Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fourth Beach over the next 16 days.

Alright, let’s paddle out and see what’s on the table for Fourth Beach over the next few weeks. I’m looking at the whole run, and honestly, this one’s a bit of a mixed bag—sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s a washout.

First up, the water’s sitting at 61.9°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing wild on the temperature front. The real story is the swell. For the first few days, we’ve got some serious energy rolling in. On Wednesday afternoon, the 8th of July, we’re looking at a 5.9ft SSW swell with a very long 15-second period—that’s pure groundswell. That kind of period and direction at a spot like Fourth Beach that’s fairly exposed to the SW and loves a SW direction means it’s going to be powerful. The combined energy is strong at 2099, so there’s plenty of push. The wind is a light cross-off from the NE, so the surface is clean. However, this is an advanced spot and the size is already at 5.9ft, which is pushing it for anyone who’s not experienced. It’s a good window for the crew who know what they’re doing.

Thursday morning the 9th is a bit of a write-off with a marginal call and a cross-off wind. But hold on—Thursday afternoon looks prime. The swell drops a touch to 5.2ft from the SW, period still a solid 13 seconds, and the wind goes glassy from the WSW. That’s a gorgeous call for clean, lined-up waves. Energy is moderate (891), but with glass-off conditions, this will be the standout session of the first few days.

Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th turn ugly. We’ve got strong cross-onshore winds, lumpy choppy conditions, and the swell direction is being hammered by the wind. Friday afternoon pushes up to 6.6ft SW but it’s blown out. Saturday morning hits 7.2ft SSW, but with 12.4 mph cross-onshore, it’s a mess. The combined energy is still high (1265, 1804), but the quality is shot. For paddle surfing, you’re better off waiting.

Sunday the 12th brings a new pulse—a monster 8.2ft SSW swell with a 17-second period on Sunday afternoon. The combined energy jumps to 3970, and it’s a cross-shore breeze, so the shape might be a bit wonky. This is getting into expert-only territory size-wise. Monday the 13th goes even bigger: 11.5ft SSW with 17-second period in the morning (6995 energy!) and the same in the afternoon. The data says the swell is too big for this break. That’s a red flag unless you’re a big-wave specialist. The wind is cross-shore with a chop, so it’s not clean enough to offset the size.

Tuesday the 14th is a different story. Morning has offshore NNW wind at 6.2 mph, 8.2ft SSW swell, 15-second period, and excellent conditions for experienced surfers. The energy is still strong at 3118, but the offshore wind will clean it up nicely. This is another standout window for advanced paddlers. The afternoon goes cross-shore but is still okay.

Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th see the swell back down to a more manageable 4.9–6.9ft, with consistent offshore winds from the north. Wednesday morning is 5.6ft SSW with a moderate offshore (15.5 mph from the N) and clean conditions. Thursday afternoon is golden: 6.9ft SSW, 15-second period, gentle offshore from the NNE, and excellent conditions. That’s a proper session for the advanced crew.

Friday the 17th is a bit gusty in the morning with a strong offshore (18.6 mph), but the afternoon settles to a gentle offshore and good waves. The energy is moderate and the quality is there.

Then from Saturday the 18th through to the end of the window, the wind gets ugly again. Saturday has a fresh cross-off breeze, which is okay, but Sunday the 19th afternoon goes near gale from the WSW with a 9.8ft SW swell and 21-second period. The combined energy rockets to 7110, but the wind is cross-onshore and the whole thing is blown out. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st are more of the same—strong onshore winds, 9.8 to 14.8ft swells, and poor conditions. This is kite-surfing territory if anything.

The very last few days, Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd, stay messy. Thursday morning the 23rd has a 9.8ft SSW swell with a 15-second period and light onshore wind, which is marginal. Thursday afternoon is 11.5ft and too big for the break, even with light wind.

So, looking at the whole 16-day

Light rain (total 2mm), mostly falling on Fri morning. Very mild (max 18°C on Thu afternoon, min 13°C on Sat morning). Winds increasing (light winds from the SSW on Thu afternoon, fresh winds from the SW by Fri afternoon).
