The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a quiet stretch, so we need to be honest about what we’re dealing with.
We’re starting off with a real flat spell. The entire 16-day window is a struggle for waves at Agios Dimitros. The water is sitting at a very warm 80°, which is about 5° above the norm for this time of year – that’s notably warmer than usual, so you can leave the thick wetties at home. The first real chance of anything rideable is on the morning of Thursday, 23rd July, but even then we’re looking at a tiny 0.7 ft SSW swell with a short, unenergetic period of 5 seconds. Combined energy is just 2 – that’s barely a ripple. The wind is offshore and clean (NNE at 22 mph), so the surface will be smooth, but there’s simply no push to work with.
From there, the rest of the forecast shows a whole lot of nothing. We get a glassy morning on Friday, 24th July, and some offshore breezes throughout the weekend, but the swell just never shows up. The combined energy is zero for almost every session after that first Thursday. There are literally 14 days in a row with no significant surf energy. You’ll see clean offshore winds frequently, especially from the 28th July onwards, and even some solid breezes hitting 25-28 mph, but without swell, it’s just a flat, choppy lake.
Honestly, there’s no standout session here. The only tiny blip is that Thursday morning, 23rd July, with the 0.7 ft SSW groundswell. It’s a beginner-friendly size, and the offshore wind will make it look pretty, but you’ll be scratching for anything to ride. For anyone but a longboarder or a beginner just getting foam, it’s not worth the paddle. This break is inconsistent and even when it does have a pulse, the optimum swell direction is from the South, but the S swell we get is tiny and weak.
It’s a real dry run for Agios Dimitros. Take a break, wax the board, and hope the next weather pattern brings something with a bit more bark.
Rusty.
