The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here.
Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it—this stretch from now through the first of August is a total bust for Agios Dimitros. There’s not a single decent wave on offer in the whole 16-day window. The forecast is flat as a pancake, with zero swell energy (0) for the vast majority of the period, and the few tiny pulses that show up barely register a whisper.
The whole run is a blank. You’ve got a couple of mornings, like Saturday the 25th of July morning, where a tiny 1ft S swell creeps in with a short 5-second period—that’s not enough to push a whitecap, let alone a surfer. The combined energy on that day is a measly 5 (weak). Even with clean conditions and offshore wind, there’s just nothing to ride. The same goes for Wednesday the 22nd of July morning, with a 0.7ft S swell at 3 seconds and energy of 1 (weak). It’s a tease, not a wave.
The water temperature is sitting at 79°, which is 4° warmer than usual for this time of year—that’s notably warmer than average, but it won’t help you catch a wave.
For the rest of the days, even when the wind is glassy or offshore and the sky is clear, the swell is absent. You’ll see plenty of clean, groomed flat water, but no surf. The breaks are exposed and the optimum direction is S, but that doesn’t matter when there’s no energy.
Honestly, this is a classic dry spell for the area. It tends not to stay poor for long, but right now, there’s nothing to chase. If you’re desperate for a paddle, you’re better off on a flat-water board. The kite surfers might find the steady offshore winds interesting, but for us wave riders, it’s a waiting game.
Stay patient, and check back in a few days—forecasts can change.
Rusty.
