The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again, giving you the same story in feet and degrees.

Water temp is about 61°, which is normal for the time of year, nothing wild.

Let's be straight with you, the surf is pretty quiet for a while. The best of a very average bunch looks like Thursday, August 6th. We've got a small 5ft swell from the north, but it's a short period of 8 seconds, so it won't have much grunt. The combined energy is moderate at 368, and the real winner is the wind. We're looking at a 5 km/h cross-offshore breeze, which is basically glassy. That'll keep things clean and tidy at Longsands Bay, making it a good spot for a learner session. It's a beach and point break, so it's not the most powerful, but that light wind will make it fun. The swell is from the north, but the optimum direction is from the NNE, so it's close enough. Crowds can pop up here sometimes, so keep that in mind.

The rest of the first week is a bust. Wednesday morning has a tiny 1ft with offshore wind, but it's just too small. From Friday on through the second week, it's mostly flat. There are a few days with offshore wind, but the swell is barely a ripple, never getting above 2ft. The combined energy is pathetic, mostly in the single digits or low double digits. It's a long, dry spell.

So, the one and only highlight is Thursday afternoon on August 6th. It's the only time the conditions come together for a decent paddle. Don't expect much else.

Rusty.

Light rain (total 6mm), mostly falling on Thu morning. Warm (max 24°C on Tue afternoon, min 12°C on Wed night). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the WSW on Wed night, light winds from the WNW by Thu afternoon).
