The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s going on.

First off, Agios Dimitros is dead flat right now. From Thursday the 10th all the way through Wednesday the 16th of September, there’s zero wave energy. That’s a solid week of nothing. The water temp is 80°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—feels like a bath—but without swell, it doesn’t matter.

The first sign of life shows up on Thursday the 17th of September, but it’s barely a ripple. A tiny south swell at 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft with a period of just 6 seconds—short-period junk, really. Combined energy is a measly 1 to 3 (weak), so not worth wetting a wetsuit. Winds are light and cross-offshore, so it’s clean, but there’s zero power.

From Friday the 18th to Monday the 21st, it’s flat again. Another dry stretch.

Things perk up a bit on Tuesday the 22nd of September. A south swell comes in at 1 ft to 2 ft, period 3 to 4 seconds—still very short and weak. Combined energy hits 10 at best. Still not enough, and the wind is cross-shore, so not even glassy.

Wednesday the 23rd of September is the biggest day in the forecast. Swell from the SSW at 2 ft, period 4 seconds, combined energy of 32. That’s the best we get, but 2 ft of short-period swell on an exposed beach with inconsistent consistency just doesn’t cut it. Winds are offshore and fresh in the afternoon, so it’d be clean, but there’s no power behind it.

After that, it’s back to flat from Thursday the 24th through the end of the outlook on Friday the 25th.

Truth is, there are no standouts. Nothing is rideable. Even the best day barely tickles your ankle. For a beach-and-reef setup like this, with such weak swell and mostly clean winds, this stretch looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

Over the full 16 days, there’s only a 2-day window (the 22nd and 23rd) with any wave energy, and it’s not enough. This kind of blank run is pretty normal for the area in September.

Hang in there. Forecasts can change. For now, leave the boards at home.
Rusty.
