Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fourth Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, looking at the next 16 days for Fourth Beach. It’s a wild one.
We’ve got a huge, persistent run of SSW swell coming in, but the problem is the size. For days on end, the waves will be well over 8 feet, which is only for the hardcore crew, and even then, the wind and conditions aren't playing ball most of the time.
The good news is right in the middle of the run.
Monday 13th is a no-go. Solid 10ft swell from the SSW with a super-long 17-second period, but the model says it’s just too big for the break. The energy is massive, and that much power on a beach break is just a closeout.
Our window opens on Tuesday 14th July. The swell drops to a cleaner 8ft from the SSW, still with a solid 15-second period. Now, 8ft is still big – expert territory. But check the morning: clear skies, a light 6 mph offshore breeze from the NNW. That is *perfect*. Clean, lined-up waves. The energy is still strong, but that offshore wind will hold the faces up. This is the standout of the whole forecast. The water is sitting at 62°, which is dead average for this time of year.
Wednesday 15th keeps the quality going. Morning session with a 6ft SSW swell and a fresh 19 mph offshore wind will be glassy clean. The afternoon drops to a dreamy 4ft, but look at the period – 18 seconds! That’s a very long-period groundswell. For a beach break, that long period can make the waves a bit too straight. But with a gentle offshore wind, they'll be fun and user-friendly.
Thursday 16th is another solid day. A 7ft SSW swell with strong offshore winds in the morning – big and clean for the experts. Afternoon is a touch smaller at 7ft, with a moderate offshore breeze, excellent for advanced surfers.
After that, it gets sketchy. We get a few days of smaller, cleaner swell (4ft to 7ft) from Friday 17th through Monday 20th, but the wind swings cross-off or onshore, and the energy drops hard. The wave quality is just marginal.
Then, from Tuesday 21st all the way to the end (Sunday 27th), it’s back to the big, messy stuff. Swells from 4ft to 10ft, but all with strong onshore or cross-onshore winds. Friday 24th sees a 10ft swell with a fresh onshore wind – that’s just a lumpy, choppy mess. This setup starts looking a lot better for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, my call is simple: Tuesday 14th morning is your best bet – big, clean, and powerful for those who can handle it. Wednesday and Thursday are also good if you can get out. After that, the door slams shut.
Stay sharp.
Rusty.
