The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Fourth Beach.
We’ve got a solid run of swell coming through, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag with the wind. The real standout window is Monday morning, July 20th, where things line up beautifully. A clean 7ft SSW groundswell with a 13-second period and a light cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. That’s the one to circle. The combined energy is moderate at 1464, and it’ll be a proper session for experienced surfers. The water temp is sitting at 62°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so you won’t need a full winter suit if you’re tough enough.
Before that, Sunday the 19th has a bigger 7ft SW swell but it’s a bit more challenging with a cross-off wind that’s not quite as clean. Still worth a look if you’re keen. The 7ft on Sunday afternoon is a step down thanks to a cross-on breeze.
Monday afternoon the 20th drops off with a cross-on wind, so don’t get too excited. Tuesday the 21st is a write-off with choppy, poor conditions. Wednesday the 22nd sees a hefty 10ft SSW swell, but that’s only for experts and the wind is cross-on, creating chop. Thursday morning the 23rd is another clean highlight: an 8ft SSW swell with a 14-second period and a light cross-offshore from the NE. Combined energy hits 2480, so it’s got some punch. That’s your second standout.
Friday the 24th is a beauty for the morning and afternoon – offshore winds from the N, clean 5ft SSW swell. That’s a great session for all levels, not too big, not too small. The weekend after that, the 25th and 26th, is a bit of a letdown with smaller swell and fresh winds, though Saturday afternoon the 25th has a clean 4ft SW swell that’s worth a quick paddle.
July 27th gets messy with rain and strong cross-shore winds, only for the hardcore. The 28th and 29th are average at best, with a few clean windows on the 29th morning with a 6ft SSW swell and light offshore. The 30th is tiny, and the 31st is choppy and lumpy.
Then we hit the first of August, and hold onto your board. August 1st and 2nd are pumping with 13ft to 15ft SW and SSW swells and very long periods around 16-17 seconds. The combined energy is massive – 7668 and 10400 – but it’s too big for Fourth Beach. Glassy conditions on the morning of the 2nd, but it’s a beast only for absolute experts. For everyone else, it’s a spectator day.
Rusty out.
