    The Lowdown

Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – if you’ve got your heart set on a surf this outlook period, you’re going to need a whole lot of patience. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple to speak of.

The outlook for Agios Dimitros is about as flat as it gets for the next week and a half. The wind is mostly offshore, sometimes strong, but the ocean just isn’t giving us anything to work with. The water is sitting at 79°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing happening.

From Monday 10th August right through to the morning of Tuesday 18th August, there’s literally zero swell energy. The sea is a total blank. The combined energy of all swells directed here is a flat zero (0). It’s heartbreaking. The wind is often howling out of the NNE, keeping things clean, but you can’t surf a lake.

We finally get a tiny flicker of life on the morning of Tuesday 18th August. The first and only surfable wave of the entire forecast. A tiny 0.7ft southerly swell rolls in, with a period of 4 seconds. That’s short-period, local wind chop. The combined energy of all swells is a measly 1. It’s barely a wave. The wind is light from the NNW, making it clean, but you’d be lucky to get a ride longer than a few yards. This is not a standout; it’s a last resort for a longboarder desperate for a paddle.

After that glimmer on the 18th, it dries up again completely. From Tuesday afternoon right through to the end of the forecast on Tuesday 25th August, it’s back to zero swell. The wind occasionally goes glassy, but with no waves, it’s just a pretty day for a swim.

Honestly, if you’re looking to surf, look elsewhere. This is a classic blank run for this area. The only thing keeping the hope alive is that the wind is often offshore, so when the swell finally decides to show up, it’ll be clean. But for now, the board stays in the car.

    Rusty.
