The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break down what’s coming for Fourth Beach.
You’ve got surf coming, but you have to be smart about it. The first solid shot is Thursday morning, August 20th. Expect head-high to just overhead sets at 8 ft from the SW, with a long 16-second period. That’s a lot of power, with combined energy reading 3648 – that’s strong. Wind is light side-offshore from the WNW, so the surface should be clean. This one is for experienced hands only; it’s too big for learners. Water temperature’s around 62°, which is pretty normal for the time of year.
Friday morning, August 21st, is the day to circle. The swell stays at 8 ft from the SSW, still a long 15-second period, but the wind goes glassy – dead calm from the ENE. Combined energy is still strong at 3384. If you can get out early, you’re looking at the best conditions of the whole run. Crowds are sometimes a factor, so expect some company if it’s looking this clean.
Saturday morning the 22nd offers another good option with a moderate offshore wind from the north, and the swell backs off to 7 ft (SSW) with energy still high at 2968. Plenty of power there.
Things fall apart from Sunday into Monday with onshore winds and rain – choppy and not worth the paddle. Tuesday morning the 25th has a clean-ish offshore but the swell drops to 5 ft and energy tanks to 727 – weak.
Then there’s a gap of poor to average conditions. But take note of Sunday morning, August 30th. A new pulse arrives – only 4 ft, but the period is very long at 20 seconds, with an offshore wind from the north. The combined energy is moderate at 1932. That’s a sneaky clean session for a longboard, especially if you can find a point or reef that grabs those long lines.
Into early September, Tuesday the 1st afternoon looks brilliant again. 5 ft of SSW swell, 16 seconds, with a light offshore from the north and “slight air” wind – basically glassy. Energy is moderate at 1923. That’s a top-quality call for experienced surfers.
Finally, Thursday morning, September 3rd: 6 ft of SW swell, 14 seconds, clean with a gentle offshore from the NNW. A solid early call before the wind shifts.
Bottom line: the absolute standout is Friday morning, August 21st – glassy, solid 8 ft swell, strong energy, and clean. The late Sunday the 30th is a promising, more mellow wildcard if the long period holds.
