Table - best surf conditions forecast for Santa Cruz Harbour over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a slow start. The first few days are looking pretty bleak, with only small, weak swell and mostly poor conditions. Don’t get your hopes up for the first week, it’s more of a waiting game. The real talk starts to happen around the middle of the second week.
For the standout of the whole period, I’m calling out Tuesday, July 21st afternoon at Santa Cruz Harbour. Now, this is a beach/jetty setup, so it’s for the advanced crew. We’re looking at a clean 3 ft swell from the SSW with a period of 15 seconds. That’s a nice long-period groundswell. The wind goes glassy, which is a huge plus. The combined energy is a solid 339 (moderate wave energy). This is your best bet for a proper session. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 60°F, with a 4°F anomaly – that’s already notable.
Before that, there’s a few other windows to keep an eye on. Sunday, July 19th morning has glassy conditions with a 2 ft SW swell (period 17s) and energy at 232 – it’s surfable but very ordinary. Then Monday, July 20th afternoon sees the swell bump up to 3 ft SW (16s period), with energy up to 445 (moderate), but the conditions are still marginal. The Tuesday morning of the 21st is also marginal with similar size.
After that Tuesday afternoon highlight, the swell stays around the 2 ft to 4 ft range for the rest of the week, but conditions are mostly onshore or cross-onshore. The water temp anomaly is only noted for the first day, so expect it to cool back to average for the time of year.
The very end of the period, from July 26th morning, brings a longer period 20-second SW swell at 2 ft but with cross-onshore wind. The energy is solid at 511 (strong wave energy), but the wind will chop it up. It’s a look, not a lock.
Rusty.
