Playgrounds (Nusa Lembongan) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at what’s coming down the pipe for this little slice of paradise.

We’ve got a solid run of surf ahead, starting right from this Sunday and stretching all the way through to the end of the month. The core of it is a long, steady pulse of South-West groundswell, and the winds are playing ball for the most part. It’s not a one-day wonder; it’s a full-on, consistent stretch of clean conditions.

Kicking things off on Sunday the 13th, it’s game on right out of the gate. Playgrounds (Nusa Lembongan) is picking up a clean 4ft SW groundswell with a very long 18-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy, folks. The wave energy is pumping at 1504, so there’s plenty of push. The wind is a gentle offshore from the ESE, and that makes for a smooth, clean face. Water temps are pretty standard for this time of year, nothing weird going on. This is a consistent spot, a reef setup that’s beginner-friendly, but don’t let that fool you – with this period and direction, the waves will have shape and push. It's a beauty to start.

Monday the 14th keeps the quality high in the morning with more offshore wind and a consistent 5ft SW swell. The afternoon sees the wind clock around a touch, making it a cross-offshore breeze. It’s still clean, but the magic of that full offshore is gone. Tuesday the 15th is another morning standout – offshore breeze, 5ft SW swell, all very good. Wednesday the 16th holds serve with similar conditions.

We get a couple of days with a bit of a lull in the wind quality, but nothing too rough. Then Sunday the 20th and Monday the 21st light up again. The wind swings back to a perfect gentle offshore, the swell bumps up to 5ft from the SW, and the energy is solid (1350). These are days you circle on the calendar.

Now, fast-forward a bit. The end of the week starting Wednesday the 23rd sees the swell size bump up into the 7ft to 7ft range. The wind is cross-offshore, so it’s clean, but that’s getting into steeper territory for this spot. It’s still surfable, but the crowds might be a little thinner.

The real highlight, the one you're waiting for, is Friday 25th September. The morning brings a solid 8ft SW groundswell with an 18-second period. The combined wave energy is a thumping 3875 – that's strong. The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze. That is expert territory. The waves are going to be powerful, lined up, and moving fast. For the crew who can handle it, that’s going to be the session of the fortnight. It’s a long-range call, so don’t book the plane ticket just yet, but the ingredients are all there for something special.

The whole run from the 20th through to the 28th is just wave after wave of manageable, clean, good-quality surf, with that one day of serious size to keep things interesting. For the intermediate surfer, the entire second half of September is pure gold.

Keep an eye on the water temp. It's sitting right on the money for September, about average. No surprises there. This is a reef break, so the long-period swells will wrap in nicely. The consistent nature of this break means you’ll almost always have company at Playgrounds, so expect a few other heads bobbing around on the better days.
