Surf Forecasts:
The Lowdown
Alright, listen up. I've had a look at the long-range picture for our coast, and it's a tough one to deliver. For the next 16 days, we are looking at a whole lot of nothing. The models are showing zero wave energy for the entire period. It's a complete blank run, which is a real kick in the teeth, but it happens here.
From the start on Wednesday the 5th, it's flat. The water temp is 73°, which is a bit chilly for this time of year, so don't be fooled by the sunshine. It'll feel cooler than usual.
We're not just flat, we're dealing with wind too. The mornings on Thursday the 6th and Saturday the 8th have a bit of cross-offshore breeze that would be nice if there were waves, but there aren't. Then the afternoons get messy with cross-shore and cross-onshore winds, gusting up to 19 mph and later 22 mph. It's all just a mess, and there's nothing for it to mess up.
The entire first week is a washout. The swell energy is reading zero the whole time. We're talking about a stretch from the 5th through the 11th with nothing. Nada. Zip.
The second week is more of the same. The wind pattern continues, with a lot of cross-shore and cross-offshore conditions. There's a glassy morning on Tuesday the 18th and another on the 20th, but it doesn't matter because there's still no swell. The combined energy is still at zero. It's like the ocean just took a holiday.
So, what's the call? There are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Not one. The only spot we'd even consider, Kumcagiz, is a sandbar that's inconsistent at the best of times, and it's not breaking at all. If you're a beginner, you aren't missing anything. If you're an expert, you're also not missing anything.
It's a blank run, plain and simple. But, keep the faith. This kind of flat spell tends not to last forever around here. Forecasts can change, and a pulse of swell can show up out of nowhere. Keep an eye on the charts, and I'll be here when it turns on.
Rusty.
