The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.

We've got a solid run of surf coming up at Fishermans Point, a reef and point break that's a go-to for beginners. The water is sitting at 86° which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so it's a comfortable start.

The overall pattern is looking good. The first week is all about that consistent, clean SSW swell. Monday morning, July 13th, kicks us off with a glassy 3ft SSW swell, period 13 seconds, and combined energy of 431. That's a moderate wave energy, and with the 3 mph NE wind making it glassy, it's going to be a beautiful, clean wave. The standout for the early part of the week is Tuesday morning, July 14th. It's smaller at 2ft, but the wind is glassy from the ENE, and the swell direction is a perfect match for the optimum. It will be a dream for a longboard or a funboard. The energy is a moderate 331, but the quality of the wave will be top-notch.

The afternoons are a different story. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons, the wind swings onshore, making for poor surf conditions. It's a classic morning-glory pattern, so get your sessions in early.

We have a gap of several days where the afternoons are poor, but the mornings remain consistently good. Wednesday morning, July 15th, is another glassy morning with 3ft SSW swell. Thursday morning, July 16th, brings a 2ft SSW swell with a very long 16-second period, which is a proper groundswell. The energy is moderate at 426. This long period will make the point break work its magic, creating long, peeling lines. Friday morning, July 17th, is clean with a 3ft SSW swell and a 14-second period. Saturday morning, July 18th, is clean again with 3ft SSW swell.

Sunday morning, July 19th, is a glassy 2ft swell with a 19-second period. That's a very long period swell, which can make the waves at a beach break break too straight, but at a point break like Fishermans Point, it's a dream.

Now, the real standout in the whole 16-day window is the morning of Monday, July 27th. We have a 4ft SW swell with an 18-second period. The wind is dead calm, making it glassy. The combined energy is a strong 781. This is the best swell size and energy of the entire period, with perfect conditions. It's a bit over the 5ft mark, so it might be a touch big for true beginners, but it's still a fantastic wave for anyone with a bit of experience. It's a very promising session, but it's a long way out, so keep an eye on the forecast.

On Tuesday, July 28th, morning is also a standout with a 3ft SW swell, 16-second period, and glassy wind. The energy is a strong 638. It's a great follow-up to the Monday session.

The period from Friday, July 24th, through to Sunday, July 26th, has some interesting energy. Saturday morning, July 25th, has a very long 21-second period SSW swell, with a strong energy of 513, but the wind is cross-shore, which could be a bit messy. The absolute best of the bunch is Monday morning, July 27th.

Crowds at Fishermans Point are a possibility, as it's a spot that can get busy, especially when the conditions are this good. But with the consistent quality and the beginner-friendly nature, it's a great spot to be.

Rusty.
