Surf Forecasts:
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s going on for Ahtopol.
Straight up, I’ve got to be honest with you – the next 16 days look like a total flat spell. There’s no surf on offer at all. The first recommendation doesn’t come until the 16th of July, and even then, it’s just a big zero in the swell department. The whole run is a write-off.
From the 16th of July right through to the 31st of July, we’re looking at a complete blank. Every single morning and afternoon session has the same story: no swell, no energy, poor surf conditions. The combined energy of all swells directed here is a flat zero for the entire period. That’s about as weak as it gets.
The one spot we’ve got is Ahtopol itself, a point break that’s inconsistent and rarely breaks. It’s exposed to the east, and the optimum swell direction is from the east, but none of that matters when there’s simply no swell. The water temperature on the 16th of July is sitting at 77°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but you won’t be needing a wetsuit for surfing because there’s nothing to surf.
There are a few mornings here and there with glassy conditions, like the 19th and 21st of July, and even some clean cross-offshore winds toward the end of the month, but without a single wave to ride, it’s all just a tease. This is a pretty normal blank run for the area when the swell just doesn’t show up. It tends not to stay poor for long, but right now, it’s a total bust.
Rusty, signing off.
