Alright folks, Rusty here. I'll be honest with you, the outlook for the next 16 days is a tough pill to swallow. We've got a long stretch of nothing but flat, small conditions ahead, from the end of August all the way through the first couple of weeks of September. If you're looking for a wave, you're going to be doing a lot of staring at a calm, empty ocean.
There’s no swell in the forecast at all. Zero wave energy directed our way, and the buoys aren't offering any hope. The water’s warm though, about 81° at the start of the period at Agios Dimitros. That's a good 4° warmer than usual for this time of year, which is pretty remarkable. It'll make the wait a little more bearable, but it won't create a wave for you.
The wind is mostly offshore and clean, which is usually a good sign. On the 7th of September, we even see a strong breeze out of the north (25 mph) that’s going to flatten the water and make paddling out a mission. It's a bit of a joke, really. We have “poor surf conditions” flagged for every single day, and with no swell to push in, that's the final word.
Let's take it day by day. The end of the month and early September are dead flat. The offshore winds keep the surface looking pretty, but there’s nothing for them to work with. Around the 6th and 7th, the winds get stronger, but the ocean stays empty. The second week into September is the same old story – clean and sometimes glassy, but with absolutely no swell (0.0 ft) and no energy (0), you’d be better off finding a lake.
Honestly, with this much wind and no waves, the setup here would be a lot more fun for a kite surfer than for us paddle surfers. But for us? It’s a waiting game. The silver lining is that when it’s this flat, it rarely stays bad for long. Forecasts can change, and a new groundswell can appear out of nowhere. Stay patient, keep your quiver ready, and we'll be back in the water before you know it.
