Surf Forecasts:
The Lowdown
Aye, folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s a rough stretch for Ahtopol. The finder’s got nothing for us – zero surf recommendations across the entire 16-day window. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s a reality check for this area. The smart money says we’re looking at a flat spell for a while; it’s not unusual for the region to go this quiet, so don’t let it get you down too much. The forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
The first potential surf we’d see would be from the 31st of August onwards, but right through till the 15th of September, every single day shows “poor surf conditions” and a score of zero. The combined swell energy reading is at 0 (weak) for the whole period. There’s simply no swell to speak of. The water temperature sits at a warm 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only noteworthy thing.
For a break like Ahtopol, a point break that’s inconsistent and exposed to an easterly optimum direction, we’re seeing nothing but onshore or cross-onshore winds from the north and northeast for most of the run. There are a few brief moments of glassy conditions, like on the morning of the 2nd of September (Wednesday morning) with a 6 mph northerly wind, but without any swell to ride, it’s just a pretty lake. The same goes for the morning of the 5th and the 11th of September – glassy, but flat. This setup would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if we actually had some wind and wave energy, but we don’t.
So, the honest truth is this: leave the board at home. There’s no standout here, no day to mark on the calendar. The forecast is a blank run, and it’s a normal thing for Ahtopol to have these quiet periods. Keep an eye on the charts, though – things can change.
Rusty.
