strong. By Wednesday the 22nd, the swell starts to ease back a bit, but the wind picks up, making it a bit choppy. Not the best.
Thursday the 23rd offers a bit of a reset. The swell drops to under 3ft in the morning, with a clean cross-offshore wind. It’s a glassy little wave, but the energy is low.
The Standout
Friday the 24th is the one to circle. The morning is looking absolutely mint. Glassy conditions, zero wind, and a solid 8ft SSW swell with a very long 17-second period. The energy is massive at 4286. This is a proper groundswell, and it’s going to be powerful and clean. The comment says it’s excellent for experienced surfers, and I agree. This is a big, beautiful, clean wave. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-shore wind, but the morning session is going to be a classic.
The weekend of the 25th and 26th stays big, with solid 8ft to 10ft SSW swell. The winds are consistently cross-offshore, keeping the faces clean, but it’s still a serious wave. The energy is strong, over 3000.
Then, Monday the 27th delivers another top-tier morning. A 8ft SW swell with a 19-second period and a light cross-offshore wind. The energy is the highest we’ve seen at 4563. This is a wave of the week contender. Clean, powerful, and long-period. Another one for the experienced crew.
The last couple of days, the 28th and 29th, see the swell drop back to a more manageable 5ft to 7ft, with some glassy morning windows. It’s a good way to wind down the run.
To sum it up, the best of the best is the morning of Friday the 24th or Monday the 27th. Both are clean, powerful, and for experienced surfers only. The Wednesday the 15th morning is the pick for the beginners.
Rusty.
