Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk Jordan River.
Honestly, for the next week and a half, it’s mostly flat and junk. The one session that stands out is way out there on Friday, July 17th.
Starting Thursday the 2nd, we’ve got tiny 2ft waves from the west with a short 8-second period, and the water is running at 52°F, which is a solid 6°F colder than normal for this time of year. The combined energy is weak at 91. It’s glassy, so you might find a knee-high dribbler, but that’s about it.
Thursday afternoon turns to a 1ft south-west swell with a very long 16-second period. The energy bumps up to moderate (156), but that long-period groundswell on a beach-break setup is a caveat—it can break too straight. Glassy conditions again, so for an advanced surfer it’s surfable but very ordinary.
From Friday the 3rd through the middle of the following week, it’s pretty poor. Winds are cross or cross-on from the west or west-northwest at 6 to 13 mph, and the energy stays weak to moderate but never good quality. Sunday morning the 5th has a brief window: 3ft west swell, glassy, with moderate energy (189), but still just “surfable waves.” The break can be inconsistent, so don’t count on much.
The standout is Friday morning, July 17th. That’s when we see 3ft of west swell with a 10-second period and strong energy at 373. The wind is glassy from the east-southeast at just 3 mph. That’s clean. Jordan River (Canada) is a reef and point setup, so the west swell should wrap in nicely. It’s an advanced spot and sometimes crowded, so expect company. This is your session.
Friday afternoon clouds up with a cross-onshore breeze, so the window is short.
Bottom line: lots of waiting for one good morning. Mark Friday, July 17th for dawn patrol.
Rusty.
