The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this stretch ahead is looking pretty grim for a paddle. We’ve got a long, slow grind of onshore and cross-onshore winds that are going to chop up whatever slop is out there. It’s gonna be a test of patience more than anything.
The window opens with nothing on offer. For days, it’s the same story: small, weak swell getting pushed around by that ESE wind. We’re talking about a real dry spell to start, a solid stretch of days where you’d be better off doing anything else. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is about normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a thick suit while you’re staring at the flatness.
Things finally perk up a bit on the morning of Thursday, August 6th. We get a break in the wind, a light N breeze, and the sea cleans right up. It’s small, around 3ft, with an ESE swell, and the energy is still weak at 194. But it’s clean, and on a board with some volume, you’ll get a few crumbly ones. It’s not pretty, but it’s surfable. The morning of Friday the 7th is similar, with a touch less size, and then Saturday morning the 8th looks like the first real highlight. A light NE offshore wind, clean conditions, and a 3ft E swell, energy at 230. It’s still small, but it’s clean and the consistency is okay. If you’re desperate, that’s your window.
After that, it’s back to the choppy grind. We get one more chance on the morning of Thursday, August 13th. Another light NE wind, clean conditions, with a 4ft ESE swell and 206 energy. It’ll be glassy and a bit more push to it, but it’s a fleeting window before the wind swings onshore again.
Now, here’s the real talk. As we push into the second week, the swell actually starts to build. But that energy is coming with a strong onshore flow, and the wave quality goes straight out the window. By Sunday, August 16th, we’re looking at 8ft of SSE windswell, but it’s blowing 28 mph straight onshore. That’s a washing machine. It’s not a surf forecast; that’s a kite-surf forecast. The energy is very strong at 1079, but it’s a complete mess. Even the following Monday has some size at 5ft, but it’s lumpy and cross-onshore. No good.
So, to sum it up: if you’re keen, your only real windows are the mornings of August 8th and August 13th. The rest is a blown-out, choppy mess. Long-range promise is there, but it’s all wind and no shape. Keep the board in the car and the standards low.
