Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim outlook for the entire 16-day window. We’re looking at a long stretch of flat, poor surf conditions with zero swell energy for most of the run. The first decent surfable ripple doesn’t show up until August 20th, and even then it’s barely a whisper.
For the first twelve days, from now through August 19th, it’s a total write-off. The combined energy is a flat zero (0) – no swell at all. The wind is mostly offshore, which would be nice if there were waves, but there aren’t. It’s clean, but flat. The water temp is sitting at 78°F which is pretty normal for this time of year.
A few tiny pulses finally show up in the final week, but they’re not worth getting excited about. On the morning of August 20th, we might see a tiny 0.7 ft south swell with a period of 4 seconds, but it’s cross-shore wind and the combined energy is a measly 1. The morning of August 21st has a bit more shape with a 1.0 ft south swell and a 5-second period, with clean offshore winds from the north, but the energy is still only 5. The best of a bad bunch looks like the morning of August 22nd: a 2 ft south swell, 5-second period, with a gentle offshore breeze from the north and a combined energy of 13. It’s tiny, but it’s the cleanest and biggest we’ll see.
For a break that’s exposed to the south like Agios Dimitros, it’s just not doing its thing. The swell energy is weak, the period is short, and the waves will be small and crumbly. This is a spot that’s inconsistent at the best of times, and this stretch proves it. There’s nothing here for the expert, and hardly anything for the beginner. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s a bit more normal than we’d like. The forecasts can always change, but right now, it’s looking like a time to wax the longboard or just take a break.
