The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, and I've got to level with you – the next 16 days are looking like a total drought for waves. There’s no sugar-coating it, we’re in for a long flat spell. The only spot showing up at all is Smidstrop, a beach and point break that's usually pretty reliable, but it’s just not going to be firing.
For the first week, it's a washout. We're seeing poor surf conditions from the get-go, with small, weak, and unrideable waves. There’s no energy in the water at all. We get a little pulse on Friday, August 7th, with a swell of about 6ft from the WNW, but the period is a short 6 seconds. That's just a choppy, wind-blown mess, not the clean lines we need. The wave energy is moderate at 263, but without any period, it’s gonna be a close-out.
From there, it’s back to nothing. A couple of tiny, weak swells roll through, but they're nothing you'd get out of bed for. The conditions stay poor, with wind and chop ruining whatever small bump shows up. There’s a moment of glassy conditions, but it’s dead flat – a real tease.
Looking further out to the second week, it's the same story. A bit of a bump around the 16th, but it's small and weak. The ocean is just not cooperating. There’s no real swell direction, no power, nothing to get excited about.
Honestly, this is one of those times where the forecast is a big ol' zero. The setup here might be fun for the kite surfers, but for us paddle surfers, it’s a no-go. Keep the board in the garage, and maybe check back next week. Forecasts can change, but this looks like a proper blank run. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
Rusty.
