The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the coming weeks.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are looking pretty bleak for a paddle. We've got a run of flat conditions with nothing but a few tiny, un-rideable bumps that won't even register. The water is sitting at 80°F right now, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that's about the only highlight.
The first real sign of any energy doesn't show up until the afternoon of Wednesday the 22nd of July, and it's a sad one. We're looking at a tiny 1.0ft swell from the SE with a period of just 2 seconds. That's not even a wave, it's just wind chop. The combined energy is a measly (1), and with a cross-onshore breeze, it's going to be a messy, choppy mess. Not worth a look.
After that, it's back to flatness. The next tiny pulse shows up on the afternoon of Saturday the 25th of July, a 0.7ft SE swell with a 4-second period. Combined energy is still just (2). Again, unrideable.
The rest of the forecast window is a total blank. We get a lot of offshore winds, especially from the North, which is the right direction for Agios Dimitros, but without any swell to work with, it's just a calm, flat sea. The winds get strong, too – by the afternoon of Tuesday the 28th of July, we're looking at a 34 mph offshore gale. That's not surfable, and it's more of a kite-surfing wind than anything for a paddle board.
So, the honest truth? There's nothing to get excited about here. We've got a solid 16-day stretch with no real swell on the horizon. The conditions are clean and glassy at times, but you can't surf a lake. This kind of flat run is pretty normal for the area, so don't be too disheartened. Forecasts can change, but for now, keep the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
