G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks at Fourth Beach.

Right from the start, Monday the 13th of July we get a solid blast of south-southwest groundswell – the swell is running a good 12 ft with a long 17-second period, and the combined energy is pumping at 7826. The water temp is about 62°, normal for this time of year. That Monday is only for big-wave hunters – the size is well over 8 ft, so beginners should stay on the sand. The wind is a moderate cross-shore, making it a bit lumpy, but if you’re experienced and hungry, there’ll be some big, raw rides.

Now, Tuesday the 14th of July is the standout. The swell drops to a more manageable 8 ft, still from the SSW with a solid 15-second period, but the real story is the wind. Tuesday morning brings a light offshore from the NNW with clear skies, and the energy is still strong at 3118. It’s clean, powerful, and set up for experienced surfers to have a proper session. This is the pick of the whole window.

Wednesday the 15th of July stays clean – morning offshore wind at 18 mph, swell at 6 ft, energy down to 1442. The afternoon turns glassy with light offshore breezes and swell at 6 ft. Fun, clean waves for those who don’t mind a smaller size.

Thursday the 16th of July sees another pulse – 7 ft swell with a 16-second period and moderate offshore wind keeping it tidy. Energy is moderate at around 1880-1930. Not a standout, but a solid day for experienced surfers wanting clean waves without the massive size.

From Friday the 17th of July, the swell fades and quality gets patchy. Friday is small – around 4-4 ft – with strong offshore wind (18 mph). Clean but weak energy (under 600). Saturday the 18th of July jumps back to 8-10 ft from the SW with a 13-second period, cross-off wind, energy up to 5750 in the afternoon. Clean but raw.

Sunday the 19th of July offers a clean morning with a 8 ft SSW swell and 16-second period, light cross-off wind, energy at 2701. Another window for experienced crew. The afternoon turns onshore and light, so quality drops.

Monday the 20th of July gives us 8 ft SSW swell with 12-second period, clean under a moderate offshore, energy at 1848. Decent if you time it right.

Then a rough patch: Tuesday the 21st of July is a write-off – strong cross-winds, lumpy. Wednesday the 22nd of July is cleaner but small (4-6 ft) with a very long 21-second period in the afternoon – that long period makes it tricky at a beach break.

Thursday the 23rd of July brings another big pulse: 10-12 ft SSW swell with 16-second period, clean under cross-off winds, energy strong at 5402-6340. One for experts only.

From Friday the 24th of July through Sunday the 26th of July, strong cross-onshore winds and lumpy seas with 6-8 ft swell – poor quality. Not worth it.

Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th of July see a return to cleaner conditions – 6-8 ft SSW swells, clean cross-off winds, moderate energy up to 3945. Marginal but possible for experienced surfers.

The standout of the whole 16 days is Tuesday the 14th of July – 8 ft SSW groundswell, light offshore wind, clean conditions, strong energy. Circle that one.

Rusty.
