The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for our little stretch of coast. I’ll be straight with you – this is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window with practically nothing worth paddling out for. The ocean’s pretty flat, and what little movement there is comes with wind problems.
The first surf recommendation pops up on Monday the 17th of August, but it’s a non-starter. We’ve got a tiny 1 ft SE swell, period of just 5 seconds – that’s barely a ripple. The combined energy is a weak 12, and we’ve got a cross-onshore wind making it choppy. It’s all “poor surf conditions” from start to finish.
There’s a long stretch here, right through to the end of the month, where nothing gets a score. We see a few cleaner moments – like Tuesday the 18th of August morning with a light cross-offshore wind, or Saturday the 22nd of August morning, also clean. But the swell is just too small, mostly 1.0 ft to 2 ft, and the period is short, between 4 and 5 seconds. It’s not surfable.
The water temperature is sitting at 87°F with a 2°F anomaly, so a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Doesn’t matter much when there’s no waves.
On the 25th of August, Tuesday morning, the swell bumps up a bit to 3 ft from the SSW, period still only 5 seconds, but the combined energy jumps to 54 – that’s moderate energy but still weak. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the WSW. It’s the best-looking moment on the whole forecast, but at 3 ft and short period, it’s still poor surf. Not a standout, just the least bad option.
After that, we get into the first days of September with even less – 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft swells and onshore winds. Total write-off.
Honestly, there’s no day in this whole 16-day run that I’d call a standout. The swell never reaches even 3 ft, the period rarely cracks 5 seconds, and most of the time the wind is messy. If you’re determined to get wet, maybe paddle out on the morning of the 25th for a few knee-high lumps in clean conditions, but keep expectations on the floor. For the rest of us, it’s a good time to clean the wax off the board and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
