Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into what the next couple of weeks are shaping up like for Fourth Beach.
The first real action kicks off Monday the 6th with a long-period SSW groundswell averaging 5 feet, offering up very clean surf thanks to a light offshore N wind. The water’s sitting at 62°, which is about average for this time of year. This is a solid, classic start—clean lines, good energy. The combined swell energy is moderate (974), but that 15-second period means the sets will have some proper push. Tuesday the 7th looks like the standout, with a strong 10-foot SSW groundswell and clean, offshore NNE winds. The energy jumps right up (4383) and those sets will be packing a serious punch. This is advanced territory only; beginners should sit this one out.
The good, clean runs continue into Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th, with the swell easing a bit but the wind staying light and favorable. By Friday the 10th, the wind starts to ruin things with a fresh cross-shore making it lumpy, and the swell drops off. Saturday the 11th gets ugly: a massive 15-foot SSW swell and strong cross-onshore winds make it a messy, blown-out mess. Not one for the paddle surfer. Sunday the 12th is still huge with a 12-foot swell, but the cross-onshore wind keeps it choppy.
That Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th see the swell back down to a more manageable size, and with lighter winds, things clean up again. The long-period energy is still there, giving good shape for the experienced crew. Wednesday the 15th is another clean day, with a 7-foot SSW swell and NNE offshore winds—gentle offshore and clean conditions. By Thursday the 16th, a fresh north wind picks up but stays offshore, so the lines will be clean even if the swell drops to 4 feet.
The second week gets wild. From Friday the 17th through to Tuesday the 21st of July, the swell is consistently huge, often over 13 feet, with very high combined energy readings (over 5000 and sometimes over 15000). The wind is a problem too, often strong offshore or strong cross-shore. This is big, powerful, and mostly unruly—definitely not for beginners, and only for the most experienced if the winds line up. The period from the 19th to the 20th looks particularly big and intimidating.
Overall, the real sweet spot is Monday the 6th through Wednesday the 8th, with Tuesday the 7th being the absolute pick of the bunch: solid 10-foot SSW with perfect offshore wind. A close second is Wednesday the 15th for a cleaner, more manageable session if you're looking for a slightly less hectic paddle.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
