Hey everyone, Rusty here. Let's get into what Ahtopol has for us.
I'm going to level with you – it's a real bummer of a forecast. We're looking at a full 16-day stretch where the ocean is basically a lake. It starts off flat on the 13th of July, and there's no sign of a single wave for days and days. The combined wave energy is registering at 0 (zero) the whole time – that's as flat as it gets.
The water temp is around 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Feels nice for a dip, but useless for surfing.
With absolutely zero swell on the cards, I can't in good conscience recommend a single session. Ahtopol is a point break that wants an easterly swell, but without any swell, it's just a scenic lookout. The wind does go glassy on the morning of Monday, July 20th, and again on Sunday, July 26th – those would be magic conditions if there was a wave to be had. But there isn't.
A total blank run like this is a bit unusual for the area. It's one of those stretches where the ocean just goes to sleep. It doesn't usually stay this poor for this long, and the forecasts can always change, so keep an eye out.
