Dominacalito and The Point surf break:
“A pretty solid beach break, very spread out with lots of peaks. Lefts and rights, with a consistent right at the northern end of the beach.
This spot seems to work best between mid and high tide. My best sessions here have been about 1.5-2 hours before high tide; there's an hour window when it really cleans up, but at high tide it gets mushy. Don't come at low tide, or before mid tide.
I've been here for a week in season (mid July) and there was consistent 4-6 foot swell the whole time. Ideal wind conditions early AM until about 9, and afternoons usually after 4/5.
Crowds are minimal, it definitely has that local vibe and is overlooked for the big name spots the tourists find on google. So that's a plus, at least for now.
Maybe a few surf lessons/schools going on, but that seems to always be in the middle or more toward the south end of the beach.
Less traffic on the north end, but a few more rocks under the surface; never was an issue but don't ride too far in toward the beach to be safe.”

South Del Mar surf break:
“Specifically the 11th St. Reef:
Average mellow wave when it's small to medium. Can be somewhat frustrating as the waves tend to peak on the outside, only to back off as it rolls towards shore, making timing tricky for beginners.
Requires a mildly sketchy downclimb from cliffs to access, but parking on the street is very easy during dawn patrol. Relatively uncrowded and no signs of localism the few dozen times I've been there.
Excellent spot for late beginners due to the consistency, lack of crowds, and overall mildness of the wave.”

Peka Peka surf break:
“Breaks decent on a good day. Occasionally the swell and wind lines up to get nice barreling waves, and there are different bars that perform differently depending on the swell and wind. Waves are usually inconsistent but reasonably surfable.”
