The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for the next 16 days is a bit of a tough one. The truth is, there’s really nothing to get excited about for Ikaria Mesakti Beach. This spot is for beginners, and it’s consistent, but the conditions through the whole period are a big letdown. The wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, often blowing a moderate to fresh breeze, and the combined swell energy barely scratches the moderate range. The first sniff of anything with a pulse is on Saturday afternoon, August 1st, when we see a combined energy of 162 (moderate) but the swell is only 4 ft from the NNW with a short period of 8 seconds, and the wind is onshore. It’s just messy. The water temperature is a warm 74°, which is about normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only plus.
The rest of the first week is a string of tiny, weak swells, mostly under 3 ft, with periods of 4 to 6 seconds, and onshore winds. The combined energy values are mostly in the double digits, often under 100, which is weak. There’s a gap of poor surf stretching from the start of the month right through to the middle of August. The best you can hope for is a bit of a bump on the afternoon of August 5th with 4 ft from the NNW and a period of 6 seconds, but the wind is still onshore at 12 mph, and the energy is only 90 (weak). It’s a no-go for a decent paddle.
The second week doesn’t get any better. On August 14th, Friday afternoon, there’s 4 ft of swell from the NNW with a period of 5 seconds, but it’s onshore again with a fresh breeze. The energy is 62 (weak). By the time we hit August 16th, the swell is gone, with a combined energy of 1. Honestly, for a spot that’s consistent, this is a flat spell. The continuous onshore wind and weak, short-period swell mean the setup here is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, if you can handle the chop. There are no standouts here. Not a single day is worth a recommendation.
