Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Rusty here, checking in on the swell window for Fourth Beach. Right now, it’s a bit of a slow start, but there’s some real promise on the horizon if you’re patient.
The first few days are messy, but the real standout hits us on Tuesday, July 7th. That morning, Fourth Beach is looking absolutely prime for the experienced crew. We’ve got a solid 8ft SSW groundswell rolling in with a 17-second period, pumping a massive 4001 combined wave energy. The wind is a gentle offshore breeze from the NE, keeping things clean. This is the kind of day where you paddle out and feel the deep ocean energy; the long period means the waves will have real shape and power, and the sets will have long gaps, making it easier to get in position. This is the pick of the forecast, hands down.
Leading up to that, the weekend (July 5th) is a bit of a mixed bag. Sunday morning sees a 6ft SSW swell (1459 energy) under cloudy skies, but with a 16 mph NNE wind it’s borderline. The afternoon cleans up nicely with a light 6 mph offshore breeze and 5ft waves, but the tide might be a factor. Monday (July 6th) morning is similar with 5ft SSW swell and a light cross-offshore wind, but it gets choppy by the afternoon.
After that Tuesday peak, Wednesday (July 8th) holds clean with 6ft to 6ft SSW swell and light winds. Thursday (July 9th) starts to get tricky as the wind swings, and by Friday (July 10th) it’s pretty poor. Then we get a big pulse of size on Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th, with 11ft to 15ft SSW swell, but the wind is howling onshore from the SW at 28 mph, making it a total mess. That’s kite-surfing territory, not a paddle.
The swell settles a bit for the start of the next week (July 13th), but it’s onshore again. Then, another promising window opens on Tuesday, July 14th morning. It’s an 8ft SSW groundswell (3669 energy) with a 16-second period and a light 6 mph offshore wind from the N. That’s excellent for experienced surfers, but the size is right on the edge of being too big for beginners. Wednesday, July 15th also looks clean with 7ft to 6ft SSW swell and consistent offshore winds.
The second week gets a bit wild. There’s a huge swell for the weekend of July 19th and 20th, with 11ft SSW swell, but the wind is a problem. The Sunday morning (July 19th) has clean cross-offshore wind, but the swell is predicted to be too big for the break. The rest of that period is just blown out. So, the clear windows are the mornings of July 7th, July 14th, and July 15th.
Water temperature is sitting at 62°, which is about 0.9° cooler than average for this time of year, so a 3/2 wetsuit is the call.
That’s the picture from here. The early week next week has the magic, so get ready.
