The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, this time in feet and miles per hour for the crew that thinks in old school.
Let’s talk Fourth Beach. There’s a big, long-period SSW groundswell on the way. The combined energy is pumping at 2488 (moderate to strong energy) right from Tuesday morning. Water temp is 16.4°, right around average for the season. But the wind is a cross-on mess for the first couple of days, so Tuesday and Wednesday are a wash. Lumpy, choppy, not worth paddling out.
Thursday morning the 20th shows some light. The swell is 8.2ft from the SW, period still a solid 16 seconds, and the wind goes light cross. The energy is strong at 3604. It’s still a bit marginal, but it’s cleaning up. Then Friday the 21st is a real standout. The swell hits 9.8ft from the SSW, with a 16-second period, and the wind is glassy – dead calm. The energy is roaring at 3650 (strong energy). This is expert-level stuff. At nearly 10ft, it’s only for the skilled.
Saturday the 22nd is another gem. The swell drops to 6.6ft from the SSW, but the wind goes offshore from the N. Clean, smooth lines, and the energy is still strong at 2884. That’s the best of the first week – powerful but a little more manageable.
Sunday the 23rd the quality drops fast. Onshore wind, the swell fades, and the energy falls to 1334 (moderate energy). There’s a long gap of poor conditions through the 24th and 25th, with a massive 11.5ft mess of wind-chop on the 25th and 26th. The energy on the 26th hits 8734 (very strong energy), but the wind is cross and it’s way too big for this break. Kite surfers might have a field day, but for paddle surfing, it’s a hard pass.
Things turn around around the 1st of September. Tuesday morning the 1st has clean 4.6ft swell from the SW with a light cross-off breeze. The energy is moderate at 1005, but the conditions are very good. Then Wednesday the 2nd sees a spike to 11.5ft from the SSW, but this time with offshore wind from the NNW. That’s a clean, powerful setup, but only for experts. The period is shorter at 9 seconds, so it’s a bit more of a wind swell, but the offshore wind will hold it up nicely.
If I’m calling the standouts, it’s Friday the 21st for that glassy, massive groundswell, and Saturday the 22nd for the clean offshore conditions with plenty of power. The 1st of September is also a solid bet for a smaller, cleaner session.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Very mild (max 17°C on Wed afternoon, min 11°C on Tue night). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the WSW on Tue morning, calm by Thu night). | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryLight rain (total 2mm), mostly falling on Sun morning. Warm (max 21°C on Sat afternoon, min 13°C on Fri morning). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
